All of them knelt in front of me, couldn’t able to endure the pain spreading inside their body due to the current numbing their nerves. Slowly, but surely, they lay flat on the ground but only one of them stayed standing. Heath has a lot of willpower to endure the excruciating pain. The darkness on his face and the anger glaring at me was enough to tell me how much he despises my existence.
With one last triumphant glare, I plastered a smirk on my lips as I blow him a breath, causing him to finally kneel in front of a Queen. I’m done here. With my stare turning cold, I rolled my eyes at him before turning my back at him. This encounter is adjourned, for now. It’s the Principal’s turn, he should be calling Heath’s parents right at this moment.
I graciously walked away from them as I heard the bell rang. A perfect timing. So... Did I waste an hour on that? I expected it to last more than that but, it’s surprisingly fast! And easy to capture them. I walked past some students secretly glancing in the direction I was in. Maybe they’re wondering why I’m attending the first period only at this hour when I hate being late and I’ve never been late for anything.
But then, when some of them took a glimpse of the commotion, I can hear their gasps and whispers escaping their mouths. I ignored their accusations about me being a delinquent and snitched on my, allegedly, comrades. And I just paid attention to where I am going.
I took a deep breath and inwardly shake my head. No matter how I reveal the truth, they will always believe lies because that’s what the majority believes in. Gossips must be spreading, words that I made Heath Evans go to Detention must be circulating already for my bashers to come running to the location of this big commotion and glared as they saw me walking past them.
As the triumphant smile curved on my lips, and delight flashed on my face, it irritated them more. This is exactly what I should be doing whenever someone tries to trample me down. The weak are agitated when their target couldn’t care less if they even existed.
I didn’t know that plotting a trap would be this easy. Something flashed on my mind. The second plotting would be difficult, P.E. Class is now my problem. What trap should I have to stop him?
*.*.*
Days passed, and chasing Heath was the only thing that’s crossing my mind. Somehow, I am starting to understand the pattern of their escaping. Still, it is not helping me at all. It only gives me a headache. Just like what happened last week.
I succeeded in, secretly, swapping their disguises. I thought it’s the most brilliant plan I’ve ever had. But to my dismay, and since they still have my Privilege Card which I don’t understand why it’s still operating and the school isn’t deactivating my old card, Heath and his boys easily slipped through the gates.
Turns out, they always have a spare of costumes. And since then, I was given a warning. But at the time, before I went home, I made sure that all of their spare costumes would be thrown away. Still, I need to steal that old card of mine. And I need to ask Mr. Hennigan about it.
I am guessing that they have some secret territory in LU since Heath may have been a spoiled brat and demanded his parents to have his own place here, so I desperately looked around and searched for it. Even if the dawn is waving at me, or the ghosts kept on bugging me, I did not stop. But of course, I wasn’t able to find their hideout.
It’s a bit petty, but I threatened the tailor— who were betraying the school and has been helping the delinquents— that if she did not stop with what she’s doing, I will sue her.
Although, I have been hearing gossips such as Heath and his friends were seen hanging out at the cafeteria during school hours. I would’ve dragged them towards their classes if it wasn’t for Evans’ parents, who had talked to Mr. Hennigan to inform me to just let them be.
They reasoned out that, it’s better to idle inside instead of loitering outside school grounds where Heath’s parents are unable to monitor him and his friends’ whereabouts.
I get their point, that’s why I did not interfere. But when they went back to breaking out again, that’s when I am so pissed as I am beginning to be under pressure just like before. And I am pissed about Mr. Hennigan for not telling me about a few secret doors hidden inside the hardened walls of the school, the reason why Heath and the other delinquents had no trouble escaping!
I am not surprised at how the boys have managed to get one of the school’s blueprint, Heath’s the son of the clan who helped LU thrived, anyway.
It’s Friday afternoon, and this only tells me one thing. Heath and I will be classmates. And, shockingly, this specific day of the week is the time where he doesn’t try to escape when it’s indicated in the contract that Fridays are one of the days he tries to leave.
It’s already 3 in the afternoon, and P.E. is my last subject. Our lesson for today is about Dancing. It is required that boys and girls must be partnered with each other. I want Michael to be my partner again because he’s great at dancing.
But because it’s in the contract that that bad boy should be partnered with me, I can’t do anything about it and just accept the misfortune in my fate.
“I will kick your ass if you do anything stupid again,” Heath threatened me.
He had just arrived here at the bleachers of the soccer field and that’s how he starts with being nice to me?
“You know, if you try to be gentler to me, I would’ve changed my mind and stop chasing you,” I teased.
The smirk on his face put a frown on my face. “Is that it? That’s the reason why you’ve been stalking me?”
I arched my brow. “Excuse me?”
“You like me, don’t you?”, the way he chuckled heated my cheeks making me flustered.
“How dare you set my standards. You’re not my type.”
I backed away a bit when he tried to get closer to me. We’re sitting on the bleachers, and only a few are here while the rest of our classmates decided to walk around the soccer field.
“Don’t be shy, love.. just tell me you like me.”
I rolled my eyes at how sudden the tone of his voice changed. My heart is beating fast, terrified of what could happen if his fangirls were to see us this close to each other. Stupid Heath! If one person scratched any part of my body, I will sue him for everything. What’s taking our teacher so long? He’s not being paid just to waste our time whenever he wants.
“What’s your deal?”, he asked after a while.
Is he talking to me?
Nah. I never want to talk to him again. Why did I even bother teasing him anyway? Besides, he broke my phone. And he never paid me for it.
But because Heath’s naturally mischievous, he kicked my foot hard.
“What the heck’s your problem!”, I wasn’t able to control my voice.
He arched his eyebrows. “And between us two, you have the urge to be angry at me?”
“As if you care?”, I stood up, went down a few bleacher-stairs, and was planning to be away from him when he pulled me back.
I accidentally elbowed his buddy.
He groaned in pain while clutching his private part. His hold on me loosened which I took the opportunity to be away from him. I walked few steps away before turning to him. Heath’s now glaring at me. A smirk curved on my lips, trying to hide the uneasiness that I am feeling.
“Try pulling a person again, and your eggs might c***k,” why am I so nervous about accidentally elbowing his manhood?
It’s not like I intended to do that!
Our teacher arrived just in time. He apologized for coming in so late before demanding us to a lineup with our partners. Great.
“Where’s Heath?”, Mr. Charles wondered.
“He’s on the bleachers... “ massaging his hurt buddy.
His eyes bore into mine. “He’s your partner, right? Get him, now. Our time is being wasted.”
I badly want to protest but I didn’t have much courage to do so, and just did what he told me. As I turned my back on them, I saw Heath staggering as he shortened our distance. I quickly faced Mr. Charles.
“He’s already on his way here, Sir Charles.”
He glanced in Heath’s direction. “What happened to him?”
“Oh my gosh! What happened to him?”
“I don’t know.”
“Why can’t any of you know anything? What have you girls been doing?!”
“Uh, duh! Sunbathing?”
“Didn’t I tell you that I should be doing that first?”
“We’re not your maid, sister. We’ll do whatever we want.”
“Argh! Because of your stupidity, my Heath has been hurt!”
“How dare you state that as if you own him? You’re not even his girlfriend!”
“What did you just say?!”
“Girls, that’s enough. Blaming anyone will do you no good,” they all fell silent.
Sir Charles decided to help him near us. “Who’s his partner again?”, he ordered Heath to stop walking.
And every one of us had our jaws dropped. When no one answered his question, he looked at us. Sir Charles had a frown on her face as he continues to stare at our shocked expression.
“What’s with the looks everyone?”, you can easily sense the irritation in his voice because of how his eyebrows creased into a grim line.
“It’s just that... you have forgotten that Caitlyn Montero is his partner, S-Sir..” said a man a few feet away from me.
“So? Are human beings not allowed to forget names and such?”
It’s as if a big banner was pierced through my head because of what he said. He has a point. As your age adds up, you begin to forget numerous things.
“Serves her right,” said a girl who intended on letting me hear those words.
I cleared my throat before walking towards Heath and Sir Charles.
“Are you his partner?”, Sir Charles asked.
I badly want to throw tantrums at him because of his continuous questions of, am I Heath’s partner. It feels like he’s doing this on purpose! But I can’t just act so childish in front of everyone. They might think of me as an immature girl. Which I’m not!
“Yes... Sir.. “ asking also for his name would be good revenge, then again, I am not childish!
“What happened to your partner?”
My eyes widened at the sudden question. “S-sir?”
When I glanced at Heath, he was devilishly smiling. But Sir Charles couldn’t see that because he’s great at hiding it. How I want to kick his balls again!
“I am asking you, what happened to Heath? He is your partner, right? You should know what your partner’s doing. Have you not been listening to my lectures? Or you just hate the subject?”
I felt my ears and cheeks almost turning pink, not because of humiliation, but because of how ridiculous teachers are to accuse me of not listening nor hating the topic they’re discussing. How can they even say such things when they are the ones who always tell us to never point a finger at anyone unless they have proof
The girls at the back started giggling as the boys sniggered, amused at what was happening. Irritated at them laughing at me, I can’t do anything but just ignore them.
Be mature, Cait, be matured.
“He’s not my boyfriend, nor my husband, Sir. So why must I update myself of what in the world he’s been doing?” I reasoned out.
“Yes, you are not romantically related to each other, but the task I had given to all of you is to know everything about your partner. Be it their whereabouts or whom they’re with, you have to know everythingabout him. Do you understand?”
I pursed my lips as he continued to lecture me.
“As far as I can remember, you are one of the most attentive students of mine. You were Michael’s partner before. You should know by now the motto of the school when it comes to dancing. Because that’s how the two of you became champions in every contest you joined. It’s about the perfect chemistry when it comes to dancing, how come you’re giving me that childish reason?”
I wasn’t able to speak, nor rebut with what’s circling in my head. Because what he said was true. He must’ve noticed that I have some personal grudge on Heath with just one question of mine. I understand what he’s saying, I just couldn’t control my emotions whenever Heath’s around... or close to me.
Sir Charles was Michael and I’s mentor when the school decided to join the National Dance Competition. He knows a lot about my personality.
“I’m sorry, sir,” I said in a whisper.
I heard him sighed before tapping my shoulder as if telling me that it was okay. That next time, I shouldn’t be like this again.
“You should take him to the clinic—“
“Let me, sir, please!”
“No! It should be me, sir. I can take good care of my role as Heath’s servant. So, pick me!”
“No, choose me! I can do that without complaints. Promise, I won’t let him fall.”
“She’s so clumsy, sir, so choose me!”
Sir Charles shook his head as he watched the girls be in madness. He was about to speak when Heath cut him off.
“No, it’s fine, I can go there by myself,” he said acting as if in pain.
For everyone, his tone sounded normal, but it's clear in my mind something antagonizing hidden in them. Once again, Sir Charles had been cut off.
"No, let me take care of him," I declared as I plastered a sweet smile.
Still bewildered at what was happening, he spoke. "Okay then, just make sure to hurry back."
And with that, he let us go. Heath put an arm around me for support as we start walking towards the Infirmary. I tightened my grip on his waist, in case he plans to escape from me.
"Scared of, me, running away from you?", he teased while his nails slowly dug on my skin.
"Who knows? You might trip and fall if I let you go."
Heath chuckled before whispering in my ear. "Sneaky girl."
