Blurb

They say the Alpha's wife ran away with a rogue. They are wrong. For three years, I have been locked in a silver cage, forced to bleed for my brother-in-law's greed. But the night I escaped, I took his only heir with me. Now, I'm back. Not as the broken Luna they remember, but as a masked bounty hunter. I will destroy his pack, ruin his name, and make him beg for death. But first, I have to get through my husband—the man who threw me away, and the only man who can set my soul on fire."

The Earring
The diamond earring in my husband's coat didn't belong to me. I stood in the grand walk-in closet of the Alpha’s suite, the heavy wool coat clutched in my trembling hands. The scent of pine, cedarwood, and the sharp winter air he brought in from the borders and something distinctly female clung to the fabric. It was our third wedding anniversary. For three years, I had played the part of the dutiful, silent Luna. I had smiled when the pack elders looked at me with pity. I had ignored the whispers that followed me down the halls of the packhouse. For three years, I had played the part of the dutiful, silent Luna. I had smiled when the pack elders looked at me with pity. I had ignored the whispers that followed me down the halls of the packhouse. I had endured the cold shoulder, the empty bed, and the whispers of the pack. They said Alpha Kaelen was a monster, a man made of ice. They said he had only married me for the political alliance with my father’s pack, and that he couldn't stand the sight of me. Yet I still loved him, how ironic. I had spent three years loving a ghost, hoping he would eventually turn around and see me. I had built a whole cathedral of lies around our marriage, and a single piece of jewelry had just burned it to the ground. I didn't cry. The tears I had shed for Kaelen had dried up months ago. Instead, a cold, numbing feeling washed over me. My wolf, Ember buried deep in my chest, let out a low, painful howl before falling entirely silent. She was done begging for scraps of affection. Never again. I dropped the coat onto the floor. I walked out of the closet, my bare feet silent against the polished hardwood , I walked past the massive king-sized bed we had never shared, and stopped in front of the full-length mirror. I looked at the pale, tired woman staring back at me. The woman staring back at me looked exhausted. My dark hair was pulled back in a severe knot, my skin pale against the high collar of my conservative dress. I was twenty-three, but I felt a hundred years old. "Happy anniversary, Liana," I whispered my voice barely a breath . "You're done." Tonight, I was supposed to host a lavish dinner for the pack elders to celebrate our union of three years. I was supposed to stand at Kaelen’s side, smile prettily, and pretend that everything was fine while the entire pack watched us. Instead, I was going to leave him. But before I walked out of that door and filed for divorce, I was going to reclaim a piece of myself. I walked to the back of my wardrobe, pushed aside the rows of pale, modest silks, and pulled out a garment bag hidden in the shadow. I unzipped it. Inside was a dress I had bought months ago on a reckless impulse. It was a deep, bruised red, silk, and scandalously backless. I had never had the courage to wear it until now. I stripped out of my drab clothes and pulled the silk over my head. It slid over my skin like water. I pulled the pins from my hair, letting it fall in a dark, messy wave down my back. Finally, I reached into my vanity drawer and pulled out a black lace mask and grabbed my cloak. There was a rumor among the lower ranks of the pack. Deep in the neutral territory, past the borders, there was a gathering. A masquerade where wolves hid their faces and scents, where pack laws didn't exist, and where you could be anyone you wanted to be for one night. I had spent three years being the neglected, invisible wife. Tonight, I didn't want to be Liana. I didn't want to be a Luna. I wanted to be a stranger. I wanted to feel something. As I walked down the grand staircase of the packhouse, my brother-in-law, Damien, leaned against the banister. A smirk played on his lips. "Going out, sister-in-law?" he asked, his voice dripping with false concern. "Shouldn't you be preparing for the dinner? Kaelen will be so upset if his perfect little wife isn't there to play hostess." "Three years of wedded bliss I'm sure you wouldn't want to disappoint my brother" I stopped on the bottom step and looked at him. For three years, I had tolerated his snide comments and lingering stares. I had played nice. "Tell Kaelen I'm feeling unwell," I said, my voice surprisingly steady. I didn't look at him. I just kept walking toward the heavy oak doors. Damien stepped in front of me, blocking my path. He took a slow sip of his drink, his eyes trailing over the plunging neckline of my red dress. A dark, ugly curiosity flickered in them. "You don't look unwell, Liana. You look like you're looking for trouble." "Maybe I am," I replied. I finally met his gaze, and for a split second, I let him see the absolute coldness in my eyes. "Get out of my way, Damien." He blinked, clearly surprised by the lack of submission in my tone. He hesitated, then stepped aside. I pushed open the heavy oak doors and stepped out into the crisp night air. The moment the door clicked shut behind me, I felt the weight of the packhouse fall away. The masquerade was exactly as dangerous and intoxicating as I had imagined. It was held in an abandoned warehouse on the edge of rogue territory. The air was thick with the scent of perfumes, alcohol, and raw, unbridled pheromones. I moved through the crowd, keeping my mask firmly in place. my heart pounding against my ribs. I felt exposed, yet incredibly free. No one knew who I was. No one knew I was the Luna of the silver fang pack. I was just another masked wolf in the dark. I grabbed a glass of champagne from a passing tray, downed it in one go, and let the warmth spread through my chest. I was about to reach for another when a hand clamped down on my wrist. The grip was firm, possessive, and impossibly hot. The heat of his palm burned through the thin sleeve of my dress. I whipped my head around. A man stood behind me. his broad shoulders blocking out the dim lights of the room. He wore a heavy silver mask that covered the top half of his face, revealing only a sharp jawline and a mouth set in a hard, unforgiving line. His scent hit me like a physical blow. Pine. Cedarwood. Smoke. My wolf, who had been silent and dead just hours ago, suddenly snapped to attention, a violent shudder running through my body. She recognized him. She wanted him but it was impossible. It was a trick of the mind, a cruel hallucination brought on by three years of starvation. I tried to pull my wrist away, but he held tight. He pulled me closer until my chest was pressed against his, the heat from his body seeping through the thin fabric of my dress. "You shouldn't be here," the man growled, his voice a low, dangerous rumble that vibrated right through me. I tilted my chin up, refusing to be intimidated. "Neither should you. Let go of me." His jaw clenched. He didn't let go. Instead, he leaned down, his nose brushing against the curve of my neck. He inhaled deeply, and a low growl rumbled in his chest. "You smell like trouble," he murmured his lips brushing against my skin I should have pushed him away. I should have screamed. But the years of loneliness, the pain of the earring, and the overwhelming, intoxicating scent of this stranger had broken something inside me. I looked up into the dark eyes behind the mask. "Then maybe you should teach me a lesson." The air between us ignited. The next thing I knew, his hand moved from my wrist to the back of my neck, and his mouth crashed down on mine. It wasn't gentle. It was punishing, demanding, and it tasted like everything I had been starving for. I gasped against his lips, my hands fisting in the front of his shirt. He deepened the kiss, his tongue sweeping into my mouth, pinning me against the wall of the warehouse, his body a solid wall of muscle against mine. I didn't know who he was. I didn't care. For the first time in three years, I felt alive. I felt wanted. He broke the kiss just long enough to look down at me, his breathing ragged. The music shifted, the heavy bass fading into something slower, a dark, sensual rhythm that made the crowd sway. The stranger didn't ask, nor did he ask for permission, he pulled me flushed against him. "Dance with me," he commanded.
