CHAPTER EIGHT Eric hit the ground hard, the wind knocked from his body. Bright sunlight blinded him. He braced for attack, but none came. Eric felt raw with anxiety and anger. Nancy was gone. His mind was consumed by the last image of her as the beast knocked them apart. She could be anywhere, lost in the currents of time. He’d failed to protect her. Now, she was all alone, and it was his fault. His head and skin burned, as though his blood was boiling him alive. His vision blurred. He punched the ground where he’d landed and a cloud of sand shot up in his face, shocking him from his anger. This wasn't getting him anywhere.
