AURORA “Mate!” The word escaped my lips before I could stop myself. I stared at the man standing in front of me as excitement rushed through my body, overwhelming me with happiness. I couldn't believe it. I had finally found my mate after years of waiting. Tears gathered in my eyes, but this time, they were tears of joy. My mate. The person I had dreamed about for years was finally standing right in front of me. I stretched my hands toward him, wanting to touch him, but before I could reach him, he caught my wrist and yanked me forward. “Ah!” “What did you say? That I'm your mate?” He asked coldly, his brows furrowing as he stared down at me. “Ye-yes" I nodded eagerly, my heart racing with excitement. “You're my ma....” “Are you stupid? Do I look like someone who's happy to be your mate?” He snapped, his jaw tightening. My smile slowly disappeared. He's not happy? Does that means..... “No, he wouldn't reject us, I doubt that" Cici, my wolf, whispered inside my head, trying to reassure me and her words gave me a tiny bit of hope. “But.....why are you not happy?” I asked, my voice trembling as I searched his face for an answer. He let out a cold, humorless laugh and released my wrists. “Why would I be?” His eyes swept over me with obvious disgust. “There's nothing special about you, Aurora. I wouldn't want to waste my entire life with a pathetic girl like you. You're weak, and you're nowhere near my standards" My heart sank at his words. “Wha...what?” “You heard me, you're not what I want” He said coldly, taking a step closer. His words cut deeper than I expected. “So that's why you don't want me?.....Because I'm weak?” I whispered, my voice cracking. “Yes, but there's another reason, Aurora" The way he said my name made it sound like something disgusting. He moved closer to me with an hardened expression. “You want to know why I can't accept this bond?” He asked. I swallowed hard and nodded. “It's simple, I don't want you,” he said. “You reek. Your scent is disgusting, and everything about you irritates me. I can't imagine being mated to someone like you” He spat. My lips parted, but no words came out. I had never imagined my first meeting with my mate would be like this. I had waited so long, dreamed about him and loved the idea of him before I had even met him. And now he was looking at me as though I were beneath him. “But.....why don't you give me a chance?" I whispered, tears gathering at the brink of my eyes. “Please,” I begged, taking a shaky step towards him. “I'll do anything. I'll try harder, I'll....” “Stop begging!!!” His voice came out sharp as he held up a hand, his expression turning even colder. “No matter how hard you try, you will never become what I want. So don't embarrass yourself by begging for a chance” My chest tightened at his words. “Even if I gave you a thousand chances, you still wouldn't be enough,” he added, his lips curling into a cruel smile. “Aurora, stop begging him” Cici whispered, her voice trembling with pain. I wanted to.....I really wanted to. But this was my mate. The person I had waited for. How was I supposed to simply accept that he didn't want me? Then I heard laughter behind me. “Oh, poor Aurora" I froze. That voice, I knew that voice and slowly, I turned around. “Sarah?” She stood there with a smug smile on her face, one hand running through her hair as she approached me. “Yes, Sarah the queen of all queens” She replied with a mocking smile, tilting her head. “What are you doing here?” I couldn't help but ask “I'm here to witness the end of your little fantasy" She chuckled, stopping in front of me. She reached towards my cheek, but I immediately knocked her hand away. “Don't touch me,” I warned, glaring at her. Her smile faltered for a moment before she scoffed. “Fine. I wouldn't want to touch something filthy anyway” She said walking past me. My fingers curled into a tight fists. Sarah had once been my friend, my companion and someone I trusted, but that had ended a long time ago.....ever since the day she proved how much of a friend she was. I watched as she turned and walked straight towards Levi. Then she wrapped her arms around him. My breath caught at that moment because Levi didn't push her away. Instead, his arms settled around her waist, pulling her closer. And the expression on his face changed as the coldness disappeared. His eyes softened as he looked at her, filled with warmth and affection. Everything I had desperately hoped to see directed at me was given to Sarah. I stared at them in disbelief. No!!! This couldn't be happening. Sarah glanced at me over Levi's shoulder, a victorious smile slowly spreading across her face. “Still wondering why he doesn't want you?” she asked, releasing Levi and turning towards me. “Do you really think you stand a chance?” She let out a soft laugh, crossing her arms over her chest. “Have you not heard?” "Heard what??" “I, Sarah Brown, I'm going to be the next daughter-in-law of the great Gamma's family" She placed a hand against her chest, her smile becoming smug. My blood ran cold immediately. "W...what?” “That's right,” she replied, slipping her arm through Levi's. “I'm marrying him” I looked at Levi, desperately searching his face for a denial. “That's not true!!” I refused in believing that s**t. “It is, He chose me” Sarah quickly answered. “No...He wouldn't choose you over his true mate” I shook my head, my voice trembling. “Oh, Aurora, he already did” She murmured, shaking her head as her expression turned pitying. “Levi doesn't want you. He wants me insteas" She leaned closer, lowering her voice. I looked at him desperately. Hoping he would say something atleast or deny it. “Levi?” “She’s right,” he said, his expression remaining cold. The words destroyed the last piece of hope I had. So Sarah was right....she was saying the truth. “I don't want you, Aurora" He stepped towards me, his face emotionless. “Please...” I whispered, tears spilling freely down my cheeks. He stared at me for a long moment before finally speaking, "I, Levi Hawk of Silvermoon Pack, reject you, Aurora Sterling, as my mate” The pain hit me instantly. A scream tore through my throat as my knees gave out and I crashed onto the ground. "Ahhh!!!" “Aurora! It hurts!” Cici screamed inside my head. I clutched my chest as unbearable pain spread through my entire body. It felt as though something inside me was being ripped apart. “No...” I gasped, my body trembling violently. “Please... don't leave me” I begged, badly wanting him to stay with me. Levi turned away without another word. Sarah linked her arm with his, smiling as though she had just won something. “Let's go, hun!" She said sweetly, pulling him along as they walked away. I remained on the ground, broken and humiliated. Then whispers from nowhere began. “How pathetic” “What did she think was going to happen?” “She really thought Levi would accept her?” “I guess she thought she had gotten lucky and hit a trophy” Their laughters surrounded me. Where had all these people come from? I couldn't even lift my head, all I wanted was to disappear. I wanted the ground to swallow me whole. Then someone crouched beside me. “Here. Let me help you,” a deep voice said gently. Before I could protest, strong arms slipped beneath me and lifted me from the ground. I couldn't see his face because my tears had blurred everything. “You don't have to help me,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “I'm not worth helping” I swallowed painfully. “Please.... just put me down and go away!” I didn't want to live anymore. How was I supposed to face everyone after this? How would they look at me tomorrow? How many people would laugh? How many would whisper about me? How much longer could I survive this humiliation? My back eventually met something soft and warm as the stranger carefully lowered me. His arms slowly disappeared and the pain returned immediately. “Ahh!” I curled my hands around myself, clutching my stomach. “I'll take your pain away,” he said, his voice strangely calming. Cold fingers brushed against my lips and I didn't pull away. Just something about him made me feel safe. “How..." The rest of my question disappeared when his warm lips found mine. My eyes widened in shock at the impack. Warmth spread throughout my body as something warm and sweet passed down my throat. He was giving me something through the kiss. Slowly, the unbearable pain began to disappear as the liquid stopped passing through my throat. His lips lingered for another moment before he finally pulled away. “Now sleep,” he murmured, brushing his fingers gently across my forehead. “You'll be alright when you wake up" He said in reassurance I tried to see his face, but everything remained blurry. Is it still my tears that's affecting me? Or is there something else keeping me from seeing him clearly? “Thank you,” I whispered then darkness finally took me.
