Chapter 19 Sol

1226 Words
I’ve been on edge since I visited with mother, not only does she want me to kill Rye before our agreed time. She also has someone watching my every move, at least that’s what it feels like. Today I have an appointment with the dressmaker lady Ashley, I want a gown to be made for king Cedric’s ball, and she’s one of the best. It took me and Rye both surprised when she called and asked if she couldn’t have the honor of making me something. The only problem is that, I’m not one to dress up, I love the simple things in life. I’ll take a pair of jeans, a shirt, and ballerina flats any day over dresses and gowns. But it’s king Cedric’s ball and as the first daughter-in-law, I have to try. I’m sitting in the car with Rye’s lunch bag in hand looking out the window, as the vehicle came to a halt outside his office I see a known figure walking through the door. It’s Orisha, of course. A part of me wants to pull her by the hair and drag her back to the council, but the bigger part of me knows Rye and I married for peace. But I can’t deny having feelings for him. As I said to myself a million times, he’s treated me better than the people I call family. Frank opens King Cedric's door first, then opened mine and we both make our way up the elevator and into his office. My feet came to a halt as I saw Orisha standing over Rye in a short red skirt and tight blue-white long-sleeve shirt, placing a spoon full of something in his mouth. King Cedric slammed the door shut, and she jumped, dropping the spoon and its contents onto the floor. Rye bolted from his seat and over to me. He looked me in the eyes and took my hand in his. I smashed the lunch bag against his chest turned and walked out, I mean he isn’t really my his… “Sol… Wait, please.” He cut my thought as I walk towards the elevator. “Nothing happened, she, I.” “I’m late for my appointment, we’ll talk at home.” “No, we’re doing this now.” The elevator door opened, and he grabbed my hand pulling me in, he pushed the red button, bringing the elevator to a halt. “Nothing happened, she… I know how it looked, but nothing happened.” “Really, am I really supposed to believe that?” “I’ll never lie to you, Princess.” The back of his hand touched my cheek. “Don’t call me that.” “I’ll never lie to you, or hurt you Princess Sol, I… I…lo…” I burst out in tears before he could finish his sentence. He’s looking at me confused, lost even. It’s not that I’m jealous or angry at what I just saw. It’s because even though we aren’t the best couple, I know he wouldn’t hurt me. And now I have to kill him, I have to draw his last breath and run away and hide. With no one to love me, cherish and want to protect me. He continues to look at me, wide-eyed hands wiping the tears as they flow down my cheek. I need to get out of here, I need to get out of this elevator. I smash my hand over the button and turned away as the elevator made its way down to the first floor, and as it came to a stop, I ran out. Curse me for having this life, curse me for having to do something I don’t want to but have to, and curse me for being born into this world. Sitting in the car cleaning my face off before king Cedric comes to the vehicle, I smile as the decision on what’s to be done finally settles within the pits of my stomach. I know what I have to do, and before I do it, I’m going to make sure Rye or anyone else doesn’t see me as a young stupid girl. The shy girl act has to go and the real me, the Sol they tried to kill, is here. King Cedric comes out with his face stone-cold hard, he starts apologizing as he sits in the car looking at me. “It’s ok sir, this isn’t your fault and I know Rye wouldn’t do anything to hurt me.” “I still apologize on behalf of my son, he’s an i***t and Orisha…” “Sir, don’t worry about it. It’s fine.” I squeezed his hand and the car drove off. We slowly approach Lady Ashley’s house, it’s both her studio and home, it’s big, peach with a wide open front yard and a tennis court to the side. There are statues of the peeing boy all over the garden. Before we exist, the car king, Cedric puts his hand on my shoulder. “Call me father, Cedric, anything but sir.” he squeezed, and we exited. A short lady with long black hair, clean white skin and deep red eyes comes running over to us. She stood before us and bows to Cedric first and then to me. “Ohh, princess Sol. I have the perfect dress for you. “ She stops me in the middle of the hallway and walks around me with her finger tapping against her cheek. “Slender figure, nice collarbones, perfect and well taken care of hair and honeycomb eyes that sparkle. What a beauty, imagine what shed look lie as a vampire my king. Ohh, the boys would go crazy and Rye would be on his toes.” She drags me with her to the study as Cedric walks behind slowly, grinning from ear to ear. She shows me different designs and color patterns. But there was one dress that caught my attention. A deep blue sweetheart neckline with little to no glitter scattered all over the fabric. “I'm sorry, Princess Sol, the dress was initially intended for you. But one if the staff doesn't know me, gave it to someone else.” Lady Ashley said. “Can't you… Who those this dress now belong to ?” Cedric asked. The room went silent and from the look on their faces I could tell they were having a very heated argument and Lady Ashley wasn't winning. That made the little light spark inside of me and I took my time and circled the dress only to see the name Orisha pinned to the back. My eyes then diverted to a photo above me, it looked like. “Where did you get this photo, Lady Ashley?” “Ohh, King Cedric gave me this year ago, she's my inspiration. Back when she was alive before we all turned into what we are now. We used to make dresses together. Rest her soul.” I took my time looking at the photo. Ryes mom is really a beautiful woman. “King… I mean Cedric, can you excuse us for a minute.” he nods and leaves? As if lady Ashley already knew why I was thinking, she shouted for her assistance. “We need pins, my tape and different color sample fabrics. Let's go, ladies.”
