24Mending FencesTaking a place at the bar that night, Tazia felt nervous. She was usually good at bluffing confidence she didn’t feel—tonight wasn’t one of those nights. Upon her arrival, Conn had poured her a drink and invited her to take a stool. He’d smiled and winked a greeting at her, but had yet to say anything as he was busy serving a party of customers. They were a motley collection of demons, mostly pure breeds. Only a couple had the familiar Celtic Soldier appearance she was now used to seeing, the others spanned a number of races. One was a mixed breed of the type she’d gotten the guns from which surprised her. Those guys were not renowned for having any decency whatsoever. It reminded her that Conn dealt with some very nasty types if they had what he, and the Cause, needed. I
