Nikki and Jordan decided to investigate the crime scene near their school. They watched from a distance as Sherriff Darrien and his officers inspected, and taped it off. All they could see was a white sheet with what they assumed to be the corpse under it, and some black ashes. It looked like an odd murder, especially since it was a daylight murder. They tried to talk to some of the officers, but were seen as unimportant. They took notes and watched carefully. Suddenly Jordan started.
"Nikki, I have to get home. Grams is gonna have her foot up my butt if I'm any later."
Nikki nodded." Yeah, same. My gram pretends to be sweet when you're over, but shes freaking dead for crying out loud!"
Jordan chuckled. "See you later girl. "
Carrie trudged in her front door. The last place she ever wanted to be was home. She hoped her dad wasn't home, but he was. He came strutting out of the living room.
"Carrie, supper's done. I had to make it since you took your sweet time getting home."
Carrie sighed under her breath and set her bookbag down. "Sorry Dad."
He glared at her, and continued his daily rant session. "You're such a lazy girl. What would your mother think? Maybe that's why she died so early. She was ready to leave your butt behind. You worthless piece of scum-"
Suddenly he stopped, but Carrie was raging. Her hair turned into flames of fire, and fire engulfed her hands, and spread out from her feet.
"Would you just shut up for once" she shouted. Her anger was literally burning. "I am not worthless! I am not lazy! Mom didn't die because of me, she died because you couldn't save her. She died because instead of paying for her medical bills, you drank and gambled. You are the reason she died so soon!"
Carrie looked her father in the eyes. "You deserve to die." she said calmly. The flames ate the room around them, crackling and sizzling with her anger. Suddenly her voice was filled with strength.
"You deserve to burn!"
As she turned to walk out she grabbed her bookbag and let the flames devour the only father she ever knew. The one that would pay for his faults with death by fire.
