Blood had stopped dripping from Richard’s head wound, stemmed by a now sodden handkerchief. He was still rather unsteady on his feet but knew he had to catch up with Janus. Walking up the lane towards the farmyard, he was suddenly forced to press himself flat against a right-hand wall for safety as a police car rushed past him before turning sharply into the farmyard. It skidded to a halt and two police officers leapt out of the vehicle to be faced with a man staring at what appeared to be the dead body of his twin brother.
