Chapter 22When the time came, he snuck over to the horses. Getting up on Kenna’s mare was a struggle, but he eventually did so. He settled into the saddle, picked up the reins, and kicked the horse gently. They took off down the road, toward the encampment. It took about an hour to get there, illuminated only by moonlight. He went slow to prevent the animal from tripping over uneven asphalt. The horse fought him a little, preferring a more experienced rider. The camp was just as they left it. No vehicles had moved, and the tents were once again full of people. There were, however, several men and women who stayed awake, possibly looking out for the group’s return.
