Chapter One: Alpha of the Rouges
I walked down the dimly lit hall as echoes of screams unraveled before me. This old mill echoed greatly within it's walls, but it tended to be sound proof to the outside world. It also didn't hurt that the mill was a good mile away from the walls of our home Katrice. Most of us that resided in or around this mill were those that were cast aside by our families. I was born into a true blood family. As long as my bloodline has existed we were all werewolves. I was prepared for this life. Others that joined my pack weren't so lucky. They were born into human families with no knowledge of werewolves or even a gene: a 'genetic mutation' or 'monster' if you will. They were either left for dead or kicked out with no where else to go. I had no family after The Great Wolf Hunt. They were all killed, except me. I was only 14 at the time, but I had enough training and knowledge to know what to prepare for. Some of the strays I've taken in found out when they had to transition the first time, alone.
After The Great Wolf Hunt only a handful of us survived, but the entire kingdom had been wiped out (including those in the royal family that were under suspicious). The hunt was led by humans, so it was basically a witch hunt. A lot of people were accused of being wolves that weren't, but all that died wolf or not were innocent. I no longer have sympathy for humans. I used to protect them along with my family, but now my hate for them burns to my very core.
After I was left alone I was taken under the wing of my mentor, Zax. He trained me, taught me how to fight and survive, showed me how to run a pack, and how to be a damn good wolf and Alpha. He helped me through my first transition after I turned 18. When it was my turn to take on the Alpha role, he retired but stayed around this raggedy old mill to keep an eye on our slowly growing pack. That was, until he was killed. Uncle Zax was very good and staying under the radar and even taught me how to do so. This way we wouldn't get killed by humans again. Uncle Zax, though, got too cocky. Now his head is hanging on some human's fireplace. I miss him, but I tried to warn him. Now to turn my attention to my pack that needs me.
"How's the interrogation coming along, Ryker?" I boomed as I entered out dark torture chambers. What was I kidding? This whole place is dark. I started chuckling to myself. Ryker turned to me and smiled. The screaming had stopped for a second. It had only been in that moment of silence that I realized there was actually screaming going on before hand.
"Alpha Caleb" Ryker finally spoke with amusement in his voice. Whether it was at seeing me or at his torture tactics, I'm not sure. Ryker was my Gamma, third in rank, and the best damn torturer in this pack. He wasn't at my 6' height, but he came in a close second at 5'10'. His hair was bleach blonde, almost white. His skin was light tan , but only in comparison to me. I was dark tan. I have Japanese wolf in my genes, so I was dark haired and skinned. I was blessed with light green/blue eyes, while Ryker somehow managed to get brown eyes. Best of friends with polar opposite personalities and looks. Go figure. "This wolf is part of another pack, and has been determined to breach our pack and our kingdom. He isn't talking yet, but I'm sure he will".
"If you just tell us why you're here lone wolf, we can see that you are accommodated accordingly" I coaxed our blood covered guest. We waited for what felt like minutes go by in silence. "Kill him,' I spat out. "He hasn't talked even though we drained half his body of blood, so why would he speak now?" I turned on my heels and walked back down the dimly lit and strobing hallway I entered though.
"NO! NOOOO!" the guest finally spoke, but a little to late for that now. The screams has ceased for good from that runt. Now, it's time to talk to Taylor about our little plan for tomorrow. My entire being radiated authority and Alpha. I pounced down the hall with a walk that said 'I meant business'. The hall echoed with each pounding step as I got closer to the opening for the main hall. Jorge had to be in here somewhere.
Taylor, where are you? We need to start preparing for tomorrow night. I mind linked my Beta. Mind linking is a way for us to talk, without actually speaking out loud. Taylor's voiced boomed into my mind.
I'm walking in the mill now, Alpha. I made a quick boarder run to make sure our guest was alone. All clear though. The long hallway finally opened up into the main hall big enough to fit over three thousand people. I could see only about three hundred of my rouges occupying the space to eat. It looks like my Omega's cooked up spaghetti tonight. Maybe I'll grab myself a plate while I wait on Taylor to walk in... My thoughts were interrupted when a slightly shorter than me figured stepped in front of me about 5'9". She was a beautiful shade of brown. A beautiful Indian woman with crystal blue eyes and black shinning hair that beautifully shaped her face. I can't believe I used to have a thing for this woman. We had hooked up a few times when I found her, but now she pines after me.
"Hello Taylor," my deep voice boomed in the main hallway.
"Alpha" acknowledging my presence. "Do you want to take this meeting upstairs and have a little fun before we talk about tomorrow?"
"No, I think we are find down here."
"But sexy," she stepped forward and traced the zipper on my jeans. "It's been a really stressful day, and I'm sure you could use a relaxer just as much as me." Taylor was a fierce fighter and even better Beta. I'm not sure how many women were allowed to be Beta, but in my band of misfits she fit in perfectly and was the second best. I met her after Zax took me in, and he trained us both. Her dad was a Beta before he was killed, and she was an only child. She was a great addition to our pack. I though I loved her back when I was 15, but after I turned 18 I never mated with her.
