Chapter 17 – Who’s that

1016 Words
Groaning out I lifted my phone looking at the screen as my door opened. My mother entering not so quietly, I tried to close my eyes that were burning from lack of sleep to pretend I was not awake. Closing the door behind herself, she strutted straight to my side reaching out her hand harshly stroking my arm to wake me. “Alice… Alice wake up.” Inwardly rolling my eyes I played along. “Mmm what?” Blinking my eyes open, she seemed to believe me as she appeared quite flustered. “What did Heath say to you last night?” My heart clutching in my chest, I was obviously taking too long to answer as only seconds later she prompted more specifically. “Did Heath talk about me? Did he say anything about that lady from his work?” “Uh what? What lady? … No he just told me to go to bed and get a good rest.” Her face tightening, I had never seen her so worked up about a male before. It was odd for her to say the least. An almost growl sounding under her breath, she looked down at her lap before raising her neck to look me clear in the face. Though it was still quite difficult to fully make her out as the room was quite dark. “Last night I found a filthy little thing clinging to Heath, she kissed his cheek right in front of me. He won’t even let me kiss him at the moment, does he even care how that makes me look. Last night was supposed to fix everything, you can’t even imagine how horny I am Alice.” Her frustration was so thick in the air I almost choked. “Mum!” My voice high pitched, I didn’t want to hear this, like I really didn’t want to hear this. “I’m going to work, if you spend any time at home with him, ask after me. An call Scott, he expects you back at work.” Without missing a beat or waiting for any response she left my room patting the covers twice with her hand. Hearing the front door a few minutes later, I was still thinking about everything that she had said. Another lady? I had never heard of her, was she the one who left the lipstick? And a fight with mother, did that mean they were going to break up soon? Though I could not help the small smile pulling at my lips thinking about how she made it clear they were not sleeping together. I know Heath had said he would not, but to hear it from her. My heart thudded wildly in my chest with happiness. That however in my mind did not mean he was forgiven for last night. Nor did I plan on being home when he woke up. Picking up my phone again I read the screen 6:07am. “Mmm.” Groaning out once again, I rolled to my back sitting up exhaustedly. Releasing a heavy breath, I could only imagine the bags under my eyes from the lack of sleep I got last night. Bringing my palms to my eyes, I could feel them stinging as I wiped at them softly. Dressing quickly as possible I almost ran out the door knowing that if I waited any longer Heath would be awake. I had no idea where I was going to go at this point, I just needed to get out. Stumbling out the front door, I shoved my hand into my handbag digging around for my keys. Not looking where I was going, I stopped in front of where I always park my car. Finally realizing I did not have my keys, I thought back to when I last had them remembering the car incident. f**k, Heath had parked my car, Heath had my keys last. Turning back toward the house I needed to hurry before he woke up. Hitting somewhat of a wall, I stopped to look at what I had hit. Reaching my hand up to rub my nose I noticed a figure. Jumping backing thinking Heath had followed me out of the house my eyes flickered to his face. Mistaken, Lathen stood in front of me with an amused expression covering his face. Raising my hand yet again to my face I rubbed my eyes to make sure he was really there. A chuckle escaping his lips, “did someone not get their ten hours?” Blinking my eyes, I still could not believe he was here, standing right there in front of me. After all the s**t that had been happening lately. Almost jumping forward, I could not help but throw my arms around him, pulling him closer. I was unable to even get a word out as I gripped his t-shirt holding as tightly as I could. Lathen’s hand petting my head gently I could feel the change in his body and he took a more gentle and concerned tone. “Hey… hey. Alice whatever it is, it’s okay.” Obviously trying to lighten the mood, “you don’t have a crush on me again do you? Because we went through this last time, I don’t do buns.” A smile pulling at my lips, I could not believe Lathen was back. He hand been gone a whole year, in fact he was not supposed to be back, not yet anyway. Pulling slightly back with a tone of excitement, “what are you doing here Lathen? Are you back?
