Bound by a secret

Amelia’s POV She’s gone! she’s gone! Those were the words going round on the day of my mothers death My mother died 8 years ago and I was 10 when it happened. I remember that day but not very clearly. It was a rainy day and it was cold. Aunt Victoria took me to my room and told me to sleep but I asked her where my mother was and she told me that my mother was gone. Aunt Victoria raised me just the moment my mom died, she was loving, caring and she gave me everything I needed. There wasn’t a day where she didn’t give me anything I asked for even if she didn’t have much. But till this day, I ask her questions about my mom and she refuses to answer me. Aunt Victoria walked into my room with a basket full of clothes, she dropped it by the side of my room and came to sit with me on my bed.She asked me how I was going to celebrate my birthday that was coming up the next week. She asked me if I was invited about it and who was coming. I told her I invited all my friends and people at school. I thought to ask her about my mother again, hoping she had answers this time. I asked her if my mom would have been happy about my birthday, she looked at me and then I proceeded to ask her what my mother was when she was my age and why she never talked about her. Her eyes started wandering and she became uncomfortable. She sighed, kept quiet for a while and then she looked at me and told me that there are things about my mother that I may not want to know. Then I thought to myself what was so dangerous about my mother that I should not know about. Aunt Victoria gets up from my bed and leaves my room and before she left she went into my closet and brought out a picture and she takes it away. From then I decided that I’m going to find the truth myself. The next morning before school, I had breakfast and my aunt dropped me off at school. Before she left, she told me that everything was going to be okay and I shouldn’t worry about anything. I hugged her and went inside my class. I entered my classroom and saw my best friend, Maya. We knew each other from school and we became close ever since then. She was very funny and caring, and she always gave me good advice. After the first period, elena and I went for break and discussed the entire plot for my birthday that was coming up the next week. We decided to invite people from school, we went through all our classmates and we invited everyone, but we were still trying to decide if we wanted to invite someone. Damien Blackwood, one of my classmates who hated my guts. He always wanted to have fights with me and I didn’t know why sometimes even when we are placed in the same group for class work he always wanted to argue with me , maya looked at me and told me to invite him regardless I told he to send the invitations to him and we’ll wait to see if he comes for the birthday party we finished our snacks and break time was over so we went back to our classroom, on our way I kept on thinking of the conversation I had with my aunt the previous night and I became restless all of a sudden I tried to stop thinking about it but I just couldn’t I was just happy school was almost over and he was going home soon. The school bell rang indicating that school was over, I rushed to pack all my things into my bag and started heading home then I saw Damien approaching me in my head I was already wondering what he wanted this time. He looked at maya then looked at me then he said “I heard you’re having a birthday party next week” I looked at him weird and asked him where he heard it from then he said all our classmates have been talking about it, he went on to ask me if he was invited I looked at maya and then looked back at him and said “Why do you care” He looked serious this time and told me that he wants to be there and without reading any meaning to it i just told him that he was invited, he nod his head but before he walks away he asks he if my mother was ever married I was shocked, why would he ask me about my mother out of nowhere, Ati this time may had already left us and went on with her own business I asked him how he knew about my mother and he looked nervous, he then appologized and said he should never have asked but before he walked away I called him “Damien” He turned to look at me, i asked him what he knew and he told me nothing, immediately, he left me there with unanswered questions and walked away When I got home I met aunt Victoria making dinner i greeted her and went to my room to drop my bag and change from my school uniform but I still kept on thinking of what Damien said in school,I kept thinking of how Damien just asked about my mother out of nowhere. Before I slept, my cousin, Elena came into my room to call me for dinner and we talked a little before she left my room How are we planning your birthday, she asked I looked at her and told her I had invited some people from school and I already had my guest list. We talked about how I was reluctant to invite Damien Blackwood to the party and she asked me why and I told her just because I didn’t want to but then maya later convinced me to. She left my room and I followed her but before that I went to the place where aunt Victoria had taken that picture from and I found nothing there but old photos of my mother when she was young but I didn’t seem to understand anything there that may be linked to my mother’s death, I kept the photos and went downstairs to eat before I continued my search for answers
