Chapter 8Embers flew around them. They rolled up the windows and covered their mouths with T-shirts. Anxiousness filled up the inside of the car. Koa was screaming, and nothing Anjea did could make the baby stop.
Cameron could see flames raging to the right, and it was beginning to catch on the other side. “EZ…” he said quietly.
“I know.”
“Maybe we should turn around,” came from Nicky.
Ezra shook his head, gripping the steering wheel tightly. “I don’t think that would help.”
“It’s all around us!” Rachel cried.
Their car raced through the shaft of fire. It flew over bumps and slammed to the ground. The chassis shook. Cameron couldn’t see more than a few feet in front of the hood. Silently, he hoped the road was straight.
