Chapter Five

1251 Words
I arrived to work an hour late. Apparently, I was unconscious longer than I thought. I went to the employee room straight away to get ready. I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror and gasped.Damn! How could I be so stupid? I forgot to cover up the bruise on my neck. Jane and Chase walked into the room with a mix of concern, sadness, and anger. I knew they were staring at my neck, so I ran out the back door. Guess I won't be working today; I thought as I made my way to the lake. I only wanted to go to see Chase one last time anyway. At the lake, I sat for on the freshly cut grass looking out to the water. I want to savior this moment of peace. The smell of the grass, the breeze on my skin, and the beauty of the sun reflecting on the water. I'm absolutely terrified of drowning, but this is how I'm choosing to leave. I already know all to well how it feels to not be able to breathe. I rather be out here in the beauty of nature than endure my last moments on Earth at my house. I stood up and made my way to the water. I walked until the freezing water was up to my chin. "I'll see you soon, mom." I quietly say as I look up to the sky. Chase's POV I looked over at Jane after Amy darted through the back door. "Jane, we have to do something. Someone is obviously hurting her! You saw those marks!" I put my hands over my face as I let out a sigh. I barely know her, but it hurts me to see Amy in so much pain. "Chase, go follow her and bring her back here. I have an idea that she may agree to." "Okay, I'll be back soon. " I reply as a grab my keys and head out. As I'm driving, I try to think of where she could be. I don't even know where she lives. She mentioned the library, so I'll try there first. She seems like the smart, nerdy type of girl. Just picturing her in my head makes me smile. Her hazel eyes, long chocolate hair, porcelain skin. She looked like a real life doll. Her laugh, I could listen to it forever. It was like music to my ears. Whenever she smiles, I can't help but do the same. My thoughts came to a halt as I caught a quick glimpse of movement in the woods that are behind the library. Could that be Amy? I decided to park the car and talk the path in the woods. It leads to a lake, so I hope that's where she went to. I go there myself sometimes to just relax when I'm feeling stressed out. I reached the lake and searched for any sight of her. The sun was bright, though it was still pretty chilly. I sit down on the grass and let out a groan on disappointment. I thought for sure I saw her walking this direction. Maybe she is at the library? I guess I'll make my way back there. I pick up a small stone and walk over to the lake to skip it before leaving. I was always fascinated by the small ripples it would make as it bounced across. I skip the stone and watch it dance across the water. My gaze paused as it skipped by bubbles? Huh? There's a lot of them too. Oh no. "AMY!" please, please, please don't let it be her. I toss my shirt off and make me way as quick as possible to where the bubbles are. I try to ease my mind by thinking it's fish or a turtle, anything except a human. Especially not Amy. SHIT! I can't find them anymore. I dive under water to try to find any clues as to what or who it is. My heart is racing as I see I figure of a girl not moving. I grab her and bring her back to shore. My heart is racing as I look down at her limp body. Amy. I start performing CPR on her. "Amy! Please, don't leave me!" "Come on, Amy!" "Breathe dammit!" Amy POV Everything is black. Am I dead? If I am, where am I? Why can't I see anything or anyone? I walk until I see a small white light. Seeing the light, makes me run faster to it. As I reach the light, I see a bench near a lake. What makes me tear up is the person sitting on it, my mom.  "Mom?!" "Amy, my darling, come sit." She says as she pats the seat next to her on the bench. I sit next to her and we both immediately hug each other. I bury my face on her shoulder as I let out a river of tears. "Mom! I've missed you so much." I sob. "I've missed you too, but we don't have much time." "What do you mean?" I ask. "I heard you cry out to me and saw what you did." I don't say anything as I let her continue talking. "You're not dead, Amy. You'll be waking up soon. I just wanted to let you know how much I love you. Please, don't ever harm yourself again. I'm sorry for the way your father is treating you. I have never been angrier or disappointed in that man." " I just don't understand mom. Why is he doing this to me?" " I honestly don't know. I have to return now, as do you." " I love you, too." I say as I hug her again. "Oh, and Amy. Happy early Birthday my sweet girl." *GASP* My eyes shot open, but quickly shut from the sun being bright. I needed a moment to adjust to the light. I'm laying on my side as water spits out of my mouth. What happened? When I adjust my eyes, I see a relieved and scared Chase. My memory quickly returns as I remember what I did. "Amy?!" I hear Chase call out my name. I have no energy to talk, so I just give him a small smile.  And, wow! He looks so hot right now. His wet black hair shuffled all over the place, those piercing green eyes, and holy 6 pack! I must be drooling while staring, because I see a smug look on his face.  Next thing I know, he is holding me in his arms. I never felt so much warmth, I don't ever want to let go. "Amy, you scared the hell out of me! What were you thinking? Why didn't you talk to me or Jane? We can help you!" I flinched at him yelling at me. He must have noticed because his facial expression changed to one of shame. "I didn't mean to yell at you, I'm sorry. I was just so scared that I lost you. If I came any later, you would probably not be here in my arms right now." Why does he even care? I thought to myself. I don't feel like asking or talking right now. I'll find out later. "Can I take you to the hospital, please? Just to make sure you're okay?" "NO!" I shouted instantly. I could tell he didn't like that answer, but he didn't argue with me. "Okay, then can you come with me back to the diner?" "Okay." With that response, he picks me up and carries me back to his car.
