Chapter Two KARA It was mid-morning by the time the truck rolled to a stop at the edge of the Thornwood settlement. The perimeter was surrounded by a high wall and, as we approached the gates, a couple of figures stationed in a watchtower turned around to look at us, then disappeared from view.
