Chapter 43The crowd had noticed that something had happened. The trio heard some of the comments. “Is he dead?” “That was quicker than I expected.” “So much for him becoming king.” “I was hoping to see a miracle.” Soon many of those in attendance wandered away. Most of the crowd paid no attention to two remaining men still lingering on their crosses. Jesus had undoubtedly been the main attraction. Soon, after most of the people had left, the soldiers broke the legs of the two men who were crucified alongside Jesus. Breaking the legs was done to speed up their deaths. With the legs broken, they could no longer use their legs to push their bodies upwards. Raising up took the stress of their chests and allowed them to breathe.
