MADISON'S POV
In just an hour, they had nearly torn down the wall and gates.
I looked down and saw my brother running along with the soldiers and loading arrows to be shot.
My heart skipped a beat at his actions, making me rush to him.
"Why are you here? Enter the house immediately. Can't you see people burnt to death by fireballs? You're not yet eighteen, don't risk your life for a useless venture!" I shouted, trying to wake up his dumb selfless mind.
"Let me go. The pack is in danger, and you want me to sit and do nothing, despite being a trained warrior and one of the future leaders of the pack?" He shouted angrily.
I sighed at his naivety.
"Did you see Princess Jennifer? Are you stronger than her? She's even stronger after sucking my essence, but she chose to hide in her room. Even that fool, Cain, is being heavily guarded while he gives orders. But the Alpha didn't send anyone to protect you, and you're here fighting!" I roared at him.
Just then, I saw a fireball falling in our direction.
I quickly carried him and leaped away, half-transforming into a wolf.
I landed behind a drum and saw the spot we left to catch fire.
Some people were also unlucky to have caught fire, but I don't care about saving them at the risk of my life.
I rubbed my brother's hair lovingly as I looked at him.
"You have shifted?" He asked in amazement.
"Yes, but keep it a secret. I was planning to leave here with you after I get stronger", I whispered back with a conspiratorial smile.
Just then, I heard a voice transmission from my father ordering me to appear in the Alpha studies.
"Did you hear the summons too?" My brother asked in confusion.
I quickly rushed to the study, clutching my brother's hand.
I went in and saw the Alpha, Cain, Jennifer, the Gamma's daughter and my father in the study.
There were also two maids and two guards.
I looked down and saw the hurriedly packed bags.
"Madison, they're the future of the pack. Protect them and ensure they get to safety. You must protect them at all costs. Once they survive, the pack can be rebuilt" the Alpha said to me coldly.
My father gave a bag to my brother. It contained jewelry, food, techniques and elixirs.
I can see the other three had similar loads.
The maids were carrying some clothes, food and drugs. I bet they felt lucky to be chosen among those to be smuggled out.
The alpha led us into a secret door in his office.
"Enter the secret tunnel. Cain knows the exit. Madison, remember your duty. I leave their safety in your hands. I know you're equal to the task" Alpha Micha said to me, looking as haughty as always.
My father held my hand as I turned to leave with my brother.
"This is my last order to you. Please don't fail me!" He whispered with a pleading gaze, giving my brother a pointed look.
I nodded. I will protect my brother, even without his useless orders.
"Dad, when are you guys coming?" My brother asked, holding my dad in a panic.
"We will follow you soon. We will leave in batches. You're among the first batch" he said, reassuring my brother.
But everyone knew it was a lie.
The rest will buy time for the heirs to escape.
I looked down and realized that the rest had left, making me race towards them while pushing my brother before me.
He might as well stay in the rear where I can protect him.
In a few minutes, we entered the forest and began racing out of space, trying our best not to be seen.
I heard someone move and quickly shot an arrow at the spot.
A hunting dog fell.
"Run, they're nearby" I shouted, pushing my brother along with the rest while watching our backs.
As we reached a diversion, we heard the thundering hooves of horses behind us.
"They're close. Madison, go distract them while we escape", Jennifer ordered.
I looked at her in disdain.
I had already planned how to leave my brother and abandon them.
What a joke!
"What do you mean? She's also the Beta's child? Why ask her to buy time for others? She's not the only guard here!" My brother said angrily.
"This is an order from your masters. Obey!" Cain roared at me.
Jennifer chuckled and unleashed the blood guard's curse.
I laughed at her futile attempt, making her eyes widen in confusion.
"Why's the curse not working?" She stammered, making everyone look at her in shock.
"I'm no longer a blood guard. So ask nicely and think twice" I said angrily, reaching for my brother.
But Cain beat me to it and grabbed him.
Jennifer immediately stabbed him with a black needle, making my heart jump.
"Go distract them, or I won't give him the antidote" Jennifer said coldly.
I was enraged, I felt like killing them.
"How dare you?" I roared, my eyes reddening.
I grabbed my brother and cut open my hand, hurriedly trying to absorb the poison.
But some had entered his bloodstream.
According to my speculations, if he doesn't take the antidote in five days he will die.
"Give me the antidote," I said coldly.
"If you obey the order, we will save him. He's the Beta's son after all", Cain said calmly.
"He's your future Beta, your friend. How can you watch him get hurt?" I roared at him, filled with pain and bitterness at their heartless betrayal.
I don't trust their promises, so I placed my mouth on my brother's, giving him my wolf's bead, the essence of my wolf.
It's enough to keep him healthy for a year.
I quickly whispered instructions to him, pretending to comfort him.
"Pretend to be very weak. Don't let them know you've recovered. Stay safe. With the wolf's bead, I will find you soon. Look for purple ice fruit and Wales flower. It's the antidote. Wait for me, okay?"
I looked up at them teary-eyed and saw the satisfied smirk on their faces.
"Please protect my brother" I whispered, and helped him to his feet.
"You don't need to worry about that. He's the Beta's son after all. We will all escape to safety" Cain said haughtily, still every bit his arrogant self.
I saw the coldness in my brother's eyes and signaled him to calm down.
I gave his hand to Cain, who held him with a creepy smile that made me worried.
"Leave!" I said coldly and fixed my daggers to my waist.
My double sword and arrow pouch were already on my back.
I unstrapped my bow and picked an arrow from my back, running towards the approaching army to obey the last order.
I looked back at my brother, wondering if I would see him again.
They hurriedly continued their race with only my brother looking back at me.
I looked away and ran towards the approaching soldiers.
I flew to the top of a tree and began to shoot them down with bitterness.
This was my fate.
A blood guard, meant to kill and sacrifice for others.
I jumped down into their midst and unstrapped my sword, slashing them without mercy.
But they were a formidable army.
I felt another group of soldiers approach me as I slashed again, taking two heads down.
I stared at the leader.
He was on a white horse, in white armor and helmet.
There was a bow in his hand.
I looked at it and immediately recognized it from the book about legendary weapons, Heaven's Mandate Bow.
But I can't escape, I need to remain here.
He continued fighting, sneakily changing positions and using his men as shields.
I felt an arrow fly into my back and turned gasping.
Another flew into my heart.
This was not like other arrows I have been shot with, it was burning my internal organs.
More kept raining down on me.
I rushed towards a nearby cliff trying to escape whilst killing more.
Another arrow flew into my back, making me fall to my knees.
I forced myself by leaning on my sword and turning.
Just then, I saw the man teleport before me and stab my heart with a white sword.
My vision blurred.
He stabbed my belly again with a short dagger before kicking me into the stony valley.
The last face I saw was my brother's.
Can he survive now that I'm dead?
Because I know for sure that this is the end.
