Chapter 5: The First Fight

294 Words
Three days had passed. The same room. The same silence. The cold tray, the cold food. Orhaan came once every day. He said nothing. Just looked at her and left. As if she was an object. On the fourth night, the rain was heavy. The electricity was gone too. Zara gathered her courage. She kicked the door. "Is anyone there?! Water!" No answer. Ten minutes later, the lock clicked. Orhaan came in. A glass of water and a candle in his hand. He placed the glass on the table. "Don't make noise." Zara stood up angrily. "It's been three days I'm here. No talk, no reason. You don't even know me. Then why?!" Orhaan's eyes glinted in the dark. "Because my brother died because of you." Zara stepped back. "That's a lie! I did nothing!" Orhaan came closer. "I have proof. And until the punishment is complete, you will stay here. In my prison." Tears and anger both were in Zara's eyes. "Then kill me! Why keep me imprisoned?! This is cruelty!" "First time," Orhaan said softly, "you raised your voice at me." He placed the candle on the table. "I liked it." Zara was stunned. "Are you... are you crazy?" Orhaan smiled. But it was a cold smile. "Maybe. Now go to sleep. From tomorrow, you have work. My house chores. So you can pass the time." He was about to leave when Zara screamed, "I'm not your slave, Orhaan Khan!" Orhaan stopped. Turned back. "Not yet. But you will be." The door closed. The lock. Then silence again. Zara sat on the floor and cried. It was the first time she had fought. And the first time she had seen... behind Orhaan's anger, there was something else too. [End of Chapter 5]
