14 AVALANCHE Tanzaa wasn't keeping track of the map very much. Instead of leaping from place to place, she practiced using the weather patterns she sensed. She moved as something in the wind, formed from snow, crafted of the cold. She hardly ate, rarely camped, or spoke to the people she encountered in the villages. She wore a cloak so heavy no one could see her for what she was, a ghost of the night. Tanzaa moved with the winter, and the winter was at war. War loomed like an avalanche on her mind. She could not bear the thought that she had caused it. She carried with her a pang of frantic guilt like lead weights.
