CHAPTER 1.
JAIRUS POV.
There was a tension in the air, one that could be cut open even with a butter knife. The three elders of the demon clan were all seated around the wide table, watching ourselves with caution and malice. It was pretty obvious that this little court is divided, and there was heavy dislike between us.
Frustrated with the silence and the tension in the air, Erebus, a demon with shiny black hair and pure black eyes stood up from his seat. His nose was held high proudly. His expression was stern, and it was obvious that he wanted to say something unpleasant.
"This discussion isn't supposed to cause an argument," he announced in his powerful booming voice. "Our race is supposed to be the most powerful in the whole world. The other creatures hates us. It's only right that we overpower them and rule the world."
"By ruling the world, you mean killing the other creatures of the world and turning them into slaves?" I spoke up in disagreement. "We are fine as long as we remain on our lane. There is no reason to rule the world!"
Erebus ignored me and faced Lord Armin. "Don't you realize what this means Lord Armin? That child is the key to unlocking the armies of the underworld. With them our race would be unstoppable. We could rule the world Lord Armin!"
I stared at Lord Armin with pleading eyes, "my Lord, we do not have to rule the world as Erebus says. We have lived in peace for so long among our people. Why bother starting a tiring war?"
"The other creatures of the world hates us!!" Erebus screamed. "It is time we show them that we are rulers. We are not supposed to be the ones in hiding. After so many years, we finally found the key to rule the world, and you want us to do nothing with it?!"
"A power that great should not be released for selfish reasons Erebus! It would ruin the world you so much want to rule!" I screamed back at him in rage.
"Think rationally Jairus!" Erebus screamed again, his black eyes growing darker. "The whole world will be in our hands!"
"That's enough!" Lord Armin screamed in a powerful voice that shut us both up immediately. His red eyes gleamed in the dim lighted room to show his irritation. The dark energy flowing around him was enough to show his anger.
Erebus needed no one telling him before he sat down.
Lord Armin waited a second for total silence to settle in the court before speaking, "I will have to agree with Jairus. Using that child as a weapon would not only be dangerous to the world, but also to us. It is way too powerful for even us demons to control."
"My Lord, we will find a way to control it!"
"No Erebus!" Lord Armin rebuked coldly, "we are living in peace, and that's enough for us. Let us leave things as they are!"
I shot Erebus a victorious smirk. Everyone knew how power hungry he is. He obviously wishes to be the leader of the demon clan, but if Erebus had been the leader, the demon clan would have perished long ago.
"I knew you would say this," Erebus spoke up looking defeated, "but I was prepared for your answer." He glanced at Lord Armin with a dark smile. His black eyes were glinting with mischief. "You were never fit to be our Lord, Armin, and I have convinced the other demons to turn against you!"
Shadows of black cloaked, faceless figures started to appear all around us. I quickly stood up in alert, and stepped closer to Lord Armin ready to protect him with my life.
"Are you out of your mind Erebus?! This is treason!" I screamed at him.
"I don't think so," Erebus disagreed as he stood up from his seat. "It is merely fighting for what I believe in," he effortlessly pulled off his cloak and flunged it aside revealing a well built body covered in dark tattoos. He stretched out his hand, and a smoke of dark energy twirled around his fingers, taking the shape of a long shiny sword made of steel. "For me to restore glory to the demon clan, I would have to get a weakling like Lord Armin out of my way!"
"Do you really believe you can beat me?" Lord Armin asked calmly. His gleaming red eyes were fixed on Erebus. He doesn't look at all phased by the other demons that had surrounded us.
To answer Lord Armin's question, the tattoos on Erebus body began to glow like flames of fire.
I couldn't hold back a gasp, "Erebus, you cursed yourself with the powers of the underworld flames! Why would you go so far?"
Erebus smirked, "like I said Jairus, I am merely fighting for what I believe in," his dark eyes brightened into lighter colors of burning flames to match his tattoos. With this new powers of his, he would be equal match with Lord Armin.
Yet still unfazed, Lord Armin stood up calmly from his seat. He didn't even look in my direction as he addressed me, "you must get the child and protect her."
My eyes widened in disbelief, "I can't leave you here with him my Lord. He is cursed and..."
"I can handle it Jairus!!" Lord Armin's tone held no room for argument. "You have a new mission. Protect the child, and never let Erebus get his hands on her." His red eyes finally met my dark ones, "do not fail me!"
My non existent heart twisted in pain. This is the first mission ever given to me by Lord Armin.
I cannot afford to fail him.
"Yes my Lord."
Lord Armin stretched out his hand in a similar way like Erebus did earlier, and a silver shiny spare appeared in his hand. The chairs we were seated on earlier, faded into dark smoky clouds along with the table to give them room to fight.
"Go!" He commanded, and rushed to attack Erebus. The two were a blur as they battled against each other, and I wasted no time standing there.
The other demons surrounded me and tried to stop me, but I also summoned my sacred sword and attacked.
I was trained by Lord Armin himself, so it wasn't hard for me to disable them and race out of the court room.
I teleported to the dark room of evil where the weapon was kept. The baby was sleeping peacefully on the alter, and the crystals around her glowed brightly.
Quickly, I performed the ritual to invoke her body and soul into my spiritual necklace in order for me to escape easily with her.
Some demons were still trying to stop me, but I fought with all my strength and managed to escape.
However, the moment the sky became as red as blood, I knew that Lord Armin was dead.
Now it's up to me to keep this deadly weapon away from Erebus.
