The first two days of Eric staying with Matthew and I were unbelievably smooth. The kids came home from Matthew’s parents and were thrilled to see Uncle Eric since it had been close to a year since the last time he visited. I think they were more surprised that he didn’t bring them ridiculously elaborate and over-the-top gifts like usual than they were to discover he had been hurt and in the hospital.
Although, that may be partly my doing. Over the years, I may have jaded them to the idea of Eric being hurt. His jobs were always so dangerous that I expected bad news to always be around the corner. Just one more thing that points to my hidden love for Eric in hindsight.
