Chapter 8

Elara's Pov Crazy thoughts filled my mind, chills scrambled down my spine. And after so many years of being strong, or trying to be strong, I now had a deep regret. I could just stare at that big old crap of metal as it took a new shape right in front of me. I wriggled, having one thought in mind, and it was to break free from these restraints, so I could go meet my babies. Tears rolled down continuously as I stared at Marcus, a wide grin tugged across his lips, he was ready to see my downfall, in fact, he was prepared for it. "This isn't right!" I screamed, " you are goddamn councils, you are supposed to be in charge of well being, not destruction!" I yelled, tears slowly making ways out of my eyes. "You know?" Marcus said, spreading his arms into the air. " It's nice to watch your good old power bank die, so you will get recharged." He added. I kept quiet for a moment. My mind began racing with multiple thoughtsーgood old power bank?ーwhat does that mean? I didn't speak, I just stared as tears beaded my face slowly. "What do you mean?" I asked finally, my voice low. Trembling with each word as they left my mouth. I could feel my back ache as the smell of copper filled my nostrils. Where was it coming from? I asked myself, my gaze pinned down on the machine in front of me. A sudden surge of pain bursted through my veins. "Ahh!" A loud guttural sound leapt out my throat. Pain. It was very visible on my face as I gritted my teeth. Marcus wasn't doing anything, but something was happening to me. Pain, my bones cracked and snapped from the inside, my stomach churned hard. My heart beating faster, and with every second, my heart beat pounded louder. "Stop... Please... Ah!!!" The pain shot through my veins, with each pulse, I could feel the life force in my body slowly reducing. Except for the brazen texture of the wood, and the soaked and moist texture from the cold water beneath my feet, I couldn't feel anything else. I could only feel a slight tingling sensation right under my nose. " Stop!" A loud voice echoed through the whole white room. Almost immediately, the door behind the machine swung open revealing the council leader, Wilson. He stood there in his aura, his gaze locked on Marcus. " I said stop!" He snapped, his voice echoed through the room one last time. “ Help me,” I cried. “ Please!” I said trying to force myself out of the restraints. Marcus turned fully to look at him before finally signaling the machine, and in one second it all stopped, I didn't feel any pain. It was as if the pain had just disappeared into the distance. Almost immediately, relief washed over me. A wave of cold wind sank into my skin. I felt it, I felt something leaving my body. It was a foreign experience, I hadn't experienced something like this ever before. This was the first time and this was more than any pain I have ever gone through. “ My lord, she is dangerous. A silver Alpha.” Marcus said, his eyes focused on the floor. “ Release her, now.” Wilson said, his voice was sharp and piercing like a blade cutting through the night. He didn't just talk, he commanded. He lived in authority. And that was one of the reasons why I would always respect his leadership in that council. “ But, my Lord.” Marcus wanted to continue but he was cut short. “ I am not your Lord, I won't hesitate to kill you if you disobey.” Wilson said, “She is not a Silver Alpha, nor any kind of rare value or enemy. That's a message from the oracle itself.” He said his voice low. Marcus' face grimaced, he turned to look at me, then back at the big guy in front of him. And slowly, he began walking towards me, his claws elongated. Before slicing the restraint, he leaned close to my ears. “ I have you in my claws, and there is nothing you can do about it.” A wry smile tugged across his lips. I felt a chill run down my spine, his words were haunting. I didn't know what he had in mind for me, but I knew one thing, whatever that was would never be good. As soon as he slit the ropes, he raised his head letting out a deep sigh. He whispered a wordーjokeーat that moment, he retracted his hands into his pocket before finally turning to leave. I could just watch as he made his way out of the room. His face filled with the unknown. It hid one thing I didn't know, one thing I will always struggle to find out. What was he trying to do? What was his plan all along? Who am I dealing with? All these questions just played like a pre-recorded tape at the back of my head. Slowly I dropped my leg from the chair, and as soon as my feet touched the floor, I felt my vision blurred. Cold electricity jolted through my veins. At the back of my eye socket I felt those tiny explosions. That thing I could not ignore. The consequence. As I tried to move my feet one more time, my vision blurred again. And this time, Luna's and Kai’s voice played in my head as I slowly fell backwards. And by the time I landed with a thud, my heartbeat filled the air, or maybe it was the only thing I heard by that time. “ Pick her up. Take her to the hospital.” That voice was low. And it was the last thing I heard before finally giving in to the dark abyss. *** My eyes fluttered open, and as soon as my vision met with the brutal beam of the white light, I quickly raised my hand, shielding my eyes from the burning light. As soon as I became familiar with the light, I quickly lowered my hand, a low groan escaped my lips as I sat up, slowly. The different, but same old looking ward reminds me of the day I gave birth to my kids. Although they were still alive and with me, I couldn't help but feel like they were not close. Their cries touched my heart, although I know fully well that they were close. So close, I could see them. The brown door flung open as the doctor came in, and behind the pack doctor, Wilson stood there, hands crossed above his chest. He had a subtle smile across his lips. I stared at him, my eyes filled with gratitude. My face lit up, water quickly formed assembly, I clapped my hands together. Almost immediately, I stood to my feet. “ I'm grateful,” I said. “ If only you knew your background,” he whispered. Although his voice was barely audible, I could see his lips move, I could hear the silent whisper. “ You're welcome.” He said. “ How is my mate? How are my kids?” I asked, taking a step further. I hadn't taken the other step when my vision blurred, so I paused swallowing the lump in my throat. I raised my head to look at the pack doctor. She knew what I needed. And immediately, she sprang into action slowly helping me back to the bed. As soon as I sat back down on the hospital soft bed, I let out a deep sigh. Not relief. Not pain. Not sure why, but one thing was certain, I was expecting. My kids, my happiness. “ Luna Lara,” Wilson breathed, taking a few steps closer to me. “ Since things became like this, I think it's better to rest at home. More importantly, the council will address the issue with your mate and give you a sharp reply on when to visit the room.” He said. “ Are my family safe?” I asked, “ they were attacked.” I said, my voice low. “ Hmm, I don't think there's something to worry about.” He sighed, and this time, he didn't make any eye contact. “ If there is… I think your recovery should be your priority.” He said before turning to leave the ward. I could just stare and watch him leave, but I had a hunch. Wilson might be lying. He never breaks eye contact while speaking to people. That's how he intimidates people. But today, for the first time in history, he broke eye contact. At that moment, his words replayed at the back of my head. If only I knew my background? That's stupid. I knew my father, I knew my mum, even how they died. There might be something deeper in what he meant. I laid down, prepared to sleep. But the door suddenly jerked open. Raine. “ Mrs Raine, you can't come in.” The doctor spoke. “ You need to come with me, Elara. It's urgent.” she said, not even acting like the pack doctor was there. Urgent? What's so urgent?
