CHAPTER TWO

CHAPTER TWO A limousine packed at a beauty spot before the door suddenly opened. A woman shivering in the cold suddenly entered wearing a beautiful short dress with a skin top that made her look like she was nude as the red sexy dress was only up to the area just below her breast line. Maverick smiled briefly at her sight. “Thanks for coming!” “You don’t need to thank me. I am doing my job. This is what I get to be paid to do. Come winter snow or not, some of us have a reputation to keep,” said Dove. Maverick laughed briefly. “As the hottest sharpshooter?” “Of course, I will do your dirty work and you know what. I have increased the stakes. I want a huge cut. Now that I know why you want them gone,” she replied lighting a very long slim cigarette. “You know I am strict with smoking in here,” said Maverick. “Screw you! It is freezing.” “So, as I was saying. I want forty percent!” Maverick spit out the champagne in his mouth. “Forty percent? You must be shitting me, Dove!” “You are doing it for pure profit. So, since the risks are high, I want forty percent non-negotiable. Take it or leave it,” she said. Maverick sipped his champagne silently for a while. “I had no idea the bank could be so corrupt and above all greedy,” said Dove. She opened the window and blew the smoke out. “What can you do when someone steals something from you? Let that person go? Or you will try to get it back somehow.” “I don’t get you. How can you even talk about that, not that it is my business,” said Dove. “Damn it! Dove. Can’t you see what is happening here? We paid them loans that were written off over centuries.” He paused and sipped the champagne. “The new body of directors reckon the gold scriptures now belong to us.” Dove laughed. “You don’t get it, do you? Do you think that a cult that existed even before this world was created would simply give up their sole existence for you? If you knew what they do to people who want to lay their hands on the gold scriptures, then you would not be saying all that!” Maverick felt scared for the first time. “What are you saying?” “They sacrifice all people who want to steal the gold scriptures.” Maverick laughed. “Sacrifice people?” He laughed it off. Dove leaned toward him. “Do you know they invested trillions of dollars just to read what people are thinking in order to kill all those just thinking of stealing the gold scriptures?” Maverick looked haunted. “I have heard that they read the mind. I just thought you know like a tarot reader?” “No. They have developed technology just to read what people are thinking. Converting thoughts to text or now even to audio. Now, look at how many people, especially the old who have earphones.” “Maybe just listening to music?” “No, they are all listening for certain phrases. Say stealing, gold scriptures, etc. then a beep sound goes off and a message is sent to an available person to fully listen to the message and report straight away. They have the money and technology to do just that. Just imagine you are trying to put them out of business simply because it is the only profitable business there is. Imagine they powered all these banks. Imagine if it wasn’t for that gold scriptures’ gold where would you be? Do you think you will have made those trillion dollars? I am starting to think that they are behind the murder of the gatekeeper,” said Dove. “Murder of the gatekeeper?” Whispered Maverick. “But I thought that was Tomorrow’s World Order?” “I am just saying that look. You are making a kill here. The profits are way out of this world. For what it’s worth, I think you ought to do more. You are actually lucky it’s me if it was someone else, he or she could be asking for even 60%.” “60% then definitely we wouldn’t be doing business.” Dove laughed. “What is so funny?” She leaned toward him. “I know why you are doing this. It is not just for the profit. I know you want them to remain open forever. You damn know right that after the period they reckon the lease is over, they lock the gold scriptures. Losing you money and costing you more in new loans. So, to beat them and have the gold scriptures open forever. Meaning not paying any more loans and making money all the time. You decided to get rid of the keys. We are talking about innocent keys. Most of them orphans. Who would do that just for the money?” “It is not about money. We paid a fair price over the centuries for the value of the gold scriptures in written-off loans. It is not our fault that they squandered the money. We know for a fact that we paid the true face-value of the gold scriptures and they must be in our vault. Not in their cave for that matter.” “Seems you have a death wish. Even with these keys do you know that they are all guarded?” Maverick looked outside the limo. “Ok, forty percent, but I want a clean job. I don’t want anything coming back to bite us in the back.” The limo screeched its tires to a halt. Dove got out and walked like a supermodel before the limo’s engine roared to a start and disappeared around the corner. “I will be ready for you.” She pushed him away. David looked at them from afar. “She can’t be touched. David did protect her.” “Do you know why, really?” Asked Mat? “Honestly, I can’t buy it. She is a soldier.” “Makes only sense if she is,” the man whispered into Keaton’s ear, who instantly looked at her groin area. “Virgin huh?” Whispered Keaton. “That changes everything because we can simply take her to the Eye of the Devil’s Eye without anointing her and sacrifice her instead. That jams that seat in that it can’t be claimed.” “Why did David not raise this option?” “She might have lied to him,” replied Keaton. David looked at Keaton and his men. “Just wave at him and smile.” Keaton gathered his men around. “They are coming to kill us, and we are all as good as dead. As your leader, I pledge to do whatever I can to protect you all. Whatever I can to save your lives. Whatever I can to delay death. It’s tough. We also know that intense circumstances call for difficult decisions too.” Later. Stacey knocked on David’s office and entered in. He looked at her. “I sent my men to your uncle today,” he said. She looked shocked. “Damn it! How could you? After all, you promised. Remember?” She walked out fast, slamming the door. David followed her. “Stacey, come back here!” “No. David. Exactly what I mean that in the end, you will put a bullet in my head. You have no fear. Why my uncle?” “Let’s talk in private.” “Too late, that is what you should have said before you sent your men to kill my uncle.” “There is still time.” She stopped and followed him. “It was an honest mistake,” she pleaded. “My men believe that your uncle sold you out as a sacrificial lamb. That means they are just waiting for a perfect time to come for you. My men are always right with these things. I don’t want to know whether you are a virgin or not, but they only sacrifice virgins. My men believe that your uncle bought a share with the two thousand dollars he paid. This is what he told us. That means if we leave him alive after they sacrificed you. He can claim this seat, that will be a future problem for us. You understand?” “If he is out of the way, then you are safe. But if he lives, then he owes them a sacrifice that puts you at risk as well. You must understand that Keaton will do anything for his men.” “Maybe I just bloody blow my head off? I can’t believe everyone wants me dead. I am not bloody Jesus! To die for everyone and open doors for them. I will die as an assassin rather than a lamb to be sacrificed. I can die like a soldier one on one with your best man or Keaton. I have a bloody gun and am not afraid to use it!” She slammed the door and walked out. Somewhere in the city. President Rex and Hudson were in the office talking when there was a knock at the door. Hudson ignored the knock since he had told everyone not to be disturbed. “Sorry about that Mr. President, I won’t answer it as there is no one more important than you. Carry on Mr. President.” “As I was saying, we are near to world glory,” The instant phone-call interrupted him. “Maybe just answer and dismiss it so that we can’t keep being disturbed.” Angrily Hudson picked up the phone. “What did I tell you about disturbing us?” “Sir, there is a man to see you. He said that it’s important. A matter of life and death and you won’t regret it.” The President listened as Hudson had placed it on speaker. The two men locked eyes for a while. “Let him in!” A scruffy dressed man walked in, looking everywhere. “How can we help you?” He looked at the President and leaned toward Hudson and whispered. “No, what can I do for you?” “We are too busy so come back later. Usher!” “No, no, no. You need me. Now that you are one seat away. I have a solution to make you declare majority just in the next phase and initiate the ghost war to wipe out all opposition.” They looked at each other. The man took out a photo of the gold scriptures with him holding them. They all looked at each other. “Sorry to disappoint you. The golden scriptures are in our hands.” The man looked at the President. He squinted. “Mr. President. Okay never mind.” He said remembering his face. “There is no way you can declare a majority now even if you accumulate eighteen seats out of the twenty-four. That means gaining eighteen hours of darkness out of the twenty-four technically. But I know a way for you to just do that. But it will cost you?” The President looked at Hudson. “I am not following. Explain old man?” “Once you have eighteen seats, it’s a majority. That in most situations you will be the winners. But how can you claim that when they still have 6 seats and hours left?” “That my friend we don’t know,” replied Hudson. “That’s when I come in, for, I know a crucial secret. A secret worth dying for. A secret that will hand you victory on a plate and the kingdom of darkness outright!” “How much is this going to cost us?” “First, I will explain how that works. I have a key. To start the process of claiming the kingdom of darkness just at eighteen seats. Normally you would wait until you have all twenty-four seats but trust me. They will cling to these remaining 6 seats and fight to the death. This key is the answer. It’s hidden, but it exists. This is how it works. Once you have eighteen seats, I will show you the key. We take the key to the Eye of the Devil’s Eye Island and anoint it.” The man smiled. “This key will open the chapter of the golden scriptures relating to this, namely Chapter eighteen,” said the old man. Hudson walked to the window and looked outside. “Mr. President, that issue I told you that some gold scripture chapters won’t open.” The President looked at the man. “So, it was you who stole our gold scriptures and locked them now you want to blackmail us. Do you think we are stupid? Kill the bastard!” Shouted the President. “If you kill me, you will never know the key to the chapters.” He continued. “This is a safety and proactive plan in the gold scriptures. In that when a phase arrives. Instead of worrying and all that. A key or its owner will come to you and tell you an easy way to do things critical to success. The key will open the gold scripture chapter relating to this. You can read to prove what has been said is true. But the key or its owner is entitled to a share one twenty-fourth of the value of the gold scriptures.” “What? When you have stolen them in the first place? I don’t think so!” Shouted the President. “But there is a buy-out clause,” said the old man. “It’s true, Mr. President. These keys will come forward and offer advice for a share of the cake. It’s a way of speeding up things and rewarding their quick thinking.” “So, all these chapters of the gold scriptures we can’t open are already claimed?” Hudson nodded. “But he just said that we can buy them out at a fraction?” “So how many chapters are still locked?” Asked the President. “Six chapters,” replied Hudson. “Listen to me. Show us the key if you don’t, we will declare that you stole them in the first place, and you don’t get anything. So better to cooperate,” requested the president. “You get a down payment now and when you bring the key, then get the rest of the money. You know the deal. You get the money and go far away. You stay here, and my men will kill you and the key,” said Hudson. “How does this key work?” Asked the President. “As I said, if you get this key anointed that links it to the chapter it opens. In this case, chapter eighteen. Once that chapter is open. There is a quick solution to the problem at hand. The best part now...” He paused and smiled rubbing his hands. “This is because the key will void the remaining seats. That means that the system has only eighteen seats as all opposition’s six seats are wiped off. That triggers a system error. As the total number of seats becomes eighteen only a complete majority. So, the system acknowledges that you are the outright winners. But another system error triggers a reboot as the total number must be twenty-four corresponding to the number of hours per day. After rebooting, the system places what are called placeholders. Six of them as yours and not the oppositions’. So technically you will have twenty-four seats with eighteen occupied and six vacant ones and here is how it gets interesting. This is because all you must do now, is calling all the keys to come forward and claim the remaining six seats. That opens all the chapters in the gold scriptures. Once all opened this means the restoration of the kingdom of darkness. This triggers the devils’ ghosts that you can use to slaughter all opposition,” he said. The President smiled. “Does that mean we don’t need to find that woman? Evelina! Does that mean you can now simply allocate one seat to my nephew?” Asked the President. Hudson nodded. “Write him the check and send our men with him.” Said the President. “I object to that. That will void the key. I don’t need an escort for the safety of the key. The key might self-destruct,” protested the old man. “Okay go on your own but come back. Okay?” Miles away. Stacey’s uncle arrived home the happiest man ever with a six-digit bank account balance. A flashing message caught his eyes. “It’s Stacey phone me as soon as possible.” “How did you know that uncle is rich?” The man quickly took his gun and loaded it with bullets. He played the other message. “Uncle! Stay at home, I am on my way.” Two men instantly kicked the door open. He fired the gun in panic. “If you kill me, you will lose everything. I told your boss. Don’t shoot.” Surprised he got out in the open raising his hands up. “Be patient, tell your boss that I will bring the key when the time is right. Go back and tell him that.” The men looked at each other before opening fire. He fell and died. Miles away. Hudson could not stop pacing. This was the best news he had ever heard. The dream was more around the corner than anyone thought. Even Frederick had no idea what had just happened or about to happen. He could see the victory that he gathered his men just to keep an eye on Stacey’s uncle. He couldn’t believe having everything he wanted on a plate in front of him. Stacey cried driving the SUV to her uncle’s house. He was the only family member left and one who had brought her up like his own daughter. All had perished in mysterious circumstances. Instantly the phone rang. She looked at the caller’s identity. It was from David. She chucked the phone away, but it kept ringing. She picked it up and answered it swerving on the road. “What do you bloody want?” She cursed aloud. “It’s too late. They have sent assassins already. Your life is in danger. My men are right, you are the key to this next phase. Somehow you can trigger a quick victory for them. I just don’t know-how. I just had inside tips.” She cursed but continued driving until the SUV arrived. Her heart started pounding as she approached the house. She screamed and got out leaving the SUV’s door open and ran to the opened front door. Pulling and aiming her gun. The sounds of things being thrown around startled her. That she stopped and stealthily walked toward the window. She froze fear-struck as a sight of a man inside startled her. The man was Marson’s man the Devil’s Eyes. She felt traumatized. David had sent the men who killed her uncle and the men who were supposed to be doing this are here to rescue her. She knew they would not kill her. As long as chapter eighteen remains closed. She stealthily looked again. The man was going through her uncle’s stuff looking for something. Looking for the key? She thought as her heart started pounding. No one knew what the key looked like. They might be looking for a real key. She thought. It was confusing to all. The man had his gun on the table, but he was too busy searching for something. Stacey rolled in jumping to the side and shooting the man’s shoulder. “Step away from the gun before I shoot you. Now! I want answers, or you are dead!” She aimed. “What are you doing here?” “Your uncle has stolen the key to the golden scriptures, and we want it back!” “Key? What kind of key and what does this key do?” “I don’t know but it opens the gold scriptures so that somehow we claim the kingdom outright.” “Outright?” “Hey, I don’t know how I am not the boss. Why not ask him?” Said the man. “Useless I thought so.” She c****d the gun. “Okay, I will tell you. Don’t shoot! I heard this key will void all the remaining seats of the opposition.” She felt scared and frightened. She had a flashback of Keaton agitated wanting to shoot her. It made sense. David and his team were doomed. All his men were right, she was bad news. She recalled David talking about hanging on to the few remaining seats and fighting till the end. Her heart started pounding swiftly. What if David now knows this? She thought to herself. That will be instant death for her. This would be the last chance to mount a challenge they have. She started crying realizing that the stakes have been raised significantly. Her death or fate has been brought closer than she had thought. If David knew that her role was to void all their seats. Surely, he would drive there to kill her himself. She started shaking uncontrollably with fear. She felt sick. The man noticed and slowly retrieved a knife while she was pondering all this. She turned and aimed at him just the second he hid the knife. “What are they going to do to this key after? Sacrifice it or kill it?” The man looked surprised. “You are the key?” Said the man shocked pointing at her. “A key is a person? They sent me here looking for a real key. You are the key?” “Shut up! I don’t know what you are talking about.” “Wait until they realize that you are the key?” The man quickly retrieved a phone. “Don’t worry they won’t kill you; you have an important job to do.” “I wouldn’t do that?” A bullet rocketed in the house. “We need you alive, so no harm befalls you now that we know the key is a human being. You must be afraid of your team.” The man started laughing. “It’s so unbelievable how things have turned. Your team is now the ones who want you dead! To have any title challenge.” He bursts into laughter. Instantly he threw the dagger at Stacey who flipped to the side. The man somersaulted into the air twisting and turning as Stacey opened fire with two guns. The third somersault saw Stacey take him down, hitting the ground hard. A huge thumb made her drop the hands holding the guns. Crying she walked toward her uncle and covered his body. Somewhere in the city. Hudson entered the President’s office. “I heard you let the chance slip away. I told you to send him with our men. Why did you overrule my command?” “I wanted to make him relax and kill him after we got the key.” The President looked agitated. “You are a greedy son of a b***h. Your priority should be to get the key and not the money. Now see we might not find the key.” “We can still do it; we can still hunt the remaining keys. My men are on it right now.” “Damn it! Hudson, you blew a golden chance. Declare all the keys that are still missing as stolen and issue a reward for their recovery. We need this system up and running. Kill all once you open the scriptures!” “That can push all into hiding. Instead, maybe we can offer rewards for all those who come forward to claim their share but when they do, they don’t get anything!” “Okay, I don’t care, just get the bloody key and declare victory!” The President walked to the window and looked outside. “What seemed to be the problem?” “My nephew hasn’t been anointed yet, and the system is about to be completed. How will all this affect him?” “I know Mr. President and I am on it.” “Have they found that lady yet? What is her name again?” “Not yet? Evelina. They are still looking!” “Everything about you is a screw-up, Hudson. You are very reactive. You prefer things to get out of control first then chase. It doesn’t work that way. You should have sent men to deal with this.” “I did Mr. President.” “Maybe I will give you a hand. We must reissue new warnings.” “I don’t like your tactics making this a national issue. Too much scrutiny. My men are trained to be discreet. Some of us still have a reputation to maintain.” “If my nephew doesn’t get his share do you think you will honestly have a reputation to protect?” Asked the President. Later that evening Hudson exhaustedly sat in the lounge and switched to the news channel. “A once presumed hostage. A few weeks ago, when a one Alex shot dead special agents. Is now believed to be the master minder. The one behind all this. She is believed to be armed and dangerous. Her name is Evelina…”
