“Is it done then?”
“Yes, boss. He believed it.”
“Good. Pick Cherry up and get out of the country until things cool off here. Make sure you guys aren’t tailed. You guys did well.”
“Thank you, boss.”
Theo hung up the phone. Crooked cops always believed they were untouchable once they got back on their turf. Little did he know that Theo had eyes and ears in every single mob family. The moment the agent crawled back into his hole, Theo would activate his little mole in the snake brood.
Theo massaged the back of his tense neck, groaning slightly. Theo and Dorian knew of each other growing up, but never crossed paths. Dorian was older, closer to his brother’s age, but he was a recluse and kept out of the social scene. Theo didn’t know much about Dorian except that he had a contradictory personality. He was said to be a good lover and a womanizer, both gracious and cruel. All in all, Theo knew nothing about Dorian except for his insatiable ambition.
For now, it was safer for Jason to be associated with Venom. If all went well, he would take out Dorian and no one would try to unmask Ace again; but if he failed, well, no one but him in Venom knew who Ace was so Jason would be safe regardless.
Theo sighed heavily and chewed on his lower lip. He needed something to take off the edge. Pulling out his cell phone he swiped over to voicemail and searched for his daily comfort. He decided he would call Tania back after everything was all settled, however long that took.

Monday came around and everyone filed into the office elevator uniformly like ants. Barreling in like an oversized beetle, Connie crammed herself into the general elevator mindlessly, jostling a few bodies in her wake.
She stared ahead with bleary eyes, her makeup caked on to mask the dark circles, the result of a restless night. Last evening, when they pulled off of each other, breathless and hazy-eyed, Jason immediately took her home. Connie chewed on her lower lip as she thought about it– part of her was glad Jason did the right thing but the other majority of her was disappointed it didn’t escalate to something more steamy.
I’m such a slut.
She sighed and glanced down with a flushed face. When everyone had finally exited the elevator, Connie scanned her badge and pressed the button to reach the CEO level. It was time to face the music.
Once she walked into the office she found Jason quietly working at his desk, face red like a tomato. It was good to see she wasn’t the only one affected by last night’s confessions.
“Good morning, Jason.”
“Good morning…”
“How did you sleep last night?”
“Hm, not too well. I had to stand in a cold shower for quite some time.”
Connie blushed at the implication. “I didn’t sleep too well either,” she confessed softly.
Jason met her eyes shyly. “So, is it safe to assume we’re dating now?”
Connie shifted her eyes downward and nodded. Jason smiled and rose from his seat, walking over he took her in his arms and planted a soft kiss on her forehead.
“I shouldn’t be doing this in the office but I’m just so happy.”
Connie beamed and looked into his smiling eyes. “Let’s keep our dating thing between the two of us. I don’t want anyone in the office to know.”
Jason nodded in agreement. “That’d be for the best. We can act the way we always do. So, how do we spend time together? You live so far away…”
Connie thought for a while and asked in a soft voice, “Is your old offer still on the table?”
“Of course.”
The answer came without hesitation as if he was thinking the same thing.
Connie licked her lips and bowed her head, resting her forehead on his hard chest. “Maybe it won’t be so bad.”
Jason nuzzled the top of her head and held her tight, unwilling to let go.
Though he didn’t have much of a choice when the door swung open.
“Jason! I was…uh.”
Connie, startled by Johnson’s sudden intrusion, pulled away abruptly.
“Don’t you ever knock?” Jason’s gruff voice was laced with dissatisfaction.
Johnson, on the other hand, had a knowing smile on his face. Nodding cheerfully at Connie he strode into the room and sat down on the guest chair in front of Jason’s desk.
Looking around the room he commented happily, “I think we need more furniture in here. It’s so bare. Maybe a large sofa, leather, of course, it’d be easy to clean up.”
Connie flushed at the insinuation and stormed out of the room.
Jason glared at his brother. “Shut it before I kick you out.”
“Why? Isn’t this just a fling?”
“I’m not you. This is serious.”
Johnson sat up straight with a stern look. “You can’t be. She’s not even in our circle. How much do you know about her anyway? What is she after? You know just how important it is to find the right match, you don’t want to end up regretting it like…”
Jason cut him off. “That’s why I am pursuing her and not some socialite. I don’t want to end up like Mom and Dad. I want to be with someone I love.”
“That’s why I said, no!” Johnson roared, “Don’t be like Dad and marry some bimbo with a Cinderella dream! Find someone from our circle, like Mom!”
“Listen to yourself. If Dad didn’t listen to our grandparents and stayed with his lover, Mom wouldn’t have been so hurt.”
Johnson stood up and stomped towards Jason until they were a mere inch apart. He seethed, enunciating every word slowly, “Are you taking that witch’s side?”
Jason snorted. “No. I’m just saying, I’m in a similar position but I’m not an i***t like Dad and Connie is nothing like that woman. Why can’t I love the woman of my choosing?”
“Because she’s not good enough for you!”
“No, she’s everything to me. If you can’t see that then just look away and mind your own business. Don’t ruin things for me or I swear I’ll never talk to you again.”
Johnson gritted his teeth and closed his eyes. “Fine. Do whatever you want.”
Johnson stormed to the door and then paused. “I just came to tell you that we’re so close to the end. Don’t lose sight of what is important.”
“I won't.”
“Good.” Johnson opened the door and slammed it shut behind him.
Jason sighed and walked to the door. He had to find Connie and explain things to her before she got the wrong idea.
