The young man named Ullo
Huu!
A long loud and tired sigh could be heard in the air, just below the canopy of large trees, the owner was a young man who was sitting on the ground and his back leaning against one of the massive trees.
If he was standing he would be an impressive height of 6'1'', light tan skin could be seen dripping with sweat down his muscled biceps that were slightly tense as they stood out proudly due to his sleeveless dark brown leather armor made from some unknown beast.
It was not hard to notice his strong body that was sculpted like a leopard, built for speed and power, giving him a touch of savage elegance if coupled with his handsome and somewhat immature face, though there was not a hint of inexperience in his furrowed brows that arced in pain.
For at this moment his right hand was pressed and clenched on his left thigh as blood seeped between his fingers, but what was happened next was that this hand started glowing a dark purple light after which sinister look black wisps of smoke rose up from below the hand, along with a slightly noxious odor that made him wrinkle his nose slightly in irritation.
Perhaps the entire ordeal was painful, as the young man started to grit his teeth and groan slightly, but he kept his hand steady and didn't let go until all these wisps being emitted from below his hand vanished, he still kept his hand on his thigh, the purple glow faded but was soon replaced by a light green one. Then the blood that was leaking from between his fingers slowly stopped flowing.
Though he had tan skin, one could see that was he very pale as well as sweaty, sitting there panting heavily as if he had just come out from a river after swimming hundreds of laps, all for the little light show and sinister display that was bizarre if not downright eerie even if it was broad daylight.
Removing his hands from his brown pants, and looked down at the place he held before, which revealed a smooth muscled tanned piece of skin, not even a scar remained other than the evidence on the pants which was a hole with fresh bloodstains around the rim stating that there was definitely an injury there before, one couldn't find anything else to say otherwise.
After that he just sat there, to reign his breathing and replenish his energy. after what seemed like a very long time he picked himself up, ready to head home as he had taken him longer than he liked just to regain the strength for the short trackback while being strong enough against any ambush like the one that resulted in his previous injury, he can’t afford to risk another one at this moment.
Shaking the now dry black shoulder-length wild hair that glittered under the sunlight that poked through the trees, a breeze then blew by, making his light blue eyes vigilantly gaze at the thick forest vegetation due to the rustle of the foliage. Clearly, he needed to get home, as his nerves need to relax for a little while.
He then picked up his plain-looking longsword from the ground and strapped it once more to its scabbard on his waist, then a longbow along with a quiver of arrows and slung both on his back.
With everything in place he carried a creature that seemed like a rabbit, but it was as large as a middle-sized dog, with ferocious-looking buck teeth and claws as well as a body to match. Basically, it was like a bunny that overdosed on steroids and lived in a gym instead of a burrow.
Picking up his game with one hand and hanging it on his shoulder, the young man walked slowly along the familiar path between the tall trees, each reaching about 20m to 30m high and wide enough that one could be wrapped around the trunk by three to four grown men.
After a 30-minute walk that enabled him to get back to his peak, he saw in the distance a tall wooden wall, yet there was a large distance of about a kilometer between the forest and the wall that was made of the same trees around him.
They were Tambe trees and the natives of this village thought it was best to just call their home based on them, hence Tambe Village.
Not stopping his pace, about half the distance from the wall, there were small trunks and thick branches of the Tambe trees all had sharpened ends like all had been turned into sharp barriers, one could see on many of the sharp ends were dark brown and black patches, some even had completely lost their original light brown color to black. Showing that this place was never peaceful.
The wall was 50m tall and ran a diameter of 2km, it held villagers of about 500 or more people safe from the outside world. All under the leadership of a chieftain, a man selected as the wisest and strongest warrior right after his father, the previous chief.
It had a large gate made with the wood from the Tambe trees along with metal and bones of large and savage-looking skulls of strange and unknown beasts. It too had patches of dried blood and pieces of meat from the victims that wanted to break through the wall's defenses.
At this moment the gate was open like always during this time of day. However, there was a deathly silence in the air when the young man was within the range where he would usually hear the lively village. For there was no chatter of people going about their daily lives, no shouts of playful laughter from the ever blissful children nor the reprimands of parents against their ignorant offspring, even the livestock had gone silent. What's more. the guards at the watchtowers were nowhere to be seen!
Furrowing his brows, he wanted to reach for his sword, but stopped for a second and grabbed his bow and arrows instead, not before he tied his game around his waist quickly, notching the arrow he got ready for what he might face, the enemy might be in ambush or had attacked the village!
He moved and placed back against the wall swiftly, he then slowly tried to peek inside while holding his breath. For it was unknown what might lay before him, and might even find a massacred village, such occurrences not hard in this place.
But to his shock and surprise, when he finally peeked inside the village from his position, there was no damage at all, not an ounce of destruction or even open fires, but the entire community gathered directly at the center where the village would gather for occasions and meetings.
Exhaling at the fact that there were no enemies that had invaded the village, he withdrew his bow and arrow. But he got his sword this time. The guards were not around at the gate, so it is best to be careful in case of a beast charges in, for with a weapon in hand he would not be caught off guard for the second time today.
With that resolve the young man focused one once more towards the villagers and got curious at what had gotten these strange people all crowed there, in fact even the livestock was here, he saw a bunch of bird-like beasts that had been domesticated sit on thatched roofs of the huts, as well as their hatchlings sitting on the heads of their masters all focused towards the center.
As soon as he was within a closer distance, he was noticed by a few snot-nosed kids that sat on a few trees around the gathering.
"Ullo is here!"
"I see him, he is here!"
"He has returned!"
They hollered and howled to announce his presence like that species of beasts he would often encounter on his hunting trips, they always annoyed him deeply, as they made such noise that he could not hunt and often would alert the prey of his presence and they were useless to hunt for they had not good meat or fur.
Stopping not far from one tree, he looked at them for a moment, he had a deep urge to shoot them down from that tree like he had done when those beasts each time he saw them even if they were kids due to deep-seated resentment for the beast he gathered over the years since he first started hunting.
Resisting the urge, he turned and saw that the group of villagers had turned and looked at him with wide eyes and various looks that were stranger than usual. Tilting his head slightly at this bizarre performance in confusion and an arched eyebrow for a second, he then shrugged and returned his sword to his waist.
Walking forward the young man now identified as Ullo reached the person closest to him to ask what the hell was happening, but the other person just backed away swiftly pushing the ones behind them, it was clear they all wanted to avoid Ullo and like that, a path was created until a large platform ahead.
On it, he saw the chief and the elders sitting on stools above the large platform.
The chief was in the center and the rest of the elders sat in a semi-circle formation at his sides. Of course, their wives were sitting behind just below the platform.
With a straight back and his head held high, Ullo let his somewhat tired feet carry him, with how everyone seemed to behave he could perfectly deduce they wanted him up there at this moment.
"Why is he so good-looking and strong?"
"Yes, for a young kid he is always successful in his trips."
"Sigh! If only my husband was that good."
"Don't compare me to him, woman. I'll go out tomorrow and show you!"
Ullo could hear the usual whispers they always had behind him back as well as saw the regular looks they gave him, from fear, pity, jealousy, hatred, and among many others emotions such as admiration and a regular dose of lust that started once he grew up from the women, but he like always ignored everything.
What he wondered was why they wanted him up there as he wished to go home, bath and roast his meat tonight and then go to sleep, but here he was, not like they always invited him to such gatherings anyway, but he wanted to get this done so carries on with his business.
Getting on the steps of the platform he faced the elders and the chief who was a bear of a man.
This man was a giant, standing at 6'7, a thick bushy yet well-trimmed beard covered his face, his body was full of dense and powerful muscles with skin strange as it had metallic-like bronze hue, with wild black hair and green eyes he towered easily over the other elders, though they themselves the elders, had ripped bodies, yet the chief sat there, a powerful pressure waved off him calmly and shroud the others next to him.
Though there was no denying that each one gave off vibes of power and savagery along with their clothing made of animal hide and leather.
The chief looked at this young man, he seemed calm and unfazed by the pressure he and the elders were intentionally giving off. A normal person his age would have buckled already. Yet there he was like their tall and mighty tree.
‘Too bad he is not one of our soil and seeing this perhaps it really is true, he might be it after all.’
Clearing his thoughts he opened his mouth and spoke, "Ullo, you have been with us since you have been born. Your parents came from the outside into our community, we welcomed them with open arms and hearts. And in kind earned our trust and favor, you on the other hand had let them down, have led us down. Do you know what you stand accused of today?"
The chief asked calmly yet one could feel the authority behind his voice as his deep voice that was filled with power reached everyone.
Everyone then looked at the handsome young man, his back casting a long shadow, tall and wide as their proud Tambe tree, unbending even under such pressure. Shaking many of the young maidens' hearts.
Soon his lips parted and a pleasant yet slightly deep and harmonious voice rang.
"Nope."
