Chapter 2 SOL SWARN

1160 Words
Sol Prologue. It's funny how life has turned out for me. One day, I'm on the playground playing with my sister, and the next minute I'm being married to one of the most dangerous men and creatures to ever walk, Doris. If you ever asked me,do you believe that love could save you or do you believe in love at all, I would say no, not a chance? But now I'm standing in this bathroom trying to decide whose life to take, mine or the man I love. Should I take his and risk it all, run away with my sister if I manage to live through interrogation, or should I take mine and leave the only happiness I have behind? Either way, one of us has to die! Sol, means sun, a warm ray of light that could brighten the shadiest night, a warm ray of light that could warm up the coldest days. Is that what I am? Or Is that what I was? Chapter two Sitting on my window ledge looking out the window of my bedroom, the sun is shining, birds are chirping and children are playing. School is out and no one is needed to give blood until the beginning of next month. Outside, playing. I can’t tell you the last time I’ve been outside for fun, the only time I’m allowed outside is to go to the clinic or to take my weekly walk with Kyro my brother for sunlight. KNOCK! KNOCK! Al ock on the door catches my attention and then my brother's voice calling out to me got me on my feet. “Sol, it’s time.” Kyro said as I got down. My name is Sol Swarn. I'm nineteen years old and I live in the country of Doris. I have long brown hair, honey brown eyes, slim with a porcelain skin color. I’m walking along the hallway towards the dungeon located at the back of our house, the smell of dust, blocks and blood fills my nostrils, always taking me by surprise no matter how many times I come down here. “Walk.” Kyro shoves me from behind as I slow my pace. I stumble a little before falling flat to my knees inside the dirty, bloodstained cell. The robe around my body loosens as I hang my head and prepare myself for what’s about to come. WHIP! WHIP! WHIP! The sound of the leather whip hitting against my back and my teeth gnashing against each other dances around the room. A little whimper escaped my lips rewarding me another lash, harder than the others. “Stand to your feet.” Kyro my brother shouted. He lands the first blow, hitting me in the right shoulder and I deliver the second connecting it to his stomach. We’re fighting combat style just like we’ve been fighting since the day I turned ten years old. He kicked me, I coughed him. He snatched my arm and twisted it around to my back and I stomped on his feet and elbowed him in his groin. Once he released me I landed two punches. One to the stomach and one to the chest leaving him crouching and laughing. Standing at his feet and straightening his back, I get myself together and await his next order. He’s walking around me like a predator does its prey. His hands running through my hair and fingers curling strands around them. “You're so beautiful my sweet Sol, your skin is so smooth and shiny no matter how much damage it obtains. Your long silk hair, brown eyes and that beautiful smile that is really seen. I swallow hard! “It’s a shame, a shame we have to give you to the MONSTER. But it’s for the best.” “MONSTER..” “Yes my sweet sister, the time has come for you to marry, you're going to be marrying Prince Rye of Doris. Filthy blood sucking bastard.” Kye said. “I’m going.. to marry him?” “Yes. And kill him.” Kyro said. “Kill him?” “Why do you think we’ve been training you, of course, to kill him, that and to be able to withstand the interrogation process. Just as a precaution in case you get captured. And if you do father and I would not be coming to your assistance, so don’t mess up.” He said. Then it hit me, I should have known something was wrong the night the royal guest came over, the night they put me in a fancy dress and combed my hair, laced my neck with jewelry. That was the night I was given to the vampire king. That was the night of my nineteenth birthday. He put his finger up as a warning, “Don’t embrace me and your parents, do you hear me?” “Yes.” He turned towards the door, placed both hands into his pockets and whistled as he walked towards the door. “Sol.” He called, causing me to turn my attention to where he’s now standing. “And don’t let him touch you, because when this is all done. I’m going to take you, marry you and make you mine. After all, we're not really brother and sister.” With that he’s gone, leaving one of the royal guards to take me back to my room. I sit on my bed, pull my knees to my chest and bite down on my lower lip hard enough to draw blood. ‘Remember why you're doing this Sol, remember why you're not using what you learned against them. It’s because you want your sister to be free.’ My mother and father hold my younger sister Rain as a hostage, that way they know they can keep me under control. That way they’d be sure I don’t do anything stupid. I can’t believe my own parents would do this to me. SOL means: sun, a ray of light that could shine the coldest of days and the darkest of nights. So why am I filled with only darkness on the inside? “Sol, it’s time for your bath.” I heard the head maid Racheal say. Dropping my robe to the floor I look my back over in the wall mirror in front and behind me, the winds are raw and bloody and the ones that don't look like veins running along my back. After releasing a heavy sigh I walk to the bathroom and sit in the warm salt water gripping the edge of the tub. Warm salt water, another one of their punishments. I closed my eyes as the pain became something I could handle and swallow my cry. Everyday a new block goes up to help finish building my wall of defense. Because after I’m done with this mission and I get my sister back. Mother, father and Kyro and at the top of my list.
