The Rejected Alpha

Chapter 8

The day seemed like an eternity, with William and Sebastian constantly arguing over Kelly, and just before school ended, they decided they will slip out the back and not go with Kelly.

William walked into the house, just to find Simon and Isabella sitting in the kitchen. Simon looked at William, but he could see the normal disdain in his eyes were gone, he looked more afraid than anything else. Isabella just looked away and didn’t even greet William as he walked up to his room.

“We are to be mated”, he suddenly heard out of nowhere, and William quickly sat up straight on his bed.

“Did you hear that” Sebastian asked him,” it sounded like Isabella”.

“Yes,” William said, “but she hasn’t shifted yet, she cannot be our mate.” Just then they heard Simon respond, “yes, our parents are convinced that it will be good for us, the Future Alpha and the daughter of the current Beta.”

“We shouldn’t be listening” said William, “but how is this possible; they are far away from us?”

“It must be another thing you weren’t told that happens after your shift”, Sebastian said to William.

The next day at school, when William walked into the school yard, he could immediately see Kelly walking towards him. We need to get away, said Sebastian, and William hurriedly looked for somewhere to run, but it was too late.

“Morning stranger,” Kelly greeted. “Oh, and thanks for not showing up yesterday,” the disappointment clearly in her voice.

“I am sorry”, said William.” I went for a run after school, and completely lost time.”

“I will forgive you this one time”, smiled Kelly, “coffee this afternoon then?”

“Yes,” said William, “I will see you at 2 after school.”

As Kelly turned around and walked away, William thought to himself, “we need to just finish school next month, and then it is off to the army. We need to somehow avoid Kelly until then. Who knows what will happen to her if Alpha Gabriel found out she was talking to William.”

The next month was a constant struggle for William to avoid Kelly, but somehow he managed and was very relieved to hear the school bell ring for the last time.

“Free at last,” thought William, “free from school, free from my father and free from this town”.

“Hi, William”, his thoughts got interrupted by Kelly’s voice. “Did I do something wrong”, she asked?

“No”, is all William could manage to say when he turned around to face Kelly.

“Well then,” Kelly said, “seeing that school is over, and we are standing here together, we can then go for that coffee now that you promised but keep on avoiding.”

“I am sorry,” said William, “I have to get home and get ready to leave. I have a lot of things still to pack.”

“Where are you going”, asked Kelly in a surprised voice?

“I am going to do my military service,” William replied.

“Then we really need to go for that coffee”, Kelly insisted.

“Let’s just go and get this over with”, Sebastian growled in annoyance in William’s head. “Okay,” said William, “I will see you at the coffee shop.”

“Oh no mister,” Kelly laughed,” I will walk with you.”

Fear entered William, “what if someone saw us walking together and told my father”, he thought. “Kelly will not be safe“

As they walked to the coffee shop, William was relieved to not see any of the pack children around, and he knew that it would be okay to chance the coffee.  “We have to make this quick,” William thought, “I have a lot of things to get ready before I leave, and I still want to go for a run.”

As soon as the coffee arrived, William added milk and sugar and started to drink his coffee. “Ouch,” he heard himself say, “this coffee is hot”. As he looked up, he could see Kelly laughing at him.

“In a hurry” she asked?

William looked at her and thought to himself, “why am I only doing this now? Why have I avoided her all this time? Look at her sitting there, her beautiful face, blue eyes, flowing locks of red hair, and those tiny freckles on her face made her look amazing”.

“Because”, growled Sebastian, “we are dirty, we are stained remember. Don’t ever forget what Beta Richards and his wife did. We do not deserve to have friends, especially not human friends.”

“William,” he heard Kelly, “are you listening to me? “

“I am sorry”, William replied. “Thank you for the coffee, but I need to go.” William took some money from his pocket and handed it to Kelly, just before he darted out of the coffee shop.

William ran straight to the Falls and as soon as he was sure he was out of sight, he shifted and let Sebastian take over.

Sebastian suddenly stopped and looked around nervously, smelling the air, “someone else is here,” he told William. “We need to be careful”, he said as they walked ever so quietly around the hills. As they approached the top of the Falls, they noticed two other werewolves playfully running around the falls.

“This cannot be”, said William, “but then, we are also in wolf form, have I been lied to all these years? Can wolves shift in daytime? Why would no-one ever tell us that,” but here, a couple of metres away from him, William saw two other wolves playing around.

Suddenly the two other wolves stopped playing, turned around and looked in the direction where William was hiding in the bushes. They looked at each other and started running away.

“We need to follow them and find out where they are from” said Sebastian, “we need answers!” William started running, but it was too late. He followed their scent as close as he could to the parking area, but all he could find was humans, enjoying the afternoon, especially since school has finished.

William walked into his house, and was greeted by Luna Delilah. “What are you going to do now that school is over,” she asked William.

“I am going to do my military service”, William responded, “I have to leave tomorrow morning at 6am to be ready to get the train.”

“Gabriel”, Luna Delilah called to her husband. “William has this silly idea that he will be leaving us tomorrow to go do military service,” she continued to say.

“Never,” shouted Alpha Gabriel at William, “you will not leave this house, leave this town, is that understood!”
