The Pretence

Ebube was foolish enough to pretend to be sick once to get her mother's attention and love. Oge who was always sick usually get her treatments at a clinic near their mothers store and Ebube would go with them sometimes. Their mother would always buy a lot of fruits and juices for Oge. one day, Ebube decided it was high time she got sick herself. she pretended to be sick and insisted to get her treatment at the same clinic her sister goes believing her mother will get her all the things she usually bought for her sister whenever they receive the clinic.
On their trip to the clinic, Ebube was made to walk by herself while their mother carried Oge on her back. she didn't care about that because what she really wanted was the fruits, juices and attention from their mother. getting to the clinic her mother decided she wants the doctor to give her injection rather than drugs. she knew Ebube heated injections. that got Ebube thinking her plan has failed for she suspected her mother has seen through her pretence.
Despite the injection that she took at the clinic her mother didn't make any attempt in buying anything for her even though she bought for her sister. that was the last time she tried something like that for she learnt her lesson and moved on.
Auntie Nenye visited her mother one day and said she wanted to take Ebube to her mother who lives in the village. Given the fact that Ebube's father seldomly visits his family due to the nature of his job as a trailer driver. He was always on the road most of the time so decision making was her mother's responsibility. Ebube agreed to go with Auntie Nenye when she was asked and so her mother gave her consent.
she left with auntie Nenye the next week to her village where she has no idea what awaits her or what will become of her in a few years time.
