Chapter 6

Ava’s POV : At first I felt as if I were floating between sleep and wakefulness. A strange brightness pressed against my closed eyelids warm and shimmering. My head ached dully, and my body felt unusually heavy. Am I still dreaming…? I wondered. Slowly...I opened my eyes. Light flooded my vision so suddenly that I winced and squeezed them shut again. When I tried once more shapes began to form blurred colors soft movement and unfamiliar shadows. This was not my room. This was not my world.... Then I saw her. A tiny figure hovered in the air in front of me. Fear struck me like lightning. “A—a fairy?!”I screamed. My sudden cry echoed through the forest. The moment my voice rang out the fairy panicked and shot away like a frightened bird diving straight into a nearby bush of flowering plants. The leaves rustled violently before falling silent again. My heart pounded wildly as I pushed myself into a sitting position, breathing hard.I looked around in disbelief. Towering trees surrounded me. Strange glowing plants dotted the forest floor. Everything was too vivid…too real. This has to be a dream I thought desperately. But when I tried to stand up,a sharp sting shot through my palm. “Ow…!” I looked down and saw a small cut on my hand. Fresh blood shimmered under the strange light. The pain was real. This isn’t a dream. My stomach twisted in fear. Just then,I noticed movement inside the bush. Two glowing eyes peeked out cautiously. That’s when I realized the fairy was still there watching me. Slowly, carefully I stepped closer.I didn’t want to scare her again.I lifted my uninjured hand and stretched it out gently silently telling her I meant no harm. For a few tense seconds nothing happened. Then very slowly the fairy emerged from the flowers. My breath caught in my throat. She was…beautiful. Her face was soft and innocent her elf-like ears delicate.Long white hair flowed down her back like silk under moonlight. A tiny crown made of flowers and blue-green gemstones rested on her head. Her wings shimmered like butterfly wings soft glowing, and impossibly magical. She wore a light white-golden, short flowy dress that made her look as if she was made entirely of light. I had only ever seen fairies like this in storybooks. And now one was standing right in front of me. Carefully, she placed her tiny hand on my palm. Warmth spread through my chest.A smile slowly curved on my lips before I could stop it. Seeing me smile the fairy’s eyes lit up and she fluttered happily in the air around me,spinning in soft joyful circles. For a moment my fear faded. Then reality crashed back into me. I turned in every direction trying to understand where I was. How did I come here? And suddenly, the memory hit me. The gift. The crystal ball. The blinding light. After that… nothing. My breath caught in my throat as the truth settled in. The crystal ball brought me here. Panic flooded my chest. Then how do I go back? My heart began to race.If the crystal ball had sent me here maybe it could take me back too. With desperate hope I began searching wildly around me behind trees beneath flowers, through the bushes. “Where are you…?”I whispered frantically. But no matter how hard I looked… there was nothing. The crystal ball was gone. The realization hit me like a crushing weight. My legs gave out and I sank down onto the ground. My vision blurred as tears filled my eyes. Fear confusion, and frustration twisted inside my chest until I could barely breathe. I was truly alone in an unknown world. Then a soft voice broke through my silence. “Hey… where do you live? And what is your name?” I looked up.The fairy hovered in front of me,her glowing eyes filled with gentle concern. With a shaky voice...I replied, “My name is Maren Ava.” Then I looked at her and asked quietly, “What is your name?” She smiled softly. “My name is Yumi.” Despite everything a small smile escaped my lips. “That’s a very sweet name.” Yumi smiled back at me and for the first time since arriving in this strange world,I felt a faint sense of comfort.
