Prologue
In the year 2002, the air reverberated with triumph as the figure atop the balcony raised their voice. "The Queen of Covens is dead!" The proclamation ignited a chorus of cheers from the gathered crowd. "Our allies have succeeded in destroying the covens loyal to the Royal Coven." The excitement surged as the news spread, a long-awaited victory finally within grasp. "We have waited long enough for this day; a few more years in the shadows won't matter. Right now, we hold the advantage. The royal bloodline that binds us to these lands is a secret known only to the dead. Yet an Alpha, allied with us, has warned of someone who knows and whose body remains unfound. We will operate from the darkness, with only a few designated to seek out this individual and the missing grandchildren of Alice Hansley!" The leader paused, relishing the echoed cheers of their people. As the noise began to fade, they dismissed the crowd and retreated from the balcony. "It's interesting that your people seem unbothered by the near extinction of their own kind," a familiar voice remarked from the shadows. "Crowley," the leader replied, keeping their tone neutral. "Let's raise a glass to our victory." They poured two glasses, but Crowley shook his head. "Alpha Leo lies under a spell cast by Fredrick Caster—not dead, merely incapacitated, and only one of his blood can dissolve the enchantment," he revealed. "Then why not break the spell? That Alpha is essential; he is the key to our success in this war if we wish to restore our master," the leader retorted, meeting Crowley’s gaze. Crowley stepped closer, his dark aura radiating power and instilling fear, though the leader fought to maintain composure amidst the sweat forming on their brow. "His life is now entwined with the royal lineage. In a moment of rage, he took Fredricks son's life and in return the damn warlock cast the spell. That means the only ones capable of lifting it are..." "His grandchildren," the leader finished, placing the bottle down with a frown. "What about his mate?" They leaned back in their chair. "Frances is missing. Reports indicate she wasn’t on the battlefield," Crowley explained. "While she could provide insight regarding the past, she is not useful to us now. However, I do know someone who can remove the spell, though the challenge lies with Alpha Leo's chosen mate, who remains unaware of the pact Leo and I formed. Currently, she has taken charge, as the next Alpha lies injured in their pack house," he grimaced. "I take it the other twin is still alive since you abducted her last year?" the leader inquired. "She might prove useful," Crowley admitted with a casual shrug. “She can’t break the spell?” Crowleys eyes narrowed, “The child is inexperienced with magic and hasn’t even learned any history surround it. But with my centuries of knowledge, she will perform any spell I ask her to.” "And where is Lucy now?" They arched a brow at the mention of the demon who nearly thwarted Crowley's plans during Alice's reign. "I cannot control her. She is likely sowing chaos wherever she roams. After years of imprisonment, I suspect she is plotting revenge against your kind. Her plans are always as our master wishes, it’s her nature. Lucy isn’t a team player, she is however I. It for the long run. Always one step ahead.”Crowley noted. "Remind me again why walking into the pack house and having the child dissolve the spell isn't feasible," the leader redirected the conversation. "Two reasons: that cunning Alpha has devised means to ward demons away from his pack house, and as I’ve said already, the child lacks experience with the needed spell. I will train her in ancient magics. Since she has no memories of being a royal, she is bound to become loyal to me," Crowley said with a note of pride. "I'll dispatch my finest to search for the remaining grandchildren and the Commander, was it?" "Waylon Moore," Crowley replied, teeth gritted at the mention. "I gather you hold a disdain for him," the leader chuckled. "That warlock infuriates me! He has evaded me for years despite my relentless pursuit. I believed using the twins would draw him out, yet it seems the spell works both ways. Alice knew when I took the child that I sought to ensnare Waylon. With her dying breath, she cast a forgotten spell, erasing Nora and all who knew her from memory. In a way, this works to our advantage, just as the queen’s death serves yours," Crowley faded off. The leader slammed their hands on the desk, finally unleashing their fury. "She is not my queen!" The demon laughed, undeterred. "You will locate Waylon," he commanded. "Why pursue him? The Alpha desires him dead, as he is the chosen mate of his fated partner. I want him dead too; Alice would have disclosed everything about us and our imprisonment. So, what is your motive?" the leader probed, feigning confidence. "I want something he possesses," Crowley’s voice dropped low, hinting at dark intentions. "He was close to Alice; she confided in him about what I seek." "Which is?" The leader demanded, draining the glass they had poured earlier. "You need not concern yourself with that," he replied tersely. "Just capture him alive. Unharmed. Warlocks don't heal. Deliver him to me beaten; that should suffice." The leader concealed their desire to scorn the demon. They needed Crowley’s alliance to exact their revenge. "Very well. In the meantime, how shall we address the werewolves without their Alpha's guidance? Will the Luna continue our agreement?" "I approached his beta, but his loyalty has shifted to the Luna now that his Alpha is unavailable. The Alpha’s son seemed the natural option, but he would never side with me while equally beholden to his mother," Crowley recounted, disdain evident in his tone. "Mutts," the leader scoffed. "Alpha Leo’s grandson is too young, yet I can manipulate him in due time. Once the opportunity arises, I’ll be ready," Crowley said, a sinister grin spreading across his face. "What if he refuses the deal his grandfather made?" the leader questioned, probing for contingency plans. "I will have him killed. It’s of no concern. I have a royal witch capable of performing a long-forgotten spell once executed by your ancestors," he reminded. "The same spell that has kept us imprisoned?" the leader grimaced. "I have numerous plans, and when the time is right, all will align perfectly," Crowley assured, retreating into the shadows from which he emerged. "Remember, keep Waylon alive." The leader savored the thought of freedom but acknowledged the dangers outside. The council remained oblivious to the fact that by supporting the wolves in defeating other covens, they inadvertently aided in their own liberation. They were also unaware of the Alpha's secret alliance with a demon, forged under a blood oath thanks to the demons cunning. A chuckle echoed through the empty room, a sound of resolve. If their plan succeeded, it would undoubtedly catch the council off guard, despite their history of the councils beginning. "Oh, Hecate.." the leader called out, hoping their goddess would hear. "You imprisoned our ancestors here, but we will liberate the one you fear of returning.. and he will come back." A centuries old promise forged in determination, one they were committed to fulfill.
