Chapter 21 Sol

1370 Words
The house is just as I left it with no homey feeling whatsoever, the same plan walls with minimum paintings. The same empty hallways because they don’t have many people they trust and the same blood smell, my blood. “Honey.” Mother cried, snapping me out of my daze. I smile and place my hands around her waist, giving her a light squeeze, hers was tight. It’s a reminder that she’s in charge. That she has the cards in hand and if I even think about running for the hills, my sister would die. “Rye, darling.” Mother then bows in respect. I look at Rye, and even a blind person could see he would rather not be here. But I’m still glad he’s here for me. Within touching his shoulder, he relaxes and replaced her bow with a hug. My father then steps forward, shakes Rye's hand, and bows before us. Mother's posture goes from a Friend to an enemy instantly. She never liked bowing to Rye and Cedric, she says it’s not her place as l queen over Doris. Kyro comes forward next and stands in front of us both. He looks the same, same short hair, smile, and eyes that could kill from a mile away. “Prince Ryeidon.” He bows. “My heart, my soul, and my blood. Princess Sol, my beautiful sister, it’s so nice to see you again.” He grabs me by the waste picks me up spins me around, then takes his hand and squeezes my head to his shoulder placing a kiss in my cheek. He stops spinning and holds me still in his arms, my body is frozen solid as I look at him and see the menacing smile. “Did you miss your brother because he has certainly missed you?” He said. I wiggle myself out of his hands as the shock wears off, and his eyes land on Rye, before I could land on my feet he places me down gently. Rye steps forward and one of the kitchen staff comes through the kitchen doors just in time. “Dinner is ready, sir.” She says to her father. “Come on, let’s go.” Mother calls to us. Rye stays frozen in place for a minute catching us all off guard, his hands in his pocket and his eyes not moving, he isn’t even blinking. Frank comes out of the black SUV takes our bags and walks behind us. Mother shows us to our room first to freshen up and leaves, Frank drops the bags and closes the door. We stand still until we hear his footsteps settle outside. “Are you ok?” He asks as he sits on the bed. “Yes, I’m fine. I’m sorry about what… Kyro…” He’s up in a second and standing in front of me, “My pretty girl, don’t apologize for something you didn’t do.” His words caught me off guard, and he knows it, he smiles, and I wrap my hands around his waist pulling him closer to me. He’s frozen one e more, he opens his mouth to speak but can’t. Leaving his mouth in an o shape and flabbergasted. “Ryeidon, thank you for coming with me today.” I place a kiss on his cheek, release my hands from around his waist and pull him to the dining area. Frank walks behind us, every step making me more aware of his presence. “You didn’t have to bring Frank, I don’t think they would do anything.” “They wouldn’t try. But Frank doesn’t like them, and he doesn't like you being here, so he asked to come along. And anyone who wants to protect their future queen is allowed anywhere she goes.” His words hit my heart, ‘future Queen.’ He thinks so highly of me if only he knew what awaits him. He wouldn’t think this highly of me anymore. “Let’s go.” His palm lands gently in the center of my back as we walk in mom helping the kitchen staff place the meals on the table. “Rye, dear, we forgot to gather blood for you to have with your meal. I was so preoccupied with being happy to my daughter was finally coming home for the night, I forgot the most important thing.” “It’s ok Louis, I have all the blood I need right here.” He turns looks at me and smiles, a spoon knocks against a plate drawing our attention. “You drink from my sister.” Kyro's eyes burn with anger. “How can I drink from something so precious, an owner of the most rearward diamond wouldn’t give it up.”? He smirks. “You just said.” Frank cuts Kyro off and hands me a packet of O-positive blood. I unseal the packet and pour it into the glass set before him, not before Frank smells the glass and runs his finger along the bottom. Everyone settled around the table and mother says her thanks to us for coming, “Rye, as a royal and next in line to the throne, you don’t just eat from anyone. But I hope that you can trust your mother-in-law and enjoy your meal.” Rye nods and Frank steps forward, tasting every dish laid out in front of us. I sat there, totally baffled as Rye kept my hand locked in his. It’s unnecessary what his doing, but I know why he’s doing it shows, it is a way of telling them that he holds power. Above them all. Dinner goes along pretty well after that, father mother, and Rye indulged in conversation about how they could help the people. Kyro was even in on the conversation. As I sat there and looked on, a big part of me wished this were my real family. My real parents met my husband, my sister smiling and joking with him the way she did with Lewis. But that would never happen because my parents are dead and soon one of us would be, the reality of what has to be done finally settled. It finally settled in the pit of my stomach the way flood water settles on the road after a flood. I’ll never be able to grow old with the man that I love. I’ll never be able to walk hand in hand with him, and I’ll never be able to hear the words ‘I love you every morning.’ After dinner, we sat on the porch for a little while and just talked about anything and everything. I’ve never seen them like this before, they are always on the edge and fighting, even when we had dinner together. After that, we headed to our room to settle for bed, Rye showered first, and I showered after. While he sat in the bed with his laptop running through some emails. I use the time to stand outside on the balcony and stare up at the moon. It isn’t full, it’s just a half moon, but shining brightly. On nights like this, I’d always grab a blanket and sleep outside, falling asleep looking up while thinking about another life. “You look beautiful standing under this light, Princess.” I hear Rye say as he takes his place next to me. “So do you.” I smile as I see him glitter under the light. It always amazes me how different they are to us, we walk, they glide, we run they run faster. We exist they live. “It’s time for bed, Princess.” “Are you finished with your work?” “It doesn’t matter whether I’m finished or not, you're tired and need to sleep.” “I’m not tired, I can wait until you're finished.” “Your body says you're tired, your eyes say you're tired, and the way breathing pattern says you're tired. I’m here Sol, no one’s coming to get you, now come on let’s go to bed.” We lay there in the bed together, his hands around me tight, holding me as I slowly drift off to sleep.
