My girlfriend Becky's graduation day came last December on 3rd. It was on a Thursday.

That day remains my worst day ever. The worst!

Becky had just finished her form four when we first met. She was light, a graceful height, a pair of searching eyes and an easy smile. She was living with her parents in Isiolo town; the very same place I had been deployed by the ministry of water as a project intern for a rural water catchment initiative. Our first meeting was accidental. I passed by her mum's shop to get some airtime. It's Becky who had served me.

I had been awestruck by her beauty!

She served me with a lot of grace and humility. That day, my soul was lit on fire.

Our late-night conversations occasioned a certain level of attraction. After a couple of dates, we would no longer downplay the fact that we were fatally in love.

EARTH IS HARD
My girlfriend Becky's graduation day came last December on 3rd. It was on a Thursday. That day remains my worst day ever. The worst!Becky had just finished her form four when we first met. That day, my soul was lit on fire. Our late-night conversations occasioned a certain level of attraction. After a couple of dates, we would no longer downplay the fact that we were fatally in love. However, Becky asked me not to rush things. She had not known any other man before me and in all trueness, she wanted to figure me out, only then would she learn how best to love me.I was lucky, a man.Our days went by with grace. Our love grew each passing moment and we matched into a blissful future. A year passed and my Becky got her admission at MKU to study BCom...I knew what that admission meant to her and deep within, my heart was full. What made me beam with full manly esteem is that Becky knew my financial status and she was at peace with the fact that despite not having enough, the little we had would push us and with synergy, better days were ahead.Trouble began when Betty tearfully called me and told me with a lot of pain that she may not report to MKU after all. This is because her mum was unable to raise the fees that were required at the initial stages of the coursework.During that phone call, she sounded exhausted, pained and completely defeated. I felt what she was going through.I assured her that everything would go well. It's at that moment that I made the manly decision to empty the little I had saved at the bank and help my girl Becky get her admission at MKU.Becky was overly thankful. Within a month, she had finished her admission processes and settled on her first days as a fresher. The money I had given her assisted with her Fees and fairly with her personal necessities.Though things were tough at work, I promised to always send the little I could get to help her navigate the murky waters of campus Life.Dispute not having much, we were contented and our relationship was founded within the premise of trust, prayers and the sanctity of our emotions for each other.Days turned into Months and months blossomed into years. My beautiful Becky had blossomed into an amazing young career lady; Level headed and poised to expand her horizons and defeat her limitations. Occasionally, I fantasized about the shared future that we looked towards. A beautiful home, amazing kids and happily ever after.Unknown to my Becky, I had planned to propose to her on her graduation day. I had choreographed the perfect proposal that was going to cement our long relationship. She was now in her fourth year and sooner, she will be exiting the gates of undergraduate to pursue life to its full measure. Sadly, during her fourth-year first semester, I fell terribly ill and was admitted for a couple of weeks. My malaria was so bad, at a point, I even lost my memory partially. This also meant that I was also not able to keep paying for Becky's university fees.A couple of times she came to visit me at the hospital ward, she kept reassuring me not to worry about her and the Studies. She told me she was doing some online writing jobs and the little she was getting was assisting with her tuition fees. I was proud of her. The months flew by and soon, she had finished her Studies. Though I had been discharged during the month of November, I was under home-based care with the full and unwavering support of my mom. Becky's visits reduced significantly and when I confronted her for not being there, she kept blaming it on her new job as an intern at the ministry of public works. She occasionally sent me 1500sh or a maximum of 2k when I mentioned that I was running out of my drugs.December the 3rd came and for a week, I could not get my Becky on phone. I became so worried and completely disoriented. Where was my Becky? Was she okay? Had something bad happened? Two days before her graduation day, I received a call from a new number. Upon receiving the call, my moods lit up with excitement upon realizing it was my Becky on the other end.Becky told me she was so sorry she had gone MIA. This is because her phone had been stolen a week earlier and she had only replaced it a day earlier. She also told me this was her new contact and on the graduation day, she suggested that I come to join her and her family at 2 pm after the speeches and processions. I agreed with that and I was so excited about this big day in the life of my girlfriend. Finally, I was not only going to see her get her degree that I contributed so much on. But also I was going to put a ring on her finger and ask her to walk into matrimony with me.I was a happy man.Graduation Day came. Much as Becky had asked me to come to the ceremony at two pm, I saw it wise to go there at 10 AM, get into a nearby restaurant and wait for her to be free after the ceremony formalities. I donned the Italian bespoke suit that I had saved for this day. I picked up the semi silver ring that I had purchased a few months back before I had fallen ill. And off I left for the MKU graduation pavilion. The plan was that I would walk into the university grounds, head to the cafeteria and wait for 2 PM. I would then get to where Becky was with her family and give her the biggest surprise of her LifeHer dream proposal.I got to the MKU grounds at around 10:30 Am and begun asking my way to the campus cafeteria. I was directed and as I was walking towards the place, my attention was drawn to a group of people who were huddled around a Range Rover Vogue. The group was excited and singing merrily while taking pictures of what seemed like a Cake cutting session for a graduand. I dismissed them to be part of the very many groups of happy families who were joining their loved ones who were graduating. As I passed the group, out of curiosity, I decided to take a glimpse at the marrying graduands who had attracted such a huge group of people. As I got closer to range Rover Vogue, what I saw literally made me see the sun set at noon!Right by the Range Rover, my Becky was in her graduation gown, standing beside a White Guy. The white guy was seemingly the owner of the range, I watched in disbelief as he got closer to Becky, went on his knees and pulled out a golden Ring. The crowd around them was beaming with Joy ask them to take pics of the moment. The mzungu guy took the flashy ring and with a deep heavy British accent, he asked if Becky would marry him.'Yes I do' Becky replied to him as their lips interlocked
