How it started
Chapter 1
I sat by the window, admiring the heavy rain as it poured down like the heavens was angry. I heard the door click open as footsteps approached me.
"Your family has called. They're coming to pick you up any moment from now." The person behind me spoke, Gerard.
"Mhmm." I hummed, I wanted to continue my beautiful sight without disturbance.
"Did you hear me?" Gerard asked, taking a step towards me. I nodded slowly, my eyes still fixed outside the window. The same old stupid talk they had used years ago, what makes them think I'll believe them this time?
"I would rather rot in here than go back to that hell hole" I said to myself as I walked back to the small dog house, picking up the sleeping dog.
"Aren't you happy that your family is coming?" Gerard asked, walking to the chair by the window and settling in it.
"Gerard, please I want to enjoy the view." I said, holding the dog and settling on the ground.
Gerard exhaled, shaking his head.
"I'll miss you when you are gone" Gerard spoke up again.
"You don't have to... I'm not going anywhere." I said, gently petting the dog.
Gerard looked away from me, facing the window.
"You can't tell anyone about the center." Gerard's voice came up again.
"And who would believe me?" I asked, Truly, who would believe me? We were back to silence for a few minutes until...
*Honk Honk*
The huge black cell-like gates screeched open as a black car drove in.
"They're here."
"Who are?" I asked, standing fast to my feet as I walked to the window.
NO! It can't be! That Mercedes Maybach cannot be mistaken...
My heart lumped at my throat as I saw my chauffeur coming out of the car.
"No... No, no, no!" I stuttered, moving backwards, backing away from the window.
"Sydney... Careful." Gerard tried to reach for me. I dodged him, trying to reach for the door but Gerard gripped me, pulling towards him.
"No! I can't go back! I won't go back! I would rather die!" I screamed then I paused.
Die! That's it! I looked at Gerard dead in the eye.
"Kill me!" I begged, kneeling on the ground, the dog jumped off my hand as I pressed my hands together.
"Sydney... I can't." Gerard said, holding me up.
"Please... I'm begging you. I can't go back there!" I begged and begged but he didn't budge.
A knock on the door weakened me. I sat down on the ground as the door flung open.
"I'm sorry Sydney... I can't." Gerard said as some guards walked in, scooping me up, alongside my dog away from the room.
My heart ached as I was pulled away; they cleaned me up and led me toward the chauffeur.
"Miss, It's time to leave." The chauffeur said. I stared, planning my next escape plan.
"She will try to kill herself or worse, both of you." I turned around to see Gerard.
"Tie her up." Guards emerged from behind him as they held me down pulling me harshly as they bound me with ropes and jacked me up into the car.
The chauffeur entered the car, looking at me through the rear view mirror and drove off. We stayed in silence as the chauffeur's eyes continued to fall on me. I knew I probably looked like a dung beetle on a pretty flower bed but I didn't care, all I cared about was a way to leave that hell hole before I even got there.
"Ms, Ms Melissa is engaged..." The chauffeur said. I was a bit surprised but I didn't show it.
"Oh..." I replied, looking around the car for something... anything that would cut this rope around me.
"She's engaged to Marcus Wales... Marcus Wales." he continued.
I didn't even speak a word, I continued searching desperately as my eyes landed outside. The familiar road and surrounding.
Oh NO!
"We are at the gates miss." The chauffeur said,
I wriggled in fear as memories of being with my family flooded my mind.
"No, No, No..." Cold sweat broke out on my forehead as I wriggled. The gates flung open, the mansion looking bright and towering. My stomach churned as I stared at the white mansion, old memories reopening. Old wounds and it hurt too much.
He drove, stopping directly at the mansion. I panicked, smashing my head on the chair as the chauffeur looked at me with fear.
"Miss, you are going to hurt yourself." He said coming down from the car to open the door for me.
He opened the door and tried to grab me.
"Don't touch me, I will hurt you..." I said, shaking in fear as he reached to untie me. I used my head to hit his nose, he pinched holding his nose as he stared at me like I was a psycho.
I mean, I did warn ‘em.
He slammed the door, rushing into the mansion
"Oh God! Why me?!"
I bit on the rope like a mad dog so I can get out of this place. I raised my eyes to see men in black suits, rushing towards the car. They opened the door, holding me down as they loosened the rope and roughly pulled me into the manor throwing me to the ground.
"Sydney Hawthorne, you are still causing trouble?"
I looked up to see my father, goosebumps crawled up on my skin. I quickly stood up from the ground.
"I'm causing trouble? Please, send me back, I would rather be in the correctional center than to be here." I said, anger growing fast in my heart.
"Are you crazy?! I don't think the correctional center disciplined you, I will definitely send you back" My father said as he pushed me to the ground.
Yes! Please send me back! I can't be with that DEVIL!
"No, honey. Stop!" My mother stepped in as she walked towards my father, holding his shoulder to calm him down.
Then she turned to me with soft eyes, eyes I remembered only existed to me when I was ten, they adopted stupid Melissa.
"My Sweet daughter, Sydney, you know why we sent you to the correctional center, it was for you to learn a lesson... you were too stubborn and defiant but... that's all in the past, okay?" She said, but it only made me laugh.
They all turned to me, looking like I was going psycho.
"Oh, Mother... Sweet mother. All in the past? Three years! Three long, miserable and terrible years suffering for no good reason? Suffering for existing and you opened your wretched mouth to tell me... That's all in the past?" Anger exploded through me as I stared up at her. She looked like she ate a ball of poop, why? Because I never spoke up.
I was a naive, stupid girl but that was then not now, not anymore.
Mother looked away, tucking her face into my father's suit.
"You... you have no respect for your mother now, isn't it?" My father asked, stuttering, shocked as well but I didn't care. I stood up heading up the stairs.
"Don't you walk out on our parents, How could you do that to mom? She's your own mother! I would never treat my own mother that way if I ever knew her." Melissa said, her usual pretentious act displaying. The stupid trick she used and is still using to earn sympathy.
"Oh Melissa! don't say that! You are my daughter too, only a better one than her." Mother hugged Melissa, wiping away crocodile tears.
"Melissa don't you think you're too old for this? Last I checked you were twenty-seven. That means you're thirty now and you are acting like a kindergarten baby?"
"Sydney behave yourself and shut up! Go to your room." My father, probably losing his mind by now yelled as I sprinted to my room.
"With pleasure..."
I went to the room I remembered was mine to see it was now different. The style and color choices were definitely Melissa's.
Even at thirty, she's this obsessed with... Pink? It's not bad but... urghh!
I went to the balcony to receive fresh air then I broke down, tears rolled down my eyes non-stop.
I wondered how my own biological parents would prefer their adopted daughter to me, how they would bring me out of the center after three years...
I heard the door click open, I wiped my eyes quickly, I heard heels clicking on the tiled floor followed by little barks of a puppy. I turned around to see it was Melissa, holding a fi
le and puppy... my file and my puppy.
"What are you doing with my puppy?" Melissa flashed an evil smirk as she held out the puppy towards me.
