Chapter 9

Elara's Pov

“ Raine, what happened?” I asked, my voice trembling.

“ It's urgent, I think you need to see this yourself.” She said, her voice filled with that stricken urgency.

“ I don't understand what you mean? What's so urgent?” I said, my voice low.

My muscles felt dense and weak from lack of use, I couldn't start running like hell now. The council leader said I could still rest for some time. And I think that should be my priority.

“Hey, just tell her whatever you want her to see here. She can't leave.” The pack doctor said, her voice stern.

“Know your place.” Raine growled, taking a step closer to the old doctor.

“Raine, stop that!” I snapped, my voice cutting through the room. “ I am weak, I can't leave from here.” I said.

I saw the slight disdain in her look, but I couldn't care less about it. I was in pain, and I couldn't risk my health for something not worth it. I need to keep myself much more alive and healthy for Kai and Luna. My kids need me, Damon needs me.

“Raine, just sort it out, I will be there.” I said, my voice stern.

“ Luna, I think it's best for you to be there yourself. It's about Alpha Kade.” She said, taking a step closer to me.

For a moment, my heart froze as I tried my best to analyse what she was saying. Kade? What was he doing? I lowered my gaze for a moment, thinking for myself what he might be capable of.

My head snapped back up, I watched her tense shoulder. I could see her chest rise and fall. The way those sweat slowly cascaded down her cheeks. Now, I realized something might be truly wrong. She can't look so tense and devastated if it's all a lie.

“ What's Kade doing?” I asked, my voice low.

And for one moment, I felt a surge of energy burst through me. I could feel it, my strength was back. Thank goodness.

“ He’s taking Kai and Luna away.” She said,

My heart skipped a beat. “ What?” I yelled.

Almost immediately, I jumped out of the bed. And as soon as my legs met the cold marble, I felt a chill run down my spine. My thigh vibrated for one second. And the other? It felt loose, not heavy. My vision blurred, I quickly grabbed the bed’s rail.

And as soon as the weariness disappeared, I felt my strength coming back. A slight spark ignited inside of me. I could feel the earth again.

The sterile bitter scent of chemicals filled my nose. I didn't miss it. At that moment, I felt my wolf cooed inside of me. A spark of rage ignited.

I stood straight, almost immediately, I jerked out the tubes inside of me. As I was about to take a step, the doctor stood in my way.

“ You need to rest, Luna.” She said, spreading her hands widely, as if blocking me from leaving the room. And yes, she was.

“ My pups’ lives are on the line,” I said, my voice trembling.

She stared at me for a second before finally giving up. But, she wasn't down so easily. As I dashed out through the ward's brown door, she followed behind my back. And Raine? Raine was doing the same as well.

As I dashed through the hospital's white hallway, I could feel a gaze pinned down on me. Even the flower vase on every corner was staring. I could feel it.

I didn't stop, I just kept running…. As soon as I burst out of the hospital's hallway. I heard my wolf's howl in my head. And that was when it hit me hard, I could transform into my wolf now.

Almost immediately, pain shot through my veins. “Ahh!” A raw guttural sound leapt out my throat as the chill cracks of bones filled the air.

In the next second, I was down on all fours. My paws hit the solid tarred floor hard. The musky damp smell filled my nose, and the watery grassy smell could not be avoided either.

My wolf raised its head to the sky, a loud howl leapt out its throat. It was sharp, loud, piercing like a formidable blade. As we ran, the air also swivelled down my hair. I could feel it, I could sense it. The world. Kai, Luna, I am coming…

It didn't take long before I bursted into the palace, the great sparkly marble in front of me appeared more like a dark one. Almost immediately, I began walking into the palace. My eyes danced in the socket as my gaze swept through the great hall.

I stood there waiting for Raine to arrive, so she could lead the way. And in the next second she did. She walked past me as we headed out through the other door that leads towards the northern park.

I quickly followed her…

The pack had four doors on the four walls, each of them leading to different parts of the pack. And this one led to the northern park. A place where the pack kids often gather to play, I could remember the time when rogues attacked the park in the middle of the pack. It was brutal, and led to the death of younglings….

As soon as we entered the park, my jaw dropped, stunned. I couldn't believe the thing in front of me. How did this even happen?

Kade was standing there, perfectly fine like nothing had happened. No dagger in his chest, no blood stained on the same tuxedo he wore this morning. Everything was fine.

I had expected him to be in bandages and in new clothes, because of the injuries from the fire. I turned to look at Damon, and to my utmost surprise. He was also very stable, the paleness on his face had suddenly disappeared.

My wolf shook its head for a moment, hoping for clarity. But, it was still the same. They were still fine. Images from the fire filled my mind like it had happened minutes ago. I pictured the way Damon lied flat and Kade? He was in his own blood.

Then it hit me hard, Raine was also lying slumped on the floor as well. Like she was really slumped on the floor, unconscious. How did it happen? What happened? Was it all a lie?

I lowered my head for a second, raising my head again, letting out a deep sigh. I didn't understand any of these, it happened so fast. And I am questioning my sanity.

I was about to turn when Raine dropped a cloak on my wolf. And immediately, I transformed back into my human form. I frowned, the bright red in my cheek all flushed. As soon as I turned back, about to head out of the park, I realized the council head was right there all along.

“ Nice to have Mr. Wilson here in the palace with us.” I said, a wide smile tugged across my lips.

“ I know you want answers,” he said, his voice cold. “Right?” He asked.

“ What do you mean?” I asked.

At that moment, I turned back to look at Damon and Kade. I couldn't open my arms, so I just walked up to them.

I couldn't help but feel a shiver run down my spine as the awkwardness in my pups grew stronger. Kai and Luna just kept staring at me, they lost their old vibes.

“ The whole scenario.” I heard Wilson's voice from behind me.

“ I would be grateful,” I said.

I raised my head to look at Damon, my eyes fixated on his eye balls. Those blue piercing eyes, I loved seeing them. It reminds me of the day we first met.

“ How are you dear?” He said, lowering his head to kiss me.

And beside me, I could hear Kade's little, but subtle growl. Although he said no word, his jealousy still resonates. They flow in the air like a sharp blade.

‘ It's all an illusion,' I heard through the mind link.

And immediately, it felt like I stopped breathing. I was just processing the words. Immediately, I turned my head to look at him, Wilson. He had a wry smile across his face.

“ How?” I asked.

How? How could it be possible? How could it be an illusion?… At that moment, it struck my mind, I had come to this theory before. Raine was alright as I got back to the manor. The flames? It was all gone. Just like nothing had ever happened.

“It's deeper than you'd ever think,” he smiled. “ It's a conspiracy. How I wished you to realise where you truly belong.” Almost immediately, he turned leaving the palace in his wolf form.

I stared at the door, my mind racing with multiple questions, but no matter what, I could only process one thing in my mindーWhatever happened was a conspiracy.

But, who could be behind all of this?

At that moment, it snapped. I raised my head, if Kade came when it all started, it would end when he's gone.
