Chapter Three

I stared at the pile of paperwork being shoveled onto the table in front of me stunned. “Miss Anderson are you alright?” the attorney asked, his voice filled with concern as he stared at my stunned expression from across the glass table. He was a slender man, his well tailored suit accentuated his slender frame and broad shoulders. His salt and pepper hair swooped right above his warm hazel eyes. His lips pressed into a thin line of concern surrounded in a bed of a well manicured beard.  I looked up at him and straightened my shoulders pulling my lips into a polite smile “ yes sir, i just..” my eyes wavered down to the pile of paperwork in front of me, glued to a set of numbers as my voice trailed off. “ I'm going to assume you had no idea about your grandfather's accounts?” my stomach churned as my mouth became filled with saliva. Oh gosh please don't throw up.. I chanted in my head as I placed a hand on my stomach. “No.. he never talked about his finances with me..” my voice was very small as the words fell out of my mouth. He stood up from the glass table and walked across the room silently to a small silver food cart. He grabbed the clear glass pitcher that was beaming with condensation, lemon wedges floated atop ice as he poured water into a small square glass. Holding the glass in one hand he grabbed a pre-plated plate of fresh strawberries with a dollop of cream cheese on the side. With a soft smile he turned to me and stocked across the room placing both the plate and lemon water in front of me. “Maybe this will help with your stomach. You're starting to look a little green.” I gazed up at him as a small blush of embarrassment, and a hint of attraction to the older kind gentleman. “ Th-thank you..” I stammered out only further embarrassing myself in the process. He gave me a small grin and a wink before returning to his own chair across the table. I took a small sip of the cold water, admittedly my first sip of water for the day. I paused as the cool water filled my mouth and the cold from the now sweat dripping glass radiated through my arm. Flashes of last night's dream slammed into my head, I could almost feel the warm blood seeping from my wounded and frozen toes. Shivering lightly I shook myself out of it setting the glass down silently, the sweat dripped onto the glass table. “Miss Anderson, I just wanted to say that I am sorry for your loss. My father was your family's attorney until his very last breath, so I in turn took over the caseload. I feel like we are family just based on that. If you need anything at all you can call me any time.” he spoke to me in a way that i always imagined a father would his daughter. My chest felt as if it was growing tight and the lumb returned to my throat. I cleared my throat softly. “ Thank you for that.. Could you tell me how..um..” my eyes flicked down to the bank account document in front of me. He laughed softly “ He was playing the stock market for years, he also saved all of your grandmothers, and mothers inheritance to be transferred to you once he passed. Jack took care to make sure you were the only one listed in his will. You will have full ownership of his home, and the land as well.  He has stressed to my father that he wanted you taken care of, after he got his diagnoses a few years ago. . .” His voice trailed off as he spoke those last words as he watched my already confused expression become further confused as I furrowed my brows and full lips twisted slightly. “ He knew he had cancer.. Years ago..?” I said slowly as I became furious. He sat back in his chair and sighed. “ He really told you nothing? I'm so sorry you had to find out this way..” he spoke gently to me. I knew his apology was genuine. I grabbed the glass and took another gulp trying to swallow my emotions with it “It's fine where do i sign?” Setting my pen down on the glass table with a soft click, I placed the last bite of strawberry in my mouth. I watched as the attorney checked over all of the paperwork making a neat pile out of my mess of papers. He stood up and walked around to his large cherry wood desk and placed the papers next to his keyboard before grabbing a navy blue folder with orange trim. He walked around the table and set the folder in front of me before grabbing my dishes to return them to the bottom rack of the silver food cart. I opened the folder to take a peek at its contents, immediately laying eyes on a black bank card ready to be activated. “The deed to the house, the land and the bank account Mr Anderson had saved for you is all in there.” he took a small sip from a black coffee mug after he spoke, still standing next to the food cart. “So, just to confirm all of this is mine, and free to spend?” I asked sheepishly perring over at him as a smile grew across his face. He let out a small laugh. God he is so handsome I thought to myself. The midday rays poured in from the large windows behind him bathing him in light, making him resemble that of a god. my eyes wandered to his hands seeing a tanline of where a ring would be, before making my gaze return to his eyes to find that his hazel eyes now trailed up my pantyhose covered legs up and over my red pencil  skirt that had since hiked up slightly from sitting. I could feel his gaze travel along my body as if he was touching me. A quick knock at the door disrupted any thoughts about the incredibly handsome man oogleying me with his eyes. A curvy brunette entered “ Oh hello, sorry to interrupt, mr peters. I didn't know you were still with miss anderson..”her voice dripped of honey but her eyes stung of venom as she glared at me. Forcing a polite smile in the women's direction “ I was just about to go.” the attorney stalked across the room stopping to pick up the large pile of paperwork and handing the stack to the curvy women. I didn't miss her hands gliding across his skin when she took the stack from him. Or how his eyes lingered a second to long upon her cleavage. A twinge of disappointment was felt in my chest as the heat of earlyers thoughts disintegrated almost immediately. “We are almost finished here. “ He spoke softly to her before nodding and shutting the door behind her.  He cleared his throat. “ Sorry about that. But yes, to answer your previous question, it is all yours and you are free to spend it anyway you like.” He spoke stiffly now as I slowly stood up, a crimson curl fell out of my bun onto my collar bone, mr peters eyes followed the curl closely and even further down to my consverative neckline. Pig, I angrily thought to myself attempting to not roll my eyes at him. “Oh one more thing, dear.” I was gathering the folder up in my arms. “Hrm?” I looked at him questingly. He walked quickly back to this desk grabbing a green post-it note and a pen “ You're a nurse right?” he asked as he gazed up at me “ Yes, I just passed my boards about two weeks ago..why?” I questioned as I watched him scribble something down before passing me the note.                                                              Live in Nurse                                                                     Aurora  Orpheus                                                                                                                                    Call: 615-935-2275               I stared at the note in confusion, “Mr Peters ? What is this?” I asked softly “Another client of mine is looking for a live-in nurse to take care of a family member of theirs. They are willing to provide a room as well as an hourly wage to anyone willing to give 24 hour care.” he shoved his hands in his pockets yet somehow still managed to look graceful. “Oh wow, yes that's actually great, thank you!” he smiled and nodded, reaching his hand out towards me, i placed my hand in his as he gripped my hand firmly and shook it “It's my pleasure miss.anderson, congratulations on becoming a millionaire. Here let me walk you out..” he let go of my hand and opened the door as i followed him out of the office and down to the elevator.
