Should I have stayed to face Eric? Probably not. I know that I am putting my relationship with Eric above my relationship with Matthew for a few hours, but I honestly believe marriage - my marriage - can and should survive a few hours. Matthew asked me to do this for a week for him. It seems right to ask him for a few hours for me.
The sun is dropping in the sky by the time Dante and Eric’s voices make it back to the cabin. I feel much more myself, and ready to face my friend. They are teasing each other about one another’s catch of the day, with Eric’s being the most pitiful. Apparently, Dante charms fish as well as women.
“Hey, darlin’. Come and see what we’ve brought for dinner,” Dante calls out to me.
