We three sit at the kitchen bar top and eat the fish fry that I helped Dante prepare. I acted mostly as sous chef because he knows his way around the small cabin kitchen better than I do. He was right, too. Dante’s fry batter was delicious. If he leaves private forces, he deserves a shot in Ma’s restaurant.
Dante and I dominate most of the dinner conversation, happily connecting over favorite dishes to cook and our love of all things salty and savory.
