Sunday morning he got yanked out of bed at 6am by his father. “Get up you worthless mutt,” he gnarled at William. “You need to go and help Beta Charles fix his water pump. They are waiting for you.”
As William walked over to Beta Charles’ house, he thought that he needed to talk to Beta Charles, maybe he could help me and my siblings, William thought. He entered the small holdings and walked down the road to the house. They had a long driveway to reach the house, on either side planted with Oak trees that created a canopy under which he walked. Everything seemed so peaceful walking down here.
“Beta Charles is waiting for you out back”, he heard his wife Margaret call to him. As he walked around the back, he saw their daughter Isabella in the back playing around. Before he could greet her, her mother called her in and reminded her that she is not to speak to him. “Another one of those days”, was all he could think as he saw Beta Charles waving at him from where he was busy working on the pump.
The day went quite quick and uneventful, and before William realised the sun started to set. “I have to get home,” he said to Beta Charles, I need to get back to school. Beta Charles just looked at William expressionless and said, “you are not going back to that school. You will be joining the local school here, where we have lots of wolves that can keep an eye on you, where you will feel and be treated like the mutt that you are.”
William ran home, and when he entered the house his father was looking at him in his usual manner, filled with disgust for seeing him. “I trust that Beta Charles kept you busy enough to forget about your ridiculous school,” he said. “Also”, he continued, “I hope that Beta Charles started his own personal education that I instructed him to do on you,” and William could see a smirk on his face when he emphasized the last sentence. “Now go to your room and stay there, and you need to be up at 5 and get ready for school. You will enjoy this new school” he said with a smile.
The next morning, all William could think of was, hoping in his deepest that this is all a dream, that he will be going back to Mt Drakensburg and be with his friends again, but unfortunately reality sunk in when he was dropped off at The Falls School.
He immediately recognised the children that were at their house the other night, and he also felt their rejection towards him, the looks they gave him.
“Let me take you to the Principals office”, Simon said, as he led the way through school. “Oh, and don’t even think of telling any of the kids we are family, you are not family, you are a mutt, and I am your future Alpha, and don’t forget that.” William could sense that he was totally under their fathers control and didn’t expect to get any brotherly love from him.
As William sat outside Principal Graham’s office, he saw another family walking in and asking the receptionist to see the Principal. “Please take a seat,” said the receptionist and gestured towards the open seats next to William. They sat down next to William and William heard them talking to each other about how this school looked so much better than the one they came from in Bethal, a small town in Mpumalanga, South Africa. “Hopefully the kids here are better behaved”, he heard the woman ask her husband. “I wouldn’t want Kelly to be treated the way she used to be in her old school” she said.
“William” he heard Principal Grahams call his name, “please come in.”
As he entered the office, he recognised Principal Grahams as the wolf that spoke to his father when he arrived.
“So, you are the rejected mutt Alpha”, William heard the Principal say. “You must have done something horrible to deserve that, but let me tell you something, here at The Falls, we do not tolerate disrespectful behaviour. We are a disciplined school and all matters regarding to wolves will not be done in the open, as we are a mixed school with humans also. You are to be obedient, respectful and quiet when it comes to anything and everything. If you so much as cross any line of disrespect to anyone, talk to any student, or even attempt to look at them, we will deal with this in whatever manner we deem necessary. We have the full support of our Alpha in this regard. Is that understood!”
“Yes sir,” is all William could say before Principal Grahams continued, “here is your schedule, now get going and don’t let me see you again in my office.”
As he hurried out to his first class, the new couple was shown into the Principals office, and he couldn’t wonder where their daughter Kelly is, as she was not with them.
