MALACHAI
Amanda stared out the window. She was frozen in place. She didn’t blink. I could barely tell she was even breathing. I just took her in the shower but my mind wasn’t thinking about how nice it was to have her so close. Not when it was obvious something was still bothering her.
I looked at her piece resting on the dresser next to me. It still had the full magazine in it. I took care of Pelton but Amanda didn’t seem to happy about it.
“Is he gone?” she asked.
“He’s gone. You saw Doc and them. They know how to make a body disappear.”
“What about the evidence? We might’ve left something behind. If somebody comes looking for him—”
