Chapter 1
As Finn's personal protector, I remained hidden at all times. He never asked me to watch him, nobody did for that matter. I couldn't help myself the day his beautiful mom came to the castle. Her aubrun hair laid in soft ringlets. I knew the baby she carried would be special. I had a feeling he would be the one to help save our realm. As a young fairy, my powers are limited, but I could travel between times. The modern world fascinated me, and this baby would need a protector. I silently attached myself and have followed him ever since. I watched Finn from the moment he was born. I followed him to kindergarten, grade school, high school, and now college. The trick is he doesn't know me, yet. I've never revealed myself to him. His mother always read about me to him. Telling him of all the myths and legends involving fairies. I was certain she knew I was there, but never acknowledged me. One night Finn was driving home from a football game. I sat perched on the roof, my favorite place to ride. Finn was always careful. Until a drunk driver came out of nowhere. Finn had no time to react, I barely did for that matter. Using my power I lifted Finn and his car into the air high enough for the car to go under us instead of hitting him. Everyone said he must have had a guardian angel. He does, Feathers, we hang out often, but that night was all me. Now I get to watch my little boy graduate. Instead of being invisible, I decided to show myself for once, but still needed to blend in. Feathers showed me different types of outfits appropriate for graduation. I chose a tea length pastel pink dress. But my ears stuck out and were too noticeable. I found a simple straw hat with a ribbon, just so happened to match my dress perfectly. I petitioned the elder fairies to have beautiful weather today. They made no promises, as usual, but the weather was perfect. There was a bright warm sun, not too hot, and a lovely spring breeze. Perfect weather to match an equally perfect day. "Finn Connors" The principal called out holding a small burgundy colored binder. Finn adjusted his robe and hat. I chuckled silently, "How funny he looks. Go little guy." I continued to watch as he proudly walked infront of so many people. My heart raced looking at him. Feathers sat silently perched on his shoulder still invisible. Even with distance, I could tell she was crying softly. We both worked hand in hand to keep him safe. Finn shook hands with the principal smiling from ear to ear. He beamed proudly clutching that small piece of paper. After everyone received their diplomas, ceremoniously they moved the tassel over to the other side. Some threw their hats, but Finn held his tight. Nobody but me knew he had a letter from his mom tucked safely inside. A reminder that she was with him, and a reminder I couldn't save him from that. His mom developed cancer. The doctors fought hard. I teamed up with Wings, her guardian angel, to try to help. This woman greatly impacted Finn, and the heart ache would crush him. We all tried, but in vain. The cancer eventually won. She wrote letters for Finn for all important days, High school graduation, his first job, College graduation, and even marriage. I knew where they were and would slip them to the table for him to find. He thought it was his dad, his dad thought it was his mom's spirit. I let them believe whichever, because at the end Finn's happiness is all that matters. I slowly walked up to Finn and His father. It's not the first time, but it is in a wild way. "Congratulations Finn!" I smiled. "Do I know you, Miss?" Finn's face was puzzled. He even scrunched his nose, I always loved that face. "I was in one of your English classes a couple years ago." I lied, but not completely. "I'm sorry I forgot your name." "Tiona" I smiled offering my hand "Nice to meet you again, Tiona. When do you graduate. I don't remember them calling your name." "I graduate next year hopefully." I really lied this time, but not really though. I mean I'd love to graduate, in the fairy realm. I just needed his help to do that. "What are you studying young lady?" His father interrupted my thoughts. "Oh, journalism. I want to tell stories of events and help write history." Again a close lie. Unfortunately fairies are tricksters, but we can not completely lie. We can deceive, and sometimes that includes close lies. I do want to write history just not in the way they think. "I'll be around for a bit still. I can help you sometime maybe." Finn would give the shirt off his back if he could. "That would be awesome." "What are you doing tomorrow?" "Nothing of importance." My heart leaped. Was he wanting to get to know me? "How about we meet at the cafe?" "Cafe, tomorrow around 3?" I asked hopeful "Perfect for me." Finn's blue eyes pierced soul. For a human he was gorgeous. My heart raced. I was going on a date not date with this wonderful human boy. A meeting between fairy and human was always tricky. Usually the humans were asking something from the fairies, but not this time. Nobody attempted to date a fairy. I looked just behind Finn, Feathers shook her head in disbelief. I knew later there would be a chat. "Well, I'll see you Tiona" The way he said my name made my heart melt. Sometimes I felt like I was falling in love, other times I was strictly a protector. Questions flooded of how would he react to the situation? How would he feel about me? "I'll see you then, Finn."
