A kingdom of shadows
---
In the heart of the kingdom, Mrs. Lucky's residence stood as a beacon of comfort and elegance. The house was adorned with beautiful sets of cushion chairs and golden settees, while a high-profile television set flickered with the latest genre of music, filling the air with a lively rhythm. Mrs. Lucky sat comfortably, engrossed in a movie, when a series of knocks interrupted her moment of leisure.
âKnock, knock, knock.â
âYes! Who's there?â she called out, her voice warm and inviting.
âMom, itâs me!â came the cheerful reply.
âCome in, dear!â Mrs. Lucky responded, a smile spreading across her face.
Sochima entered, her youthful energy lighting up the room. âHi, Mommy! Longest time!â
âHow is school?â Mrs. Lucky asked, her maternal instincts kicking in.
âSchool is nice, ma,â Sochima replied, her tone shifting to a more serious note. âBut thereâs a lot of physical abuse, emotional distress, and spiritual turmoil. The urge to belong has driven many away from their godly lives. The sense of power to control has driven many mad, and the love of money has destroyed countless lives. Mom, school is a different world; itâs up to you to choose for yourself.â
Mrs. Lucky listened intently, her heart heavy with concern. âMy dear, Iâve taught you in a very godly way. Iâve shown you many things about the world. Youâre more than enough, and I believe in you. I believe youâll choose the right path. As the saying goes, âThe surety is enough for the wise,â and I believe youâre one of the wise.â
âThank you for always believing in me, Mom,â Sochima said, her eyes shining with gratitude.
âI have good news for you,â Mrs. Lucky announced, her voice filled with excitement.
âWhatâs it, Mom? Are youâŠ?â Sochimaâs eyes widened in anticipation.
âNo, Iâm not pregnant,â Mrs. Lucky interrupted, chuckling softly.
âOhhhhh, so whatâs it then?â Sochima asked, her curiosity piqued.
âYour dadâs the kingâs new advisor,â Mrs. Lucky revealed, her pride evident.
âWOW!â Sochima exclaimed, her expression a mix of awe and concern. âThatâs such wonderful news! But I hope he doesnât want toâŠâ
Mrs. Lucky cut in, âYes, he wants revenge.â
âMom, please,â Sochima pleaded, her voice trembling. âCan you beg him to stop this revenge thing?â
âI tried talking to him, but he doesnât want to hear anything. And you know how your father can be. If I pressure him too much, Iâll become one of his enemies, and Iâm sure you wouldnât want that to happen,â Mrs. Lucky explained, her tone serious.
âWell, just try and talk to him later when heâs calm,â Sochima suggested, her brow furrowed with worry.
âI surely will,â Mrs. Lucky promised, determination in her voice.
âPlease, donât forget to send me the money you promised me,â Sochima reminded her, a hopeful smile returning to her face.
âIâll send it right away,â Mrs. Lucky assured her.
âIâm going out,â Sochima announced, her excitement bubbling over.
âDonât come back late, oh!â Mrs. Lucky called after her.
âOkay, ma! Byeee!â Sochima replied, waving as she stepped out into the world.
âBye, dear,â Mrs. Lucky whispered, her heart heavy with the weight of the news and the uncertainty of what lay ahead.
As the door closed behind Sochima, the air in the house shifted, filled with unspoken fears and the looming shadows of the kingdomâs dark secrets. Little did they know, the tides of fate were turning, and the choices they made would echo through the halls of power, forever altering their lives and the kingdom they called home.
