Where did we all go wrong?

"The Bite" follows Brea, a 28-year-old freelance photographer whose life takes a sharp turn one fateful night. During a solitary road trip through a desolate highway, Brea’s quiet journey is interrupted when she accidentally strikes a bloodied, terrified woman who seems to have appeared from thin air. The woman, hunted by a mysterious organization, pleads for Brea's help. Soon, Brea finds herself fleeing alongside her, catapulted into a dangerous conspiracy involving sinister experiments and a catastrophic virus spreading across the land.

The virus—an unnatural creation—endows survivors with extraordinary abilities or turns them into terrifying, flesh-hungry monsters. As Brea is thrust into a world collapsing into chaos, she encounters Milo, a mute little boy with psychic powers who holds the key to unlocking the organization’s secrets. Together, they are forced into an alliance with Jack, a cunning ex-bodyguard with erratic behavior and hidden motives. Brea remains wary of Jack, but their survival depends on fragile trust as they attempt to expose the truth behind the experiment and the virus ravaging the world.

The Bite is a gripping blend of survival, mystery, and horror, where trust is a luxury, and betrayal can come from even the most trusted allies. Brea’s journey is a profound transformation—from a wandering loner to a fierce protector of a found family, ready to fight against the looming darkness.

Can they stop the chaos before it consumes them all, or will the virus and its creators reshape the future of humanity forever? The stakes are high, and the urgency is palpable as Brea and her allies race against time to prevent a global catastrophe.

Chapter 1
Breanna's tired eyes strained against the darkness of the road as her best friend's voice crackled through the phone. "Come on, Bree, show that road who's boss. It's just you and the asphalt, and we both know you've got the coolest playlist to keep you company." Weary from the journey, Breanna mustered a weak smile, the fatigue evident in her eyes. "Yeah, the road might be winning this round, but my playlist is on fire." The night cloaked everything in shadows, and the long drive began to blur into an exhausting journey. Breanna's friend, ever the cheerleader, chimed in, "You know, if this was a movie, you'd be the badass protagonist on a mission. And remember, the hero always faces a few bumps in the road, metaphorical and literal!" Breanna chuckled, the tension easing slightly. "Well, let's hope my plot twist doesn't involve hitting mysterious strangers." Her friend laughed through the earpiece, "Hey, if it does, just make sure she's a supernatural ally and not the villain. We need some plot twists, not a horror movie!" In the midst of her fatigue, a figure materialized on the road ahead. Panic seized Breanna, and it was too late to swerve or brake. The sickening thud echoed through the night as she collided with the stranger. "f**k!" Her friend's concerned voice crackled through the phone. "What's wrong?" Trembling, Breanna wiped her face and stumbled out of the car. Her shaky knees carried her to the front, where a ghastly sight awaited. "F-f**k!" Her friend, alarmed, pressed, "What is it, Bree? Are you okay?" Breanna's voice quivered, "I-I...think I hit someone." "What?!" The shock reverberated through the phone, mirroring the haunting reality on the desolate road. "Are you okay?" "Y-Yes" Breanna's hands trembled as she beheld the woman sprawled on the cold asphalt, a shocking contrast to the night's silence. The stranger's body language screamed desperation and fear, accentuated by her blood-stained clothes and disheveled hair. Her injured bare feet told a silent tale of a chaotic escape. "F-f**k!" Panicking, Breanna stammered, "Oh my god, are you okay?" The woman's wild eyes met Breanna's, a mix of terror and silent pleading. She reached out a trembling hand towards Breanna, blood smearing across her pale skin. "Please... help me. Take me away," she begged in a hoarse whisper. "Bree, what's wrong? Did I heard someone asking for help?" Breanna's heart raced, torn between fear and compassion. "W-What happened to you?" The mysterious woman, refusing to disclose any information, clung to Breanna's sleeve, her grip desperate. "Take me away! Take me away! Please! Please! Please!" As Breanna tried to guide her towards the car, her friend's voice echoed through the phone, a worried undertone seeping in. "Bree, this feels wrong. You need to get out of there." Fear crept up Breanna's spine, but her empathy overruled caution. "I can't just leave her like this. She needs help." "s**t!" Her friend's voice pleaded, "Bree, please, think about it. We don't know what she's involved in. You might be in danger too." Ignoring the warnings, Breanna insisted on helping the injured woman into her car. The mysterious stranger remained silent, her gaze fixed on the shadows that seemed to dance around them. "s**t! You're crazy, Brea!" "I'm f*****g crazy" As the car sped away from the chilling scene, Breanna's focus shifted to the dark road ahead, but the eerie silence was soon shattered by the distant roar of an engine. Glancing in the rearview mirror, her eyes widened as the headlights of another vehicle emerged, tailing her with unsettling persistence. "F-f**k!" Her friend's voice crackled through the earpiece, "Bree, is everything okay?" Breanna's hands tightened on the steering wheel as she felt the weight of an impending threat. "No, something's not right. There's a car following me." "s**t! I told you this going to happened!" Her friend, trying to infuse humor into the tense situation, said, "Well, if it's a ghost car, just ask Casper for directions." "Very funny..." Breanna managed a nervous laugh, but the tension in the air lingered. The pursuing car drew closer, its headlights casting ominous shadows on the road. Her friend's encouragement continued, "You got this, Bree. Just keep driving. Maybe they're lost too." The injured woman besides her, however, had become increasingly agitated. Her eyes darted between Breanna and the pursuing car, her voice rising in a frantic chant, "I can't go back there! I can't go back there!" Breanna's gaze flickered between the woman and the road, her heart pounding. The car behind her bumped into hers, sending a shockwave through the vehicle. Panic surged as she swerved to maintain control. Her friend's voice urgently warned, "Bree, you need to lose them! Find a way to shake them off!" In the darkness, Breanna's driving turned into a high-stakes chase. The injured woman seemed to be a catalyst for the escalating danger. Her wild, chanting words added to the chaos as Breanna navigated the winding road, trying to outmaneuver the persistent pursuer. The pursuing car continued its relentless pursuit, bumping into Breanna's car with increasing aggression. Adrenaline surged through her veins, and her tired eyes strained to discern the twists and turns of the road ahead. Her friend's voice echoed encouragement, "Don't stop, Bree! Just keep going!" Suddenly, with a surge of relief, the headlights of the pursuing car disappeared from the rearview mirror. Breanna, feeling a momentary respite, let out a shaky breath. "I think I lost them," she whispered, her focus now on the unfamiliar road unfolding ahead. Her friend's voice cheered through the earpiece, "That's it, Bree! They couldn't keep up with your driving skills. You're the queen of escape!" A sense of accomplishment flickered in Breanna's eyes, but the triumph was short-lived. The road ahead seemed darker, the trees thicker, and the air heavier. She realized she was entering a place she didn't recognize. A sudden panic overcame the injured woman. She clutched at her tangled hair, her eyes wide with terror. "No! No! This is the wrong direction! You're going to the wrong direction!" Breanna's heart sank. She tried to reassure the woman, "I don't know where I am, but I'll find a way out. We just need to stay calm." As if on cue, the signal on her phone began to deteriorate. Her friend's voice, once a lifeline through the earpiece, now crackled and faded. Breanna desperately pressed the phone to her ear, trying to maintain contact. "Sarah, are you there?!" she pleaded, but the signal betrayed her, leaving her in eerie silence. "F-Fuck.." She gritted her teeth and gripped on the steering wheel. With a growing sense of isolation, Breanna scanned the area for signs of civilization. The injured woman's panic amplified, her voice now a desperate wail. "We're going back! I can't go back there! You have to turn around!" Breanna's breath quickened as the unfamiliar road twisted and turned, casting eerie shadows beneath the thick canopy of trees. The sense of isolation deepened, intensified by the injured woman's growing hysteria. "I can't go back there!" the woman wailed, her voice echoing through the confined space of the car. Her fingers clawed at the air, desperately seeking control over the situation. Breanna, wrestling with the steering wheel, tried to soothe her. "I don't know where we are, but we'll find a way out, okay? Just stay calm." However, the road seemed to conspire against her. Without her friend's reassuring voice, Breanna felt a growing unease, an uncertainty that gnawed at her determination. The injured woman's desperation escalated, and suddenly, she lunged forward, her hands gripping the steering wheel. "No! We can't go back!" she screamed, her eyes wide with a manic intensity. In the struggle for control, the car swerved dangerously, veering towards the edge of the road. Breanna fought to regain command, her knuckles white on the steering wheel. "Hold on, we'll figure this out!" she shouted, her voice drowned by the woman's relentless chanting. As the car careened through the darkened forest, the pursuing vehicle reappeared behind them, an ominous presence in the rearview mirror. Breanna's pulse quickened, and she accelerated, pushing the car to its limits. The winding road became a frenzied battleground, her only focus on escaping the relentless pursuer. The injured woman, possessed by fear, continued her desperate attempt to redirect the car and bite her on the arm. "Wha- "Stop! Are you crazy!" Breanna, torn between avoiding the pursuing vehicle and preventing a potential crash, fought a losing battle. The woman's grip on the steering wheel tightened, and in a moment of chaos, Breanna swerved sharply to the right, crashing through the underbrush and into a thicket of bushes. 'BANG!' Breanna shook off the disorientation, feeling a dull ache in her head from the impact. She assessed the situation, realizing that their pursuers were closing in. With a surge of adrenaline, she tried to open the car door, only to find it jammed from the crash. The injured woman, seemingly composed now, spoke with an unsettling calmness, "They're coming. We can't let them take us back there. We can't." Breanna, still grappling with the car door, heard the distant rustle of footsteps. Shadows emerged from the darkened forest, revealing ominous figures closing in on them. Panic tightened its grip, and Breanna knew she had to act quickly. Summoning strength, she kicked open the door just as the first of the pursuers reached the crash site. Breanna emerged from the car, ready to confront the encroaching threat. The injured woman, beside her, also rose, her eyes harboring a mixture of fear and determination. Suddenly, figures emerged from the darkness - men in dark attire, their faces concealed. Breanna's instincts screamed danger, and she knew she had to defend herself and the injured woman...or run. "Who are you? What do you want?" she demanded, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and defiance. The men remained silent, closing in with deliberate steps. Breanna's eyes darted between them, her muscles tense and ready for action. The injured woman, still under the spell of some unknown force, stood motionless behind her. "S-Stop! Don't come closer!" The men advanced and Breanna braced herself, her mind racing through possibilities. She had to fight back, had to find a way out of this surreal nightmare. With a sudden burst of adrenaline, she lunged at the nearest assailant, attempting to fend them off. "Wha-" In the struggle, the injured woman's vacant eyes flickered with a momentary spark of awareness. With surprising strength, she leaped forward, sinking her teeth into the arm of one of the men. A yelp of pain escaped the assailant as he tried to pry her off. "f**k!" Breanna, seizing the opportunity, tried to make a run for it, weaving through the darkened trees. The pursuers, however, were relentless, closing in with swift and purposeful strides. Suddenly, a sharp pain erupted in Breanna's side. She looked down to see a tranquilizer dart embedded in her flesh. The world around her blurred as the sedative took effect. Staggering, she fought to stay on her feet, but her limbs grew heavy, and darkness encroached upon her vision. As Breanna slumped to the forest floor, she overheard snippets of the pursuers' conversation before losing consciousness. Their words echoed in her mind like a haunting prelude to an unknown fate. "Secure them. We can't afford any more surprises. The extraction team is on its way." The shadows of the forest closed in, swallowing her consciousness as she succumbed to the tranquilizer's effects. Breanna's last fleeting thought was a desperate hope for answers, for escape, in the enigmatic and supernatural web that had entangled her on this dark, mysterious road.
