CHAPTER 21The instant Linda vacated the house Barry made a call to Jenny Castle at the office. When he asked her if she had rung him earlier that afternoon, she promptly denied that she had. During her concerned enquiries after his health Barry pondered just who the woman might have been that had phoned him if it had not been Jenny. With a hastily delivered promise that he would call her back, Barry replaced the receiver thoughtfully. Thankfully he was not there to witness the flicker of disappointment crossing Jenny’s pretty face when he had chosen not to reciprocate her softly spoken, “love you Barry,” as if he had not heard, Jenny being further upset when he put the receiver down on her half finished sentence, ‘love’ being all she actually managed to squeeze out.
