CHAPTER 004.

FLASHLIGHT.

Kendra was folding her clothes when she heard her doorbell ring so loud. She was startled because she wasn't expecting a guest. “Who could that be?” she asked herself with so much worry on her face.

She walked towards the door, and as she looked through the peephole, surprisingly, it was Damian. It was a pleasant surprise. She opened the door and jumped on his body with so much excitement as he handed her a bouquet of fresh roses.

“Damian, thank you for the roses, and you didn't tell me you were coming, what a pleasant surprise!” she said with so much excitement in her voice while smelling her flowers. In her thoughts, he was just a perfect gentleman.

Kendra was inquisitive to find out the reason for his surprise visit as they walked towards the sitting room.” I’ve been so restless since the day you told me about the demise of your family, so I'm here so you could narrate exactly what happened on that day,” he told her in a deep masculine tone. She paused for a moment, as she tried to process what he said to her.

Kendra felt a glimpse of hope, and immediately she closed her eyes so she could have a flashback of what happened on that Day.

“It was a Thursday morning, and I was on a trip with my family from Manchester to London to spend the entire weekend because it was summer. We planned to visit the London Eye and Buckingham Palace as a family, to make the summer holiday a fun-filled one. My brother sat in front of the car with my father, while I sat behind with my mother. All of a sudden I heard a loud noise, and I couldn’t feel my body anymore. When my eyes were opened, all I saw was the ambulance and several persons in police uniforms. Then it dawned on me we just had an accident, from that moment I never saw my family again,” Kendra narrated with teary eyes.

She couldn’t hold back her tears, she cried uncontrollably as Damian walked up to her holding her so tight. He made her understand tears wouldn't resolve the challenges they are faced with and he promised to stand by her.

“I think we should get to work, first, we would have to visit Manchester and London again in search of your missing brother, with a new report because we would need the police too”, Damian said as he wiped her tears.

She looked at him with a very soft expression,” I am not Pauler, I truly care about you and I mean it, I have gotten so fond of you, and I won't let anyone tamper with your emotions or cause you pain again,” she promised, Damian’s heart melted, their hearts raced and they both reached out for a kiss spontaneously, they shared a gentle kiss as they were lost in a dreamy world, with the promise of a fresh start.

Despite the beautiful moment they had, the thought of Pauler clouded his mind, it couldn't justify the unsettling feeling that his past was haunting him and lurking in anguish. He was in a tug of war with his emotions. He held Kendra by her hands and wasn't ready to let go of it.

Damian reassured her with so much conviction in his heart, but a part of him was still scared of getting hurt again. He cheered her up and made her laugh while she shared interesting events of her childhood memories with him. He found her not only soft but so interesting to be with.

They spent hours laughing out loud, cracking jokes, and talking about childhood fantasies. They talked like they had known each other for decades. Their connection was so real and they talked with so much excitement.

At that point, he let her know he was the son of the famous billionaire Mr Dave. She couldn't believe her eyes, because Mr Dave was not just a famous billionaire, he was equally very powerful and respected.

She wondered the reason he decided to go disguised as a normal city boy, and he made her understand he wanted to live life like every normal person in society with a good experience of what it felt like considering his pursuit of happiness.

Kendra was lost in the thought of being in love with the famous billionaire’s son and how she didn't fit into his family class. She was a bit worried about the outcome of their relationship and the fear of the future despite the fact they were already in love.

Damian stared at her as he admired her charming personality and beauty, he knew he was already in love but he was being hunted by his past. His terrible experiences with Pauler saturated his mind again, knowing she was somewhere in the city, meddling with his family assets.

Immediately, his phone buzzed, it was a call from his mother, he kindly excused Immediately,he kindly excused himself and then stepped aside to speak to her. He sounded like there was an emergency, leaving Kendra worried and inquisitive. She wondered what the problem could be and wondered if it revolved around Pauler.

Damian walked towards her and kissed her on her forehead, he apologized and made her understand he had to leave because he had to see his mother as she called for him, and from the way she sounded, his presence was highly needed.

So, Kendra escorted Damian out of her flat, she gave him a warm hug, and he promised to tour the town with her. She didn't want that evening to end, she almost cried, as they bid each other farewell.

She walked back into her flat, still wondering how she had been with the famous billionaire’s son unknown to her. She picked up her bouquet of fresh flowers, unwrapped the roses, then cut the roses

and fixed them in a transparent jar filled halfway with water.

The thought of Damian’s identity was still a shocking revelation to her the remaining hours of the evening and she also wondered why he got an urgent call from home and what it was that brought their evening to a sudden end. She headed back to arranging her clothes in the wardrobe as she folded her clothes and placed them in a well-arranged manner.

Life is about to take an interesting twist for Kendra, she was already at a crossroads. Little did she know she was about to walk the path of self-realization, love, betrayal, pain, heartbreak, and despair.
