Soon after the doctor left, Matthew called in pizza to save the three of us from cafeteria fare for dinner. I am usually the caretaker of our little family, but my husband is truly rare. Whenever I'm sick, weak, or stressed, Matthew takes over without being asked. The key phrase here is without being asked. We are partners in every definition of the term.
I smile my agreement to his order selections while still laying in Eric's hospital bed. I don't mention that the last meal Eric ate was frozen pizza out by a campfire at the cabin. And the term ate is still loosely applied here as Eric mostly picked and mumbled at the frozen pizza due to his rotten mood at the time. As they say, beggars can't be choosers.
