“Where do you think you are going with those bags?” Xander interrogated as soon as he cornered her.

“Of course, I’m leaving you!” She said, standing her ground, despite the fear in her eyes.

“Why?”

“You forgot to mention how dangerous you were.”

Xander let out a deep throaty chuckle. “Sweetheart, you didn’t ask.”

“I don’t care! I don’t want to be a part of this anymore!” She insisted.

Xander shook his head. “Too late. We are already married. You now belong to me, and divorce is out of the question.”

Aurora Swift’s world shatters when Owen—her boyfriend of five years—breaks up with her via text. The betrayal deepens when she finds out he’s also getting engaged to her half-sister, Olivia Swift on the same day.

Heartbroken and filled with rage, Aurora has a one-night stand with Xander Scott, Owen’s enigmatic uncle and the youngest billionaire in the country. When the fling leads to a marriage proposal from Xander with a promise to help her get her revenge, Aurora finds it hard to refuse.

Chapter 1: The Greatest Betrayal
Claire barely had time to react. The guards blocked her way as soon as she reached the entrance. "Good evening, ma'am. Your invitation, please." She forced herself to keep steady, but her nerves threatened to spill over. "I don't have one." "This is a private event," the taller one said. "I need to speak with someone inside." "No invitation, no entry," he answered, unmoved. Her throat tightened. She swallowed hard. "Please, you don't understand." The guards didn't budge. "My name is Claire Parker," she tried. "Natalie Parker's my sister." Saying that now made her stomach turn. Natalie, her sister. Those words felt wrong after what Claire had discovered. The shorter guard shot his colleague a look, then answered quietly, "Sorry, ma'am. Our instructions are clear." Frustration erupted inside her. "Do you know what's going on in there? The guy she's getting engaged to he's my boyfriend!" The guards didn’t even blink. They kept checking invitations, ignoring her like she was invisible. People in glittering gowns and sharp suits swept past, not a single glance in her direction. She’d never felt so small. Suddenly, the ballroom doors swung open, and out stepped a woman graceful, striking, and decked out in a sparkling gown. Diamond earrings. Perfect hair. Stella Parker. Claire’s stepmother. Beauty draped in steel. Stella spotted her, annoyance flickering across her face. "What are you doing here?" she snapped. Claire stepped forward, voice shaking. "I need to speak to Mason." Stella laughed, and not kindly. "You're too late." Her heart sank. "So... it's true?" "It certainly is." Stella’s smile was smug, almost triumphant. "My daughter is getting engaged tonight." Claire's hands curled into fists. "Did you know they were together?" "I did," Stella replied instantly. "I encouraged Natalie to take him from you." Claire stared at her. The insults, the humiliation she’d expected it. But this? This was worse. "You encouraged it?" "Of course. Mason deserves someone elegant, ambitious, worthy of him." Stella eyed Claire, dripping with contempt. "Not someone like you." Every word stung. Claire fought to stay upright. "You helped destroy my relationship." "I helped my daughter find happiness," Stella replied, smiling. "And Mason clearly agrees with me." Claire felt tears welling up, but she refused to let Stella see her cry. "You've gone too far." "No," Stella leaned in. "I corrected a mistake." She turned to the guards. "If this woman causes trouble, remove her immediately." Cold as ice, she added, "Call the police if you have to." Stella disappeared back inside, leaving Claire frozen at the door. Her chest was heavy. Hurt spilled over, threatening to break her apart. Stella had always favored Natalie, but hearing her admit she’d sabotaged her and Mason there was a new kind of pain now. Claire lowered her head quickly, blinking. Then a voice, deep and calm, interrupted her spiral. "Would you like to go inside with me?" She turned and found a man she’d never seen before, tall and broad-shouldered in an immaculate black suit. Striking blue eyes, reserved but steady. Something about him made her feel safe. She nodded, “Yes, I’d appreciate it.” He offered his arm. She didn’t take it, but she walked close. At the entrance, the younger man beside him handed over an invitation. The guards actually straightened. "Good evening, sir," they said. The stranger nodded. "She's with me." "Of course, sir." Just like that, Claire was let in. The shift in the guards’ attitude stunned her. Who was this man? Inside, she felt the attention turn toward him guests whispering, staff attentive, all eyes following as he crossed the room. He wasn’t just another guest. He carried real weight. Before she could ask his name, applause thundered from the stage. Claire’s focus swung to Mason and Natalie under the chandeliers. Mason cupped Natalie’s face, looking at her with a softness Claire had never seen then he leaned in and kissed her. Gentle. Reverent. Claire forgot to breathe. He’d never kissed her that way. With her, it had always been rushed, urgent. Passionate, sure, but never tender. A single tear slipped out. She was too late. The proposal was done. The engagement real. Nothing left to say. The couple beamed, guests cheered louder, and each toast jabbed deeper into Claire’s chest. She turned to leave, desperate to slip out unseen. But her vision blurred with tears, and she collided with a waiter carrying champagne flutes. Trays flew. Glasses crashed. Champagne splattered across gowns and marble floors. The music stopped. Silence spread. Every head turned. Now, everyone noticed Claire ; “Hey Claire. I should’ve said this before, but here it is: I just don’t see a future with you anymore. You’re holding me back. I don’t love you enough to keep doing this. Don’t call or text. I’ve moved on with someone better for me, someone who actually gets me. And congrats on your first live TV interview.” Claire stared at her phone, her heart plummeting with every word. She had just finished wiping her makeup away in the powder room, still buzzing from her first business interview. She figured now was a good time to check her messages. Definitely not what she expected. Not the moment she expected her entire reality to c***k wide open. Her eyes stung and everything went blurry. It felt like someone just stabbed her in the chest. Five years just wiped out by one text. The love, the memories, all those future plans they meant nothing now. How could Mason do this? Her hands shook as she dialed his number. Her heart was pounding out of control as she listened to it ring. Once. Voicemail. She called again. Still voicemail. Again. No luck. That’s when it hit her. Mason blocked her. Before she could even unpack what that meant, her phone started ringing. Abigail. Claire picked up right away. “Claire, I have to tell you something,” Abigail rushed. “Mason’s getting engaged to Natalie tonight! Susu just posted about it she put a congratulations on her story. Remember that influencer I told you about? She shared it with everyone.” It felt like the floor just vanished from under her feet. Engaged? Tonight? She never imagined in a million years that her boyfriend would secretly date her half-sister. Natalie had always stolen things, sure opportunities, little victories but this was a whole different level. Mason’s message suddenly made everything make sense in the worst possible way. He’d cheated. And of all the women out there, he picked Natalie her own half-sister. Worst of all, he broke up with her over text, right before his engagement party. What a bastard. Claire’s jaw locked tight. “Where are they?” she asked, grabbing her purse off the vanity. “Garden City Hotel Ballroom, downtown. But Claire, please don’t ” Claire hung up before Abigail could finish. Twenty minutes later, she pulled up to the Garden City Hotel. The place was buzzing. There was a long red carpet, security everywhere, checking names at the door. She took a deep breath and went for it. As soon as she stepped forward, both guards moved to block her path. “Why won’t you let me in?” she demanded. The guards just kept checking invitations, ignoring her completely. “Do you even know who I am? Natalie’s my sister,” she said. The words tasted awful, but if it got her through the door, she’d say it. Before she could push any further, the ballroom doors opened. Out walked a woman dripping in expensive designer clothes. Her hair was perfect, her face a little too smooth years of cosmetic tweaks, no doubt. Stella Parker. Fifty-five. Beautiful in a cold, frightening way. Never warm. Never kind. She looked Claire up and down, pure disgust on her face. “You’re not welcome here,” she said, her voice sharp as knives. “Your presence would only ruin this celebration. Go back to the slum where you belong.” Claire gritted her teeth, trying to keep it together. She’d hoped against all hope this was some horrible mistake. Instead, here was the truth Mason and Natalie were inside, celebrating, while she stood outside looking like a joke. And Stella? Stella was loving every minute. “Did you know Natalie was seeing my boyfriend?” Claire managed, her voice tight. Stella’s smile turned smug. “Of course I did. I encouraged her to take him from you.” She turned to the guards. “If this woman causes trouble, throw her out and call the police.” With that, Stella slipped back inside. Claire stood frozen. Her chest felt like it might cave in. Tears burned, but she swallowed them down. Stella had never cared for her, but this this was a new kind of cruelty. “Would you like to go inside with me?” A deep voice broke through the moment. Claire turned. There he was: tall, broad-shouldered, effortlessly handsome in a black suit. Blue eyes that seemed to see straight through her. She actually forgot how to breathe for a second. “Yes... please,” she whispered, moving beside him. “She’s with me,” the man said quietly. Another man handed the guards an invitation. Just like that, they stepped aside. No questions, no raised eyebrows. A minute ago, they’d acted like they hadn’t even seen her. Now, the doors swung open just for her. Walking through the ballroom beside this stranger, Claire couldn’t help but wonder who was this guy, and how did he command so much respect just by showing up? Suddenly, applause erupted all around. Claire’s eyes darted to the stage. Her whole world stopped. Mason. Kissing Natalie. Soft, tender the kind of kiss that says, “You’re everything.” He never kissed Claire like that. With her, he’d always been rough, impatient, always in a hurry. With Natalie, it was different. She was precious to him. A tear slid down Claire’s face. She was too late. They were already engaged nothing left to do but watch. She turned away, but just then, she bumped into a waiter carrying a pair of trays loaded with champagne. The trays slipped the crash echoed across the marble floor, glass shattering and champagne splashing everywhere. The whole room turned to stare. Every single eye was on Claire.
