Chapter 7

He was like the Sun. He had people orbiting around him; some were so close it burned them, some were so far they were the coldest they could be because they wanted to be closer. The lucky ones were in the perfect distance to feel his warmness and live with him peacefully. In one way or another all the people that met him felt attracted to him. He was the brightest person you could ever meet. And me? Well, in his little System, I was Pluto: a strange, little cold planet that no one wanted around the Sun, but who oddly was spinning around him in circles, in the opposite direction as everyone else. And how would the Sun notice Pluto if everyone else just said to that little planet that it would never be big enough or close enough to form part of his System? “Girl you gotta get a grip on yourself. You are drooling on him,” said Freddie as we were sitting at the breakfast table with hash browns and omelettes and sandwiches. We all had the proper English breakfast here and today was the day that the Awakening was going to happen. “I am not drooling,” I said defensively as I shoved a forkful of eggs in my mouth and started chewing. This was not the kind of food I was habituated to but here not only we were going to be taught to control ourselves in human society, we were also going to be taught about propriety. And for the love of God, I could not figure out in which century we were actually living in. “One look at you and anyone is going to say that you are hopelessly crushing on him. Dude, he is a teacher,” said Andrea as she smirked. I rolled my eyes at her comment and did not say anything. Neither did I tell them about the small encounter I had with him in the infirmary after I had regained consciousness. Bellamy was sitting with us. She was a lot more silent which is not at all normal and she was drinking a glass full of pomegranate juice which was supposed to help her make up for the blood loss and anemia. I wanted to tell her that everything was alright and it was all fine but I could not. The worst part was we all knew that the contract was not over with the vampire and now the one who would inherit his estate and his dealings was going to inherit Bellamy as well and this was something which was eating us all up from the inside. Then suddenly Bellamy said,” I don’t know properly but if my deductions and calculations are correct Eloa, then the hottie that you are crushing on is a Nephilim.” And the fork clattered from mine and Freddie’s hands simultaneously. Bellamy chuckled. This girl had a serious problem about letting on other people’s identities and spooky thing was she was most of the time correct. “But that would mean that he is the child of a human and an angel,” whispered Melanie as the repercussions of that happening crossed our mind. “But there have been no Nephilims found in a millennia Bell. I am sure that you are mistaken,” said Andrea in her usual manner which actually suited her. I nodded at her in agreement. “Well it has been said that they have not been found, it has not been said that they were not born,” said Bellamy with a smile as she rose from her chair with the plate and glass in her hand. I looked at Whitmore once again and found that he was not looking at anyone in particular but what I caught then was Taylor was trying to get his attention with her antics in her table of multiple Mean Girls and that made my blood boil. “Nephilims are so cool dude. And they are sooooooo hot. And they have some of these cool angelic powers,” said Andrea as she moaned at the thought and I glared at her. “I call dibs on him if there is one chance in hell that we can be together,” I said as Andrea looked at me in mock horror and then all of us burst laughing. We were so engrossed in our conversation that we forgot all our problems for a moment. Like everything was fine. But then Melanie said,” What do you think we should do about this Bell’s case?” “I don’t know for sure at the moment now but I am gonna say that we should wait till the Awakening in over because then it will take us time to get better from the effects and I have been to the infirmary for God knows what reason. So it is best to keep our heads down for the moment,” I said when I heard a male voice behind me say. “That is one of the most intelligent and sane things I have heard you speak so far.” I immediately whirled around to meet his blue gaze as I tried thinking what he had heard and what not till now. He did not wait for me to give an answer and I was left there with my mouth hanging open again. Why did this guy have to catch me like this? Hearing all our discussions? Did he have no sense of privacy at all? “Dude, you gotta watch your back. He has marked you for a trouble maker for some reason,” said Andrea and I again glared at her. “You think so?” I asked her calmly and they all went back to eating their food without question. They knew when I became mad it was best not to poke me. What they did not know was I had all the knives, silver knives and daggers in my dress so that I could return then back to the armoury so that we did not get into any more soup than we already are. I finished eating all that I could and then I said,” I am going to go back to my room. You guys take your time and finish eating.” Melanie looked at me with that look in her eyes when she could tell that I was up to something but she did not tell me anything. It was only three weeks and she knew me so well. Not even my own brother knew me like this. And I had a thought suddenly. I did not miss my family any longer. Weird as it might be, this had become my family now. I smiled as I left the plate at the washer and then wiped my face with a tissue and then started going up the stairs. Whitmore was no where to be found in the cafeteria so I thought that he was probably back in the teacher’s room or wherever he liked to be holed up. Even though I liked that man he was seriously getting on my nerves and that was not a nice thing at all. Finally I reached the fourth floor and pulled out the pin from my hair and worked as fast as I could. I did not have anyone as lookout today and there were chances that I could get caught and I only had ten minutes in my hand, tops before I had to reach my room in the dorm. As soon as I entered the armoury I went in the direction of the row where I knew the silver knives were kept. “I had a feeling that I was going to find you here.” The voice startled the life out of me and I immediately threw the knife in that direction from which the voice came and Whitmore caught hold of the knife before it could hit him. My heart was still thudding loudly for making me scared. “Nice reflexes,” he commented as he came forward. The smirk on his face made me want to knock out the living daylights out of him. “I am here to return back what we took. Melanie has already performed a cleansing ritual on all of them and I did not need them anymore,” I said as I replaced the rest of the knives in the row and started in the direction of the door when he blocked my path. “Not so fast. Tell me something Ms. Atwood, when you came to know that Ms. Johnson was being accosted by a vampire lord then why did you not come to headmaster Motley? What made you think that four kids like you were going to be a match to a vampire that old?” asked Whitmore as his blue gaze was fixed upon me and I had no where to run. “We did not know. I don’t know these things for sure, I get feelings…that there is something going on or there is something bad that might happen and that is all,” I replied as honestly I could. Now I could not tell him about all the feelings and their colours which were vivid to me. “You came here today for another reason, isn’t it?” asked Whitmore as he searched my face. Why did this guy had to know everything and behave in such an obnoxious manner? I wanted to scream out my frustration at him but I thought of playing nice. “I told you already, we did what we had to. He made her sign something without letting Bellamy know what she was getting into and if there is a chance that I might have this feeling about anyone else then I am going to do the same for them. And as for your next question, I don’t know what you are speaking about,” I said defensively as I crossed my arms on my chest and he smirked at me again. “You have to start controlling your prayers and thoughts if you want to not let me know about something Ms. Atwood. I know that you wanted to check something out last day when you were here and now you are still waiting for that to happen so that you can get on with it as soon as possible,” said Whitmore in a manner of speaking which meant he knew everything. Was he being able to hear my thoughts? “Yes,” he replied and I shrieked at him. He just laughed at my reaction. “That is a gross invasion of privacy. My private thoughts are mine and solely mine, you have no right to look at them or hear them whatever powers you might have. What kind of teacher snoops on his students’ thoughts anyway?” I asked as venom laced my words. He was taken aback at my reaction for a brief moment and then he said,” Well when you are in my position then you will understand that I am doing this. I hope that, that day never comes. I don’t like snooping and I hate listening to other’s thoughts but just know one thing, what I am doing it is for your own good.” I rolled my eyes and then said,” What is precisely that I have to do?” “Nothing at all. I had heard a music from the weapons ringing in my years last time you were here and I suppose you heard that too. So I just want to know that how did that happen and if you did something then I want you to show me what you did. It has been a long time since anyone in this Academy has made the weapons sing even before their Awakening,” said Whitmore as I looked at him with fear in my eyes. This was legitimately scary. Awesome, for sure but scary as hell.
