ADEN'S POV.
My beta Alex, his mate Sonia and I rode in one SUV to the company. It was the routine every morning as we worked at the same company. Alex as the vice president, and Sonia as the CEO.
They were both very capable and serious about their jobs. I had to make sure the company stands firm on its feet.
After losing my parent in that attack eight years ago, I vowed to do my best to keep the rest of my pack members safe and happy. I want to be an even better Alpha than my Dad.
I know keeping Isabel in my pack is dangerous, but I can't seem to throw her out yet. I needed her to reject me too so I won't feel any guilt when I throw her out of my pack.
I was seated at the back seat of the car, and Alex and his mate were at the front. I was busy pressing on my phone and ignoring both of them, until I heard Sonia's voice.
"Alpha," that drew me out of my concentration, and I glanced at her. She was staring straight ahead of her as she said, "what you did to Isabel wasn't right."
Alex sighed tiredly like he had expected her to say that, and I rolled my eyes in annoyance. "Don't start Sonia!"
"But you know am right!" She went on stubbornly, "I remember you told her that you liked a lot of sugar in your coffee when she served it to you without any sugar. I know you don't like her, but your cruelty towards her is becoming too much."
"Babe, it's wrong of you to question the Alpha." Alex put in carefully.
"Well, I only feel sorry for her." Sonia mumbled sadly.
"You don't have to feel sorry for Isabel. She's my mate. I'll do whatever I want with her, so I advice you to mind your business Sonia." My anger and annoyance caused my Alpha tone to slip out, and I heard a faint whimper from Sonia.
"Yes Alpha," she replied with her head lowered in submission.
There was a moment of silence before Alex spoke again. "But Alpha, you know Alpha Josh of the Bluemoon pack would be visiting our pack soon. He surely would not like it if he sees Isabel being maltreated. Wh- what excuse are you going to give him?"
I ignored Alex words, despite knowing he was right. Josh would definitely be angry if he sees Isabel being used as a maid. I know how close they were as kids, and I doubt their relationship would change even now that they are all grown up.
It doesn't really matter to me now if they used to be close. I am the one who turned out to be Isabel's mate, and I'll decide what goes on in her life. Josh has no say in her life anymore, and that's that!
Besides if he finds out what she really is, I'm sure he would be happy that the moon goddess did not curse him to be with a monster like her.
***
I returned home from work in the early hours of the evening to find the pack house mostly empty. But I wasn't disturbed, because I knew some of them went on patrols, and the others probably went out on their own.
I headed upstairs to my study to settle a few pack businesses before going to bed, but I stopped in my track when I caught sight of Isabel cleaning the hallway with a mop.
She hasn't noticed me yet, and I took a few moment to stare at her.
She was indeed very beautiful. Her hair was long and shiny like a sunflower, her eyes the perfect shade of blue. I couldn't help losing my breath at the sight of her. She was so different from the dark haired monster who won't stop tormenting me.
But all the same, I know she is one and the same person, and that's the fact that prevents me from ever accepting her.
She finally noticed me standing there and stopped. For a moment, all we did was stare at each other. The tension was thick in the air, and I could still feel the faint whisper of the matebond. It made me want to pull Isabel into my arms and mark her as mine.
I quickly looked away from her in disgust. She's a monster, a danger to my pack! She's a f*****g demon! Always pulling me to her like an iron to magnet. There is no way I would ever give in to her witchcraft. There is no way I'm ever going to fall into her trap.
I made to walk past her, but she quickly said. "Aden, can we talk?"
I stopped in my tracks against my will. My fist clenched in annoyance at myself. Why can't I ever resist that stupid beautiful voice of hers? I curse this stupid matebond for making me feel this way.
I turned to face her with a cold expression even though my heart was screaming at me not to do anything to hurt her.
"I told you not to call me by my name," I gritted out harshly, ignoring the hurt look that crossed her face at my tone.
She lowered her head in submission, "sorry Alpha."
I ignored the guilt in my heart and said quickly, "whatever you have to say, make it quick!"
I heard the sound of her gulping before she said. "I- is it true that Josh is visiting the pack?"
Jealousy burned deep within me, and my expression morphed into anger. Why does she want to know that? Does she still like him?
I know I already rejected her, but isn't it shameless to ask her mate about another man?
"Don't even think you are allowed anywhere close to him when he gets here!" I snapped in anger.
"What?" Isabel eyes were filled with shock.
"I said I don't want you anywhere close to Josh when he gets here! I want you to stay away from him. Hide yourself from him! Don't let him see you!"
Isabel opened and closed her mouth. She was at loss for words. She must surely be wondering what my reasons are for saying that. I was not sure either, but I know I don't want the two of them getting close to each other. I blame this stupid matebond for it.
"But Alpha, I don't understand. Josh is my friend. You know that more than anyone else, so why would you stop me from seeing my friend?" Her voice broke at the end of her sentence, and I was almost moved with pity for her, but I remembered what she is and my heart hardened again.
"I'm stopping you because I want to. You are nothing here in my pack Isabel, so don't think you can ever be close to Josh and I again. Stay away from him, or you will not like the consequences."
I turn away to leave, but she spoke again in a tone filled with so much pain. "Why are you doing this to me Aden? Why do you hate me so much? What have I ever done to you?"
I closed my eyes thinking back to eight years ago.
The liar!
She knows exactly what she have done to me, to my pack, to my parents! She's a pretender, an evil demon!
Nevertheless, it won't hurt playing this game with her. As long as she pretends not to know the reason I hate her so much, I will also keep my mouth shut.
"If you can't figure it out on your own, then there is nothing I have to say to you." I walked away without waiting for any more words from her.
She is a danger to my pack, and this is the only way I could think of protecting my pack memebers.
As long as she does not reject me, she will suffer!
