Chapter 3

1003 Words
As per usual, Beta Charles arrived to pick him up and take him home to Howick. It was an hour’s drive and all he could think of was seeing the pride from his parents. Seeing his brother and sister and sharing something good with them. They arrived at home just as the sun was setting and William could smell that his mother Luna Delilah have already prepared dinner. He could see a faint smile from her when he walked into the house, and his glimmer of hope grew, as Luna Delilah never showed any affection towards him in front of her husband and Alpha. Alpha Gabriel greeted William as sternly as always, but there was no sign of his siblings. He walked to his room to pack his things. He heard someone knock on his door and as he turned around he saw Gabriella. “Hello big brother,” Gabriella said with a big smile, and walked over to William and gave him a hug. It felt as if the years of being rejected, being the outcast just flowed out of his body. “Dinner is ready” Gabriella said, and took his hand as they walked to the dining room. William was greeted with a room full of people; there must have been around 50 people in the house. He noticed all of them were families with younger children, and he could also notice the love they showed towards their kids. He started to feel sad because he wished he could have that. “This is my oldest son, William,” he heard Alpha Gabriel tell the people in the room. Everyone looked at William in amazement and he heard one of the men ask his father, “Alpha Gabriel, not to be rude or anything, but we didn’t know you had another son. We thought Simon was your oldest and future Alpha.” “So these are all werewolves” William realized. “I didn’t know there were so many wolves in South Africa, not to even mention the small town of Howick,” William thought. “This is my oldest son,” said Alpha Gabriel, “but he is NOT your next Alpha”, as he emphasized the word NOT. “He is a mutt and is not to be spoken to, is that understood!” All the wolves bowed their heads in agreement, not wanting to upset their Alpha. All hope of this being a good weekend for William disappeared as he was sent back to his room. Later that evening, after everyone has left he heard his father calling him to his study. “You are to relinquish the future title of Alpha in front of the whole pack before your 18th birthday, is that clear” Alpha Gabriel snarled at him. “We cannot have a mutt as the next Alpha! Now go and eat the scraps I have left for you in the kitchen and return to your room.” As he entered his room, he couldn’t believe how his hopes could be destroyed so quickly, but little did he know this was just the beginning. Saturday morning William was rudely woken up by his father at 5 when he yanked him by his hair out of the bed. “My Chevy needs maintenance on it, and you are going to help me today, now get up and let’s start working” he growled at William. William got up and got dressed and found his father already working on the engine of the car. He looked at his son and said, “bring me the socket wrench, extension and size 13 socket, and be quick about it.” William turned and walked to the cabinet with tools, and got everything he asked for. Just before he turned around he felt this pain in his back and he heard metal falling on the floor. “I don’t have all day to wait for you mutt,” his father screamed at him. “Pick up the spanner from the floor and bring me what I asked for.” He could literally hear the hatred in his father’s voice and could see it flaring up in his eyes when he looked at William. William quickly walked over to his father and handed him the tools, and that was just the start of his bad weekend. Everything William did, was wrong, everything he said was wrong, it was the longest day of his life, and he was so thankful when they finally finished working on the Chevy, thinking that he could go clean up and have something to eat. “Clean this mess you made mutt”, his father said. “Don’t think you will be spending time at the dinner table, you will get your scraps in your room later.” After he finished cleaning up, had a shower, he noticed all the bruises on his upper body from all the times he was too slow, too dumb, to useless today with every spanner, brick, socket that was thrown at him. He quickly put on a shirt when he heard a knock on his door. It was Gabriella; “here is your dinner” she said, not looking at him, but at the floor. “What is wrong Gabriella” he asked? “Nothing” she said, but he could see tears starting to form in her eyes. “You know you can tell me anything” he said to her. “I know”, she said, “but I don’t want father to get mad at me again for talking to you or giving you a hug.” “I am sorry”, is all William could say, not wanting to believe what he just heard. I need to do something to help her he thought as he sat in his room alone, eating his food.
