12 Detroit: the American dream gone belly-up. Once our country’s fourth largest city, ripped apart by greedy businesses and granite racism and corrupt unions, and abandoned for jackals to gnaw the meat off her bones. Desperate families shelter in hollow-windowed half-burned homes that any civilized country would plow under. The city center only bustles because rich outsiders have taken advantage of the cheap real estate, and the only decent roads are the ones those rich outsiders take to their expensive private enclaves. The heat isn’t as horrid as Phoenix, but it comes with humidity so thick the air seems solid. Walking to the car rental feels like trudging through hot gelatin.
